Similar sprays formed the heading to the lace on the fichu, and ornamented the wavy tresses of the coiffure. Elegant pearl jewelry completed this charming toilet, which just suited the blonde love~ liness of the wearer, bu^ would have appeared like affectation on an older person.

Leaning on the arm of the Magyar uniformed Count Schonvaloff was a tall, graceful girl, whose lovely features, lit up with excitement of the scene, drew the attention of the passers-by, also enlisted their admiration. Pen cannot do justice to the exquisite toilet, arranged with petticoat of white satin almost cov ered with flounces of rich black Chantilly lace, worn under a manteau de nour of rose-colored velvet mounted from the shoulders in a broad Watteau plait. This train was cut in one with a corsage, something In the style of a Gabrelle, the corsage dccolette and open in front, displaying a stomacher matching the petti coat, and the train sweeping off in a graceful curve. Bordering the train was a row of Chantilly lace, with a headiug of white feather trimming. Part of the evening this train waf supported by a chalctaine of white satin lace, suspended from the left side. The sleeves were of white satin, trimmed with black lace, reaching to the elbow, and almost meeting the long faintly-tinted gloves. Artistic enamel jewelry of light blue, with delicate traceries of roso color and black, set in diamonds hair a la Pompadour, slightly powdered.

A tall, distingue looking matron, resting on the arm of a gentleman in military uniform, was attired in a robe of royal purple velvet, the train skirt looped on the left by aigrette of white ostrich tips, displaying a white satin petticoat trimmed with flounces of blacfe thread lace. ThejQQrsage was a modified reine Margot, cycled with silk of the same color, open in frout over a vest of white satin, fastened with diamond buttons set in jet.

The sleeves were quite tight ornamented on the shoulder by a Marie Stuart puff stripped with white satin bands. Elegant point lace collar and cud's, and diamond jewelry. The snowwhite hair was arranged in finger-puffs at the sides, the hack hair disposed rather high aud ornamented with an aigrette of diamonds confining a barbe of exquisitely fine black lace.

A brilliant brunette looked charming in a toilette of corn-colored faille, the train skirt ornamented with two flounces of white point lace, festooned at intervals by sprays of scarlet geraniums, with brilliant green leaves. Clusters of the same flowers formed the headiug, veiled by coquilles of tulle, aud sustained the graceful loopings of the point lace overskirt. The corsage decoUette was ornamented with a sort of berthe matching the overskirt, looped on the shoulders with clusters of geraniums, the same quisite flowers ornamenting the abundant raven chevclurc. Diamond and ruby jewelry.

In exquisite taste was a toilette bavin a skirt of delicate gray faille, trimme with abroad flounce of point lace oyer black Chantilly, the heading composed of full-blown blush roses, set in coquille of black and white lace. Over this was worn a polonaise a la Pompadour, of brocade, gray grouud, with clusters aud garlands of blush roses, tempting one to commit larceny, so natural did they ap-

ty

iear. This was most artistically draped garlands of roses, intertwined with

white aud black lace The half-high corsage and demi-long sleeves were completed by frills of exquisite point lace, aud the coiffure was ornamented with natural blush roses. A bouquet of natural flowers at the left side of the corsage and handsome diamond and opal jewelry completed this lovely toilet.

Much admiration was elicited by a toilet of dtflioate green poult de soie, veiled with pufllngs and an overskirt of white tulle, gracefully draped by clusters of lilaos. 'lhe same flowers, in conjunction with puffings, formed the garniture to the fichu, and the unique sash in the back. The coiffure was disposed unusually high and ornamented with clusters of lilacs.

Among the rippling waves nf shimmering toilets that surged in from the foyer to the floor by the main entrance we canuot help mentioning the toilet of young girl not yet out of her teens, whose fresh, natural color was a relief from the rouged aud powdered faces around her. The dress was arranged with an underskirt of white foulard and an overdress of light blue poult de soie. The skirt was trimmed with two narrow piuked flouuees of blue silk headed by rows of blue ribbon velvet, the waist high and plain, with short sleeves trimmed to match the skirt. The overskirt, trimmed to match, had a plain Gabrielle front buttoned all the way down with the back arranged in a new and stylish manner. It was looped under Louis XIII bows of blue gros grain ribbon. In the set of Lancers, uext the Prince, w.u a beautiful girl, whose dress of delicato rose-colored poult de soie was trimmed with sidepleatingsof the same, oonfined by puffings of white tulle, strapped with black velvet bands, black Chantilly laoe and rose colored fringe. The skirt was along, full train, bordered with a trimming like that iu front, the double re vers at the the sides producing the eflect

FAIRY TOILETS.

