The Situation.

It is with mortified feelings of disappointment, that we are forced from the evidences that reach us from all quarters, through various channels and from the most authentic sources, to admit all hope-s of peace have vanished, aud the blessings which we so hopefully announced as certain to flow from the peace and lawful authority secured by the re-election of President Juarez, are deferred to another and uncertain day. Never at any period since the restoration of the Liberal party, has the situation looked so much like revolution

We most reluctantly yield up all our confidence and hope and admit that the country is "in the midst of revolution." The defiant attitude of the State of Oaxaca and the "masterly activity" of the Diaz Brothers, has lighted up the fires of revolution, encouraged and given confidence to the movement, in hundreds of localities. The important proclama tious of Guerra, Borrego and Cadena, the numerous risings of parties in so many localities the important disaffections in the regular army the sudden transfer of the allegiance of officers of rank, and considerable organizations of the army, from the General Government to the revolutionary cause, are facts that force us to acknowledge much against our wishes, that the country is in revolution throughout the length and breadth of the land. There teems to pervade the public mind, with few exceptions as to party, that the country is undergoing a revolution many think that its success will be unaccompanied by mucn bloodshed or many pitched buttles, that before Christmas the party uovv in power will gracefully withdraw from the Capital and the revolutionary party will be installed without much derangement of the wheels of government or disorders in the country. If we are to have a change—a revolution, we hope those predictions may prove true but we have little hope in so happy a change by an armed movement.

It is becoming a general belief that Diaz will not move from this fastness in Ouxaca until the revolution is sufficiently ripe, and when the general government can hope for no succor from the States, he will march without hindrance or obstruction, direct upon the Capital, while the personal of the administration will gracefully surrender what is left of the sivord of State aud the keys of the empty Treasury. So confident do revovolutionists talk in every street and every circle of the Capital and such is their impunity, that even many of the best friends at letwt, of those who were most vociferous in ther support of the reelection are becoming impressed. And here offers a favorable opportunity of observing certain peculiar phrases of human nature—not mere Mexican, but a peculiarity of the species. Judging from the present indications that if the revolution should succeed, one half the population will go out of the city to meet Gen. Diaz, while the other half will hail him as their deliverer. If on the contrary, the movement fails, the President will be over-whelmned with an army of visitors, congratulating him upon the "triumph of the Government."

In connection with this feature, we must observe, the almost absolute silence of

"friends,V

no assurances seem

to be reaching the President, of faithful adherance to the cause of the Government no offers of volunteers, troops, money or other patriotic manifestations flow in upon the beleagured but firm Benito Juarez. All outsiders appear to have left him in the hour of his greatest need, in the care and good keeping of his immediate clique and whom we consider the most unreliable "friends" that he can have: and nearly ail of them desert him in his most trying moments.

We consider the orisis as on hand, and that no patching up policy oan change the result. Were the entire Cabinet to be removed to-morrow, and the vacant seats offered to the Lardo and Diaz leaders, the result would not be different. Even "ample faculties" cannot save the situation. The revolution is evidently matured, has gathered all its strength aud the issue is made. If the government is 'stroug it can put down the revolution without the aid of "ample faculties," if the revolution is strongest, it will crush the government,

is strongest, it win crusu tnegovernment, ample faculties and all. That we are in a revolution there can be no doubt, what will be the result we have not even a conjecture to offer. We are assured by the revolutionists and their sympathizers, for it appears all outside the official ring are either one or the other, that this revolution "will not disturb the equilibrium of commerce, weaken confidence or effect the industries of the couutryv" and that "it will soon be over." That the crisis will soon be over is our fervent prayer.

