Fiomth ew rk Commercial Advertiser. An Imagined Party. NEW IDEA—PLAYING PARTY. 8ome of the youug ladies are seriously di.scu.sHing anew idea of going through the ceremony of going to parties without being compelled to submit to its most "bori-h" features. It only takes two young ladies to carry out the idea with the aid of a little tobacco smoke from cousin Tom.

GETTING READY FOR THE PARTY The idea to spend the usual two days previous to the imagined party with the dressmaker—that is, be squeezed and laced and live upstairs during that time, in figured morniug wrappers,—seeing nobody but mother, the chambermaid, and bell-boy.

DRESSING.

On the afternoon of the party (in imagination) the hair dresser comes with hot irons and dresses the young lady's iiair. She pulls* it, sinnes it, burns her forehead, making her feel dry and uncomfortable. Then comes the powdering and dressing, which commences at five and ends at nine.

ALL READY.

The young lady now flops into a chair, tears two pair of gloves, frets, scolds her sister, and has hysterics because Charley don't come.

Alas! Charley is only a poor clerk oa $1,800 a year, and how can he afford a carriage? So Charley is taken sick (in imagination).

BRILLIANT GATHERING.

Now the young ladies having finished their toilets, come down stairs. They stand in the hall a moment, then promenade through the parlors. Then they go into the back hall and the black boy dips out some ice-cold lemonade. Then they stand around in corners—step on each oiher'stoes, tear off a flounce or two— tread on each other's toes some more— and then (in imagination) go down to supper.

REFRESHMENTS.

Beintr a little late they only find a place to stand in one corner of the hall. Then yotuiij lady closes her eyes and imagines this scene: Charley hands stewed oysters over people's heads, Old Thompson drops boned turkey on her dress, and a clumsy literary man spills ice-cream on her low-neck dress.

Oh (wakes up.) Closes her eyes again and imagines. Takes salad in one and, glass champagne in the other, and holds up her dress with herelbow.s? Dress falls and nife oily salad slumps down or. green silk Stands on one foot a litte while, then on the other. Drinks part of a glass of champagne, an Charley pours the rest on the dress in the corner. Poke each other in the ribs, tread on each other's toes some more, and then squeeze through oysters aud ice-cream plates to stairway. Champagne cork flies and breaks her eye-^lass—clack fizz

Wakes up aud goes up stairs. DANCING. Sister squeezes her hands till they are red, then holds brother Charley's greasy crushed hat against the back of her dress. Tears her dress some more, and jams acainst sister. Now embrace with arms around the waist (a /a round dances), and stand over the hot register till in a glow of perspiration—then go on the stairs in a draft. Wind feels good on her neck. Sister sits on her dress on the stairs in front aud makes silly speeches about Fred Hart and Lizzie Smith. Sister squeezes her hand on the sly.

END.

Now goes up stairs. Gets brother John the puff tobacoo smoke in the hall like Brown's boys. Brother John also says: "My dearth' Gov'nor's champ's d—d good—hie—ain't't?"

Goes outano stands on the balcony In the cold, waiting (in imagination) for carriage. Comes back, goes up stairs, tired and fagged out. Head aches, bad cold, hungry, bad dream*.

NEXT MORNING.

Eyes red, headaches, hair burnt, dress ruined, gloves soiled, heel ofFkid boot. OI»l dear!!

Now what an improvement on the old way of t'oing to a party Just as well to have your fun, in imagination, at home, and save carriage hire! Isn't it?

ELI. PERKINS.

Tragedy ami Comedy Together.

Mrs. Funny Kemble gives an amusing account of a performance of thelastscene of Iiomeo aud Juliet not as it seemed to the audience, but as it really was, with the whispered communications of the actors. Romeo, at the words, "Quick! let me snatoh thee to thy Romeo's arms," pounced upon his playfellow, plucked her up in his arras "like an uncomfortable bundle," and staggered dov/n the sta«e with her. Juliet whispers, "Oh," you've got me up horribly! That'll never do let me down." But Romeo proceeds from the acting version of the play, be it understood: There, breathe a vital spirit on thy lips, And call thee back, my soul, to life and love! Juliet continues to whisper: "Pray, put me down you'll throw me down if you dou't set me cn the grouud directly." In the midst of "cruel, cursed fate," his dagger tell out of his dress. I embraced him tenderly, crammed it back again, because knew I should want it at the end. The performance then wetft on.

Romeo—Tear uot my heart-strings thus!

They break! they crack! Juliet! Juliet! (Die*.)

Juliet (to corpse)—Am I smothering y»u Corpse— Not at all. But could you, do you think, be so kind as to put my wig on«gaiu forme? It has fallen off.

Juliet (to corpse)—I'm afraid I cair't but I'll throw my muslin vail over it. You've broken the vial, haven't you. (Corpse nodded.)

Juliet (to corpse)—Where's your dagger? Corpse (to Juliet)—'Pon my soul, I don't know.