The Dregses of tlie Belles of New York at the Great Ball to the Grand Duke. The ideal of elegant simplicity was realized in a toilet of white India mus Jin, garnished profusely with the most delicate Valenciennes iace, and worn by a lady in one of the boxes. The skirt garniture consisted of infinitesimal tucks alternating with narrow ruffles, edged with lace, meeting the long, full overskirt in the back, and forming a garni lure en tabiier reaching to the waist, fichu of the same material half con cealed the lovely neck and entirely covered the corsage decolletle, the ends being continued in long sashes, which, in conjunction with drooping sprays of lily of-t fie-valley, supported the graceful drapery of the tunique.

at the back proceeded a long,

full overskirt, trimmed to correspond, whioh was gracefully looped under a shorter one. in the style or a basque, completed by a handsome feu bow of gilk aud tulle set op against the corsage,

'mm

The low corsage was pointed back and front, the lower edge finished with a row of black lace, and the puffing arranged around the neck to simulate a berthe. Fullpuffed sleeves of tulle fell from underneath a plaiting of silk. Dressy coiffure, ornamented with sprays of eglantine, set off the toilet and the bewitching wearer to the best advantage.

Emerging from the ladies' room was a charming toilet, arranged with a dress of lig^t blue silk, worn under an overdress of fine white silk grenadine, The skirt of the dress was bordered with a deep box-plaited flounce, gradually deepening towards the front forming a deep garniture across the apron. The heading was composed of a puffing of grenadine confined by straps of blue silk, surmounted by a standing row of white blonde. The lower overskirt was long and full, apron front and looped high on the sides. Over.tbis was a shorter one, looped in the middle of the back, aud extending only from the sides. A broad sash of gros grain ribbon was fastened on the left shoulder, and was carried across to the right side, and there tied in a full bow, with ends below the waist. The corsage was decollected, aud the sleeves short and puffed.

A rich black velvet robe over a ciel blue flounced overskirt, with artistically arranged floral ornaments, powdered coiffure, priceless neckless of diamonds and a small Princesse fan, with mother of pearl stick and a ciel blue mounting, set off the charms of a matronly blonde who promenaded the boxes leaning on the arm of a bespangled general of militia.

upon the pit of the stomach of a child, will cause the bowels to be emptied and alloes kept in contact with a raw surface will produce same effect as if the medicine had been taken Into the stomach. So said the great Dr, Clntterback. Very many persons know the operation of croton oil when placed upon the tongue, to say the least, it is speedy. Purgatives in some sha e, are indispensable in the practice of medicine. Many diseases are in curable without them and all of the simple disorders of the system are benefitted by their use. The great desideratum in their administra tlon has been to get one which has either laxa tive or purgative, as was needed—always mild but always efficient^-and the use of which did not make it necessary to continue its use. This hasat last been done. Edwasd Wildeb's Fam ily Pills fulfill all the requirements of the case. They area laxative, yet sure purgative yet mild. In small doses, they meet the first want: in large doses, they fulfill the latter but in whatever quantity given, they create no necessity for they create no morbid state of the alimentary canal tube, butleave it cleansed and urge it to renewed health. They are, in brief, a blessing to the individual who suffers from constipation and needs a laxative, and are indispensable to him who is parched wltn fever and requires a purgative. Use them, all you who value health.

Helminthology.

A distinguished physiologist has declared that it seems to be a principle of nature that every situation capable of supporting organic bodies should be peopled with them. The huge whalcis o/ten driven tomadessbyan almost invisible member of the tribe of vermes. The historv of Helmintliology abounds in illustrations of the influence of worms In the production of disease and in the exasperation of their symptoms The frequency of worms in the bodies of men their obviousness to the senses, together with their common connection with enfeebled and morbid states ol the animal economy, all tend to render them an object of interest from the remotest periods. The very ablest minds have been devoted to the study of these entoza with the view of discovering some substance which was capable of speed%, safely and permanently expelling them irom the human sytem. EdWAED WlLDER'S MOTHER'S WORM SYRUP is a true vermicide, a geunine worm destroyer, a bona fide vermifuge. Its taste is delightful, its effects are quick, its results unfailing. It is free from danger. No intestinal worm can live in itspresense. Mothers! destroy the worms which infest your little ones, with this deiightfu syrup.

