BAKKK, at the Postoflice, has a very fine cigar that he calls the "Silver Spray." We have tried them, and must admit that they are superb.
A DANVILLE hotel has a hat inserted in a broken window pane, iu which is lodged a light-weight brick-bat. Truly there is a brick in that hat.
CONTRACTS will be let for gradiug part of the Cincinnati & Terre Haute R. R., by Chief Engineer N. M. McDowell, in this city, (Saturday) to-morrow.
THE entire force of the street railway company, headed by Supt. Palmater, soon cleared the beautiful snow from the track, and the cars were on time, as usual.
RAILROAD election Monday. The fate of the Terre Haute & Southwestern road will no doubt then be decided favorably to the organization and building of the road.
WE see by the Sullivan Union that Frank Delano, of this city, has purchased Reed's drug store in Sullivan, and will henceforth be a druggist and with the druggists stand.

IMPORTANT RAILROAD LEASE.—'The Louisville Courier-Journal says that "a meeting of the Jeffersonville, Madison & Indianapolis Railroad was held yesterday in this city. The lease of the Pennsylvania Central, better known as the Pan Handle, was unanimously ratified. There were 19,295 votes cast out of 20,000, the largest number ever represented in any meeting held heretofore by the stockholders. The lease of the road does not involve any change in the officers of the road, or any change on the road, as was very generally anticipated. Tha officers of the road will be continued here, and everything go on as usual. The only difference made by the change will be that the road now works in the interest of the Pan Handle. Among the prominent stockholders present we noticed Hon. R. W. Thompson, of Terre Haute R. J. Bright, Esq., of Indianapolis, and Mr. J. L. Bradley, of Edinburg. Wm. P. Shinn, General Agent of the Pensylvania Central, was also present.
IN OUR rounds of Terre Haute, a few days since, we dropped into th© offices of tbe GAZETTE, Journal and Express. Everything was rose-colored At the GAZETTK office. Edmunds, of the Journal still persists in having faith in Indiana Democracy, and Allen, of the Express, excused himself from tarrying at his sanctum, iusl having heard of an imaginary case oi 'small-pox near the building. The citizens of Terre Haute, as well as the papers, are determined to further increase the prosperity of their growing city by building another railroad.—Lunibridffc City J) ibune.
You are right about another railroad. On Monday next our citizens are going to walk up to the polls and vote $150,000 to the Southwestern, and are ready to assist any amount that will add to the prosperity of the city.
THE Spectator, of Chicago, says that one Howard, said to be a life insurance agent for some Jiuw York company, is trotted out by a Chicago paper as having drawn supplies from the relief society, there, which he turned immediately into cash. He obtained lumber wherewith to build a hypothetical house, and furniture (from one of the church societies) to make his air-castle comfortable—and then sold out and left for Indianapolis. All the blood of all the Howards cannot condone such conduct as this. But what company employs this Howard as its agent?"
ENGINEER BODSON, of the Vandalia Railroad, is using a brake on his engine, which was planned and constructed by Chas. R. Peddle, Superintendent of Motive Power and Machinery of that line. We understand that it is constructed on the air-brake principle, and is far ahead of any yet invented in that line, in all respects. We congratulate this inventive and mechanical gentleman in his ingenuity and success.
THE Indianapolis Journal of this morning says that "the argument in the bankruptcy case of the Indianapolis, Cincinnati & LaFayette Railroad vs. the Bank Lavvrenceburg was concluded yesterday afternoon, at New Albany. Judge Graham took the case under advisement, and will not render his decision for several days.

JOE. BLAKE came to this city this morning with a cutter and tantrum team. He had a lazy horse iu the lead, and declared upon his honor that an ox team with a load of wood, passed him on the road in a fair test pf speed, and that if it was not for the name of the thing he would prefer walking.
MR. S. K. MANN, representing the house of Barber & Stout, of Cincinnati, will please accept our thanks for a nice supply of tobacco. It is certainly ahead of anything we have found in the city. Katzenbach has a supply of it, and all lovers of the weed will do well to go and try the new brand. Ask for "Senate."
PERSONAL.—Mr. R. S. Tennant, of this city, and Miss Sallie Donohue, of Greencastle, formerly of this city, attended a wedding last evening.
J. P. Anderson and lady, of San Francisco, Cal., are at the Terre Haute House. Major C. O. Wood is in Cairo.
SOME of our Knights of Pythias yesterday instituted a lodge at Terre Haute, to be known as Occidental No. 18.—Indianapolis Journal.
The Occidental No. 18 enters upon its career with a flourishing membership of thirty or upwards, the officers of which lodge we gave sometime previous.
THE happiest man at the Typographical Union ball night before last was Hon. G. F. Cookerly. His benign countenance was lighted up with a smile peculiar to his Honor. His new spike-tailed coat assumed the perpendicular with great cre-lit to his tailor.
MR. WILLIAM COOKERLY wore a new plug hat to the Typographical Union ball night before last. Mr. William Cook erly didn't wear the same hat home, however and whatagitates him just now is, who did wear it.
MR. J. G. KINGSBURY, editor of the Northwestern Farmer, has gone West on a bridal tour. James has our hearty good wishes for his future happiness and success in life, as has his bride, whoever she is.
AN "Indian doctor" at Larwall, this State, looked into the muzzle of a navy revolver the other day. His glass eye fairly glistened as he lay in his coffin. Pity more Indian doctors don't do like* wise.

FROM the Journal of this morning we learn that Bob Linn, of Pittsbug, is trying to get up a small-pox scare, to keep people away from this city. We can hardly believe that "Bob" would be guilty of such a thing.
LITTLE sleighs, big sleighs, long sleighs, short sleighs, hard sleds, &c., are all out to-day, and the bells do jingle right merrily. All right, make time "while the sun doth shine," for it won't last.