Gaudianna Eiyer»

The British army when it advanced on Talavara and fought the celebrated battle, which was followed by a retreat into the plains, lost more men by the malarial diseases contracted on the banks of the Gaudifina than by the bullets of the enemy. They died by thousands All Europe believed that the Intadinp army was extirpated. Yet malaria diseases are no more common In Europe than in oui own is a breadth of our land—everywhere at some time and in some shape are we made to feel the sickaning Influence of miasm. The three grept actors in this equation of disease are solar beat, moisture, and vegetable decomposition. The tiio, if separated, are harmless together they are more potent for evil than any other known agents so long as they exist, Just so long will

St. Louis Hospital, Paris*

This ancient lnstiitution is one ol the largest, and to the medical student, the most Interesting of the many public charities which adorn the gay capitol of the French. It receives within Its walls annually thousands of sick poor. A considerable portion of the building is set apart tor patients suffering with diseases of the skin, and every patient, old or young, is tttking potash in some shape, and Honduras sarsaparilla In some form. They were esteemed by the renowned physicians who had charge of the skin department as well-specific In almost every variety of cutaneous disease, whether of rheumatic or scrofulous or simple origin. They were given in tetter, ringworm, nettle-ash, roseash, pimples, scrofula, ulcers, old sores, falling ot the hair, etc. In all they did good, In in ost they effected a cure. But it has remained for Edward Wilder1* Sarsaparilla and Potash to perform the most remarkable cures awarded to any known medicine. It possesses virtues shared by no other combination of these snbstances. It is a therapeutic marvel. Against all the disease at which It is aimed it Is simply resistless it never falls. See to it that yon suffer not one day longer with any of the ills which it cures. Get it at once.^ -j -v.

MEDICAL.

A Cataplasm of Khubarh.

upon the pit of the stomach of a child, will cause the bowels to be emptied, and alloes kept in contact with a raw surface will produce same effect as if the medicine had been taken into the stomach. So said th# great Dr. Clutterback. Very many persons know the operation of croton oil when placed upon the tongue, to say the least, it is speedy. Purgatives i-n some sha e, are indispensable in the practice of medicine. Many diseases are incurable without them and all of the simple ciissoMers of the system are benefitted by their use. The great desideratum in their administration has been to get one which has either laxative or purgative, as was needed—always mild but always efficient—and the use of which did not make it necessary to continue its use. This hasat last been done. EDWARD WILDKK'S FAMILY PILLS fulfill all the requirements of fln case. They area laxative, yet sure purgative, yet mild. In small doses, they meet the first want in large doses, they fulfill the latter, but In whatever quantity given, they create no necessity for they create no morbid state of the alimentary canal tube, but leave it cleansed and urge it to renewed health. They are, in

a blessing fo the individual who suffers from constipation and needs a laxative, and are indispensable to him who is parched with fever and requires a purgative. Use them, all you who value health.

Helmintliology.

A distinguished physiologist has declared that It seems to be a principle of nature that every situation capable of supporting organic bodies should be peopled with them. The huge whale is often driven to madess by an almost invisible member of the tribe of vermes. The hlstorv of Helmintliology abounds in illustrations of the influence of worms in the production of disease and In the exasperation of their symptoms.

The

frequency of worms in the bodies of men their obviousness to the senses, together with their common connection with enfeebled and morbid states ot the animal economy, all tend to render them au object of interest from the remotest periods. The very ablest minds have been devoted to the study of these entoza with the view of discovering some substance which was capable of speedily, safely and permanently expelling them trom the human sytem. EDWARD WILDER'S MOTHER'S WORM SYRUP is a true vermicide, a geunine worm destroyer, a bona fide vermifuge. Its-taste is delightful, its effects are quick, Its results unfailing. It is free from danger. No Intestinal worm can live in its presense. Mothers! destroy the worms which infest your little ones, with this delightful syrup.::

Dr. Laennec.

This renowned Frenchman did more perhaps to clear up the mysteries which before his time had invested the nature of chest disi."«es than any other physician who ever lived. Yet with all his skill iu detecting the nature and form of. the malady before bim, he was sadly deficient in his knowledge of remedies. He drew vivid pictures of coughs, colds, pleurisy, consumption, croup, bronchitis, catarrhs and all the affectiousof the air passages: still he left but few words concerning their treatment. The youngest physician to-day knows better how to manage any one of these chest troubles he knows: the value of the wild cherry he Is acquainted, with its supreme virtues he is aware of the many potent agents which enter into the combination of Edward Wilder* Compound Extract of Wild Cherry, and knows that with the use ol this truly great medicine he is fully master ol the situation. He has no fear in the presence ot croup, no misgivings at the advance of bronchitis he grapples tth consumption, and subdues every cough, cold, or catarrh. Hence every family should always have this invaluabl medicine at hand.

Indigestion,

'Which makes sleep a pain, and turnB Its balm to wormwood/' Is, we all know, the most, common of all the,, disorders of the stomach. It Is also the most obstinate. It has been the most written about. No disease presents such various, contrary, and incompatible symptoms. They contradict all the laws of order, constancy and inconsistency, which regulate natural events they bother the doctor, and can only be read by him who is seined in the book of nature. It is self evident tha the different forms of indigestion are to be met by corresponding methods of cure. It., has been said that the perfection of medical skill isthe talent of applying to each Individ-J ual case its precise and as It were, its indl *idual cure. This Is the object which every conscientious physician pursues unceasingly, and never can rest satisfied until he has overtaken. Ed*. ward Wilder's Stomach Bitters, their body being^ the purest of copper-distilled whisky, makesy this object attainable alike to all. They area

specific—the

disease specifying the remedy, not

the remedy the disease. They are a combination of substances which meet the speciality of the disorder by a corresponding speciality ol cure. They should be kept in every well-regu-lated family they are indispensable to health.