Dr. Laennec.

This renowned Frenchman did more perhaps to clear up the mysteries which before his time had invested the nature of chest diseases than any other physician who ever lived. Yet with all his skill in detecting the nature and form ol the malady before him, he was sadly deficient in his knowledge of remedies. He drew vivid pictures of coughs, colds, pleurisy, consumption, croup, bronchitis, catarrhs and all the affections of the air passages still he left but few words concerning their treatment. The youn, est physician to-day knows better how to manage any one of these chest troubles he knows the value of the wild cherry he is acquainted with its supreme virtues he is aware of the many potent agents which enter into the combination of Edward Wilder-s Compound Extract of Wild Cherry, and knows that with the use ol this truly great medicine lie is fully master ol the situation. He has no fear in the presence ol croup, no misgivings at the advance of bronchitis he grapples wtth consumption, and subdues evetfy cougb, cold, orcntarrh. Hence every family should always have this invaluabl medicine at hand.

Indigestion,

Which makes sleep a pain, and turns its balm to wormwood," is, we all know, the most, common of all the disorders of the stomach. It is also the most obstinate. It has been the most written about. No disease presents such various, contrary, and incompatible symptoms. They contradict all the laws of order, constancy and inconsistency wliich regulate hatural events they bother the doctor, and can only be read by him who skilled In the book of nature. It is self evident tha the different forms of indigestion are to be met by corresponding methods of cure, has been said that the perfection of medical skill is the talent of applying to each Individ ual case it? precise and as It were, its individual cure. This is the object which every consclen tious physician pursues unceasingly, and never can rest satisfied until he has overtaken. Edward Wilder'a Stomach Bitters, their body being the purest of copper-distilled whisky, makes this object attainable alike to all. They are specific—the disease specifying the remedy, not the remedy the disease. They are a combine tion of substances which meet the speciality ol the disorder by a corresponding speciality ol cure. They should be kept every well-regu lated family they are indispensable to health

Gaudianna River-

The British army when it advancea on Talavara and fought the celebrated battle, which was followed by a retreat into the plains, lost more men by the malarial diseases contracted on the banks of the Gaudiana than by the bullets of the enemy. They died by thousands All Europe believed that the imading army was extirpated. Yet malaria diseases are no more common in Europe, than In our own country they exist throughout the length iam breadth of our land—everywhere at some time and in some shape are we made to feel the sick' ening influence of miasm. The three grept actors in this equation of disease are solar heat, moisture, and vegetable decomposition. The tiio, if separated, are harmless together they are more potent for evil than any other known agents so long as they exist, just so long will we have need of a medicine which will overcome their pernicious effects, so long will it be necessary to have a remedy capable of meeting and beating the insidious enemy. Of all known agents for this purpose, none is to compare with Edward Wilder'* Chill Tonic, the master of every form aud variety and grade and degrfee of malarial disease and of miasmatic poison. Try it, all you who are suffering from any form of ague and fever or chills and fever, as a cure is guaranteed Id every case.

St. Louis Hospital, Paris.

This ancient instiitntion is one ol the largest, and to the medical student, the most interesting of the many public charities which adorn the gay capitol of the French. It receives within its walls annually thousands of sick poor. A considerable portion of the bnilding is set apart, tar patieuts suffering with diseases ol the skin, and every patient, old or yonng, is taking potash in some shape, and Honduras sarsaparilla in some form. They were esteemed by the renowned physicians who had charge ot the skin department as well-specific in almost every variety of cutaneous disease, whether of rheumatic or scrofulous or simple origin." They were given in tetter, ringworm, nettle-ash, roseash, pimples, scrofula, nlcers, old sores, falling of the hair, etc. In all they did good, in most they effected a cure. But it has remained for Edtcard Wilder'* SanapariUa and Potash to perform the most remarkable cures awarded to any known medicine. It poflBeases virtues shared by no other combination of these substances. It is a therapeutic marvel. Against all the disease at which it is aimed it is simply resistless it never fails.