RUMORS come from Washington that the President, desirous of healing all breaches in view of the approaching campaign, will use hi? influence to have Senator Stunner reinstated as Chairman of the Committee of Foreign Aftairs, from which he was deposed in such a humiliating manner on account of his opposition to the San Domiugo swindle. No doubt every effort will be made to appease the malconteuts, aud we would not be surprised to see overtures made to Schurz to again enter aud enjoy the party fellow* ship. Some of the more rampant partisans are in favor of excluding him from the party, a step that would be very foolish fu a political point of view. Senator Schurz is one of the ablest men in the country, and one among the few Sena tors who can justly claim the appellation of statesman. He does not approve of the acts of the Republican party, and in that he is the exponent of thousands of our best citizeus. But, like them, he is unflinchingly opposed to the Democratic party aud its principles, and is neither likely to ioin it or afford it much mfort. To drive him out of the Repu lic:m party is to put a gag upon free thought aud speech, to take away from a man his right to think as he pleases, and to strike a real blow at liberty. If there is to be no criticism upon the acts of a party except that which Comes from its foes, ita vigor will soon be sapped and its usefulness destroyed. One of the greatest benefits to the Republican party has been the independence of many of its member, who would not justify or aid a bad act merely becat 8 It seemed party policy to do so. It is from these men that its greatest strength and success has com--, and upon them its future existence depends. Tlie. discontouts and disaffection* that sow*

agitate it have been caused by the efforts to introduce military obedience as to its ranks, and to compel every member to support its measures upon penalty of being driven out of it and becoming political Ishmaelitec.—Indianapolis News.

THE New York Tribune says Chicago has reminded us of the costliness of importing goods through New York. Bring fruit from the Mediterranean to Chicago by way of Portland is a novelty which is not pleasant to behold. But Chicago knows that the iron grasp of monopoly is on the throat of New York commenrce, and so long as we have opppressive port charges and other highwaymen's exactions to depress trade, we may expect the natural consequences.

TD upon the pit of the stomach of a child, will cause the bowels to be emptied, and alloes kept in contact with a raw surface will produce same effect as if the medicine had been taken into the stomach. So said the great Dr. Clutterback. Very many persons know the operation of croton oil when placed upon the tongue, to say the least, It is speedy. Purgatives in some sha^ e, are indispensable in the practice of medicine. Many diseases are in curable without them and Jill of the simple disorders of the system are benefitted by their use. The great desideratum in their administra tion has been to get one which has either laxa

tive or

purgative, as was needed—always mild but always eflicient—and the use of which did not make it necessary to continue its use. This hasat last been done. EDWARD WILDEB'S FAMILY PILLS fulfill all the requirements of the case. They area laxative, yet sure purgative, yet mild. In small doses, they meet the first want in large doses, they fulfill the latter but in whatever quantity given, they create no necessity for they create no morbid state of the alimentary canal tube, butleave it cleansed and urge it to renewed health. They are, in

brief,

a blessing to the individual who suffers from constipation and needs a laxative, and are indispensable to him who is parched with fever and requires a purgative. Use them, all you who value health.

Hclininthology.

A distinguished physiologist hasdeclared that it seems to be a principle of nature that every situation capable of supporting organic bodies should be peopled with them. The huge whale is often driven to madess by an almost invisible member of the tribe of vermes. The historv of Helminthology abounds in illustrations of the Influence of worms in the production of disease and in the exasperation of their symptoms, The frequency of worms in the bodies of men their obviousness to the senses, together with their common connection with enfeebled and morbid states ot the animal economy, all tend to render them an object of intqpest from the remotest periods. The very ablest minds have been devoted to tlieatudy of these entoza with the view of discovering some substance which was capable of speedily, safely and permanently expelling them irom the human sytem. EDWARD WILDER'S MOTHER'S "WORM SYRUP is a true vermicide, a geunine worm destroyer, a bona fide vermifuge. Its taste is delightful, its effects are quick, its results unfailing. It is free from danger. No intestinal worm can live in its presense. Mothers! destroy the worms which infest your little ones, with this deiightfu syrup.

Dr. Laennec.

