THE Southwestern Railroad Company mail three hundred copies of to-day's GAZETTE to parties living on the line of tiie road. So much for a newspaper that has enterprise.

CHANGE.—The Evansville & CrawfordsvilleRailroad changed time to-day. The train going south leaves nearly an hour later, at 6:50 A. M., and arrives fram the south at 10:04 P. M.

AVE understand the "Saturday Evening Mail" has been sold, and that Maj. Smith contemplates taking up his abode in the future, in the city of St. Louis. May success attend him.

THE Court House was crowded full of tax-payers Saturday night, about all of whom manifested lively interest in the matter of the Terre Haute & Southwestern Railroad either for or against.

WE have had neither time to write nor space to publish much local news to-day. Our lirst page contains an alrriost verbatim report of the proceedings at the Court House on Saturday night, though very hurriedly written out.

We were not aware that there had been any gas taken from that valuable publication, though we did know there was more or less gas in it.

AGRICULTURAL—ELECTION OF OFFICERS.—At a meeting of the Vigo Agricultural Society in this city Saturday afternoon, the followiug Board of Directors wore elected Corey BarbQur, Thomas Dowliug, John J. Ferrel, W. R. Hunter, Lynns Moyer, M. M. Hickcox, J. H. McMurtrie, Wm. Hall, A. B. Pegg, J. M. Sankey, Jos. Gilbert, C. C. Smock.

FROM the Brazil Miner we learn that "the drug store of Dr. McCullough has been reopened and supplied with a new stock. Messrs. D. Conover and H. A. Davis have been taken into 'the firm, Mr. Davis is from Terre Haute, and has the reputation of being one of the best chemists in the State." Mr. Davis i.s well known as having been once in the drug and once in the grocery business with his father, in this city.

PERSONAL.—Mr. Matt Honing and lady ami Russell Bement, Esq., of Evansville, spent tlie Sabba th in this city on their way East.

W. P. Harding, Esq., of the Cambridge Tribune is in the city. He is ever here attending a family reuuion.

Mrs. Joseph Nesbitt, wife of Assistant Superintendent Nesbitt, of the E.,T. H. & C. Railroad, spent the Sabbath in this city with her husband.

A. Nehf, who was elected a Justice nearly two years ago, has opened an office on Ohio street, between Third and Fourth, in the room occupied by G. F. Cookerly as a law office.

Quite a number of prominent gentlemen from Illinois and St. Louis were in the city on Saturday evening on business connected with the proposed T. H. & S. W. R. R.

C. S. Hall, late city editor of the Evansville Oaurier, now a cadet to West Point, acccompanied by his "right bower" H. P. Wheeler, gave in a call .this morning. They have just returned from the war path, against 41ie bufFalos. Alexis, General Sheridan and Spotted Tail are now monopolising the plains and the boys not being on good terms with Spotted Tails squaws they returned. Come and see us boys, when we are not so busy.

SENSIBLE.—A sensible exchange says that "politenes3in business is what stratagem is in war. It gives power to weakness it supplies great deficiencies, and overcomes the enemy with but little sacrifices of time and blood. It is invincible either in the attack or defence." We agree with our exchange in this matter most heartily. If there is nothing to be gained by common politeness in one trade, in a financial point of view, there may be in another, and certainly it is a great satisfaction to have the friends thus made.

FINE PRINTING.—From the managers of the Second Annual Reception of the Terre

Haute Typographical Union, to be held at Beach's Hall, on the Anniversary of Franklin's Birthday, the 17th inst., we are indebted for an invitation, programme and complimentary. The workmanship of ail these jobs is excellent, they being done at the GAZETTE, Mail and Express offices respectively, and reflect great credit on the workmen. The ball promises to be one of the finest affairs of the season, music being furnished by Professor Toute's splendid string band, and the supper prepared by that prince of caterers, W. A. Sheap, Esq. We expect many of our youth and fair maidens will attend and "trip the light fantastic toe."—Marshall Ilerald.

THERE is a member of a certain prominent Terre Haute church who is so scrupulously correct In his adhesion to biblical rules that in making contributions he puts his left hand in his pocket while with his right he contributes his raite to the replenishing of the coffers of the church by depositing in the contribution plate, the nickle. This for fear his left hand will know what his right gives.