This renowned Frenchman did more perhaps to clear up the mysteries which before his time had invested the nature of chest diseases than any other physician who ever lived. Yet with all his skill in detecting the nature and form ol the malady before bim, he was sadly deficient in his knowledge of remedies. He drew vivid pictures of coughs, colds, pleurisy, consumption, croup, bronchitis, catarrhs and all the affections of the air passages still he left but few words concerning their treatment. The youngest physician to-day knows better how to manage any one of these chest troubles he knows the value of the wild cherry he is acquainted with its supreme virtues he is aware of the many potent agents which enter into the combination of Edward Wilder-s Compound Extract of Wild Cherry, and knows that with the use oi this truly great medicine he is fully master oi the situation. He has no fear in the presence ol croup, no misgivings at the advance of bronchitis he grapples wtth consumption, and subdues every cough, cold, or catarrh. Hence every family should always have this invaluabl medicine at hand.

Indigestion,

.'Which makes sleep a pain, and turns its balm to wormwood, is, we all know, the most, common of all the disorders of the stomach. It is also the most obstinate. It has been the most written about No disease presents such various, contrary, and incompatible symptoms. They contradict all the laws of order, constancy and inconsistency which regulate natural events they bother the doctor, and can only be read by him who is sallied in the book of nature. It is self evident tha the different forms of indigestion are to be met by corresponding methods of cur#. It has bee* said that the perfection of medical skill is the talent of applying to each individual case its precise and as it were, its individual cure. This is the object which every conscientious physician pursues unceasingly, and never can rest satisfied until he has overtaken. Edward Wilder's Stomach Bitters, their body being the purest of copper-distilled whisky, makes this object attainable alike to all. They area 8pe9iflc—the disease specifying the remedy, not the remedy the disease. They are a com bin a tion of substances which meet the speciality ol the disorder by a corresponding speciality ol cure. They should be kept in every well-regu-lated family they are indispensable to health

Gaudianna River-

The British army when it advanced on Talavara and fought the celebrated battle, which was followed by a retreat into the plains, lo6t more men by the malarial diseases contracted on the banks of the Gandiana than by the bullets of the enemy. They died by thousands All Europe believed that the invading army was extirpated. Yet malaria diseases are no more common in Europe than in our own country they exist throughout the length and breadth of our land—everywhere at some time and income shape are we made to feel the sick ening influence of miasm. The three grept actors in this equation of disease are solar heat, moisture, and vegetable decomposition. The tiio, if separated, are harmless together they are more potent for evil than any other known agents so long as they exist, just so long will we have need of a medicine which will overcome their periiicious effects, so long will it be necessary to have a remedy capable of meeting and beating the insidious enemy. Of all known agents for this purpose, none is to compare with Edward Wilder's Chill Tonic, the master of every form aud variety and grade and degree of malarial disease and of miasmatic poison. Try it, all yon who are suffering from any form of ague and fever or chills and fever, as a cure is guaranteed in every case.

St. Louis Hospital, Paris.

This ancient Insttitntion is one ol the largest, and to the medical student, the most interesting of the many public charities which adorn the gay capitol .of the French. It receives within Its walls annually thousands of sick poor. A considerable portion of the building Is set apart tor patients suffering with diseases of the skin, and every patfent, old or young, is

taking

potash in some shape, and Honduras sarsaparilla in some form. They were esteemed by the renowned physicians who had charge ot the skin department as well-specific in almost every variety of cutaneous disease, whether of rheumatic orscrofUlous or simple origin. They were given in tetter, ringworm, nettle-ash, roseash, pimples, scrofuia, ulcers, old sores, falling ot the hair, etc. In all they did good, in most they effected a cure. But it has remained for Edward Wilder's Sarsaparilla and Potash to perform the most remarkable cures awarded to any known medicine. It possesses virtues shared by ne other combination of these substances. It is a therapeutic marvel. Against all the disease at which it is aimed It is simply resistless it never fails. See to it that you suffer notoae day longer with any of the ills which it cures. Getitatonoe.
