Once UDonan evening bleery, While Isat me dr-amfng, dreary, In the sunshine, thinking o'er
Things that passfKl in days yore, While I nodded, nearly sleeping, Gently came ii something creeping,
Creeping upward from the floor 'Tirt a cooling breeze," I muttered. From the regions 'neath the floor Only tills and nothing more.
Ah distinctly I remember, ft was in the wetHeptember, When the ea th and every member
Of creation that I bore, Had for weeks and months been soaking In the meanest, most provokiug Foggy, rain that, without jo*lug,
With the breeze from 'neath the floor, Till I felt me growing colder, And the stretching waxlnw colder, And myself now reeling older,
Oder than I lelt before— Feeli that my Joint* were stifTer Than tMey were In days of yore— Stilfer than they'd oeeu before.
All along mv hack the creeping Saon gore place to rushing, leaping, As if countless f-ozeri demons
Had concluded to explore All the cavities—the varmints— Twlxt me and ray nether garments,
Through my boots Into tne floor Then I found myself a shaking— Gently shaking more and more,
Every moment more and more. 'Twas the ague, and it shook me Into heavy clothes, and took me Shaking to the kitchen—every,
Every place there was warmth in store, Shaking till I he China rattled Shaking till my molars rattled Shaking, and with all mv warding,
Feeling colder than before: Shaking till I had exhausted All Its powers to shake tne moreTill it could not BhaUe me more.
Then It rested till the morrow, When it came with all the horror That It had the face to borrow,
Shaking, shaking as before. And trom that day in SeptemberDay which I shall long remember— It has made diurnal visits,
Shaking, shading, oh how sore! Shaking off my boots, an I shaking Me to bed If nothing more,
Fully this, if nothing more.
And to-day, the shadows flitting Round my aottage, see me sitting io llly within the sunshine
Just inside my silent door, Waiting for the ague seeming Like a m-in forever dreaming And the sunlight on me streaming
Sheds no shadow on the floor, Fori am too thin and shallow To make shadows on the floor,
Narry shadow—any more.
From the Ziinesvllle Courier, Oct. 18. A TERKIBLE SCENE.
K. Desolate Hnsbanil shoots Himself at the Deftlh-Bed of His Wife. Tlie citizens of this community were greatly shocked at an early hour yesterday evening by the intelligence of the death of Charles H. Durban and wife, which has taken place at the residence of Judge Evans, in the Sixth Ward, under the mo-it sad and painful circumstances—the one dying from the effect of a pistol ball in the head, fired by his own hand, while the wife lay dying in the same room of a lingering disease, consumption, and expired ten minutes after her husband had gone iuto eternity.
Mr. Charles H. Durban, son of our well-known citizen, Thomas Durban, Esq., a young man about twenty-three years of age, a practising attorney, office in the Atheueum building, was married last spring to Miss Lucy Seaman. After marriage, owing to the failing health of Mrs. Durban, they resided at Judge Evans'. The disease with which she was afflicted was that of consumption of the lungs. Mr. Durban from the testimony of all, was the most devoted of husbands, kind, geuerousand noble-hearted of sons. Dr. Rail was the attending physiciau of Mrs. Durban during her Illness. She continued to grow worse, aud as the pro»pect of her recovery faded away, Mr. Durban grew sad and gloomy. Dr. Ball visited Mrs. Durban yesterday morning, aud found that she could -not long survive, a few days at the most. In the evening he was sent for again, aud arrived at the bedside of the sufferer ten minutes bfefore six o'clock. Mrs. Durban wished to take some medicine, morphine and ohloro* form, prescribed by the doctor when she was restless and could not sleep. Her husband asked the doctor about giving it, expressing himself as if fearing the desire foi the sedative might increase. The doctor requested him to give her the medicine, which he did, nt the same time seeming very nervous and excited. He walked partially around the room with' his hands 4tt his pockets, and finally stopped at the foot of the bed. The remedy aid not seen) to produce fellef. She was theu breathing very hard. The doctor then gave her some valerate of ammouia, Mr. Durban still standing at the foot of the bed, and seemed to be suffering intensely. He said to th» physioian '•D rotor. for God's sake can't you j?ive Lucy (his wife's name) something to rtelieve her The doctor told him to wait, that the remedy had not had time to act. As the difficulty of breathing seemed to increase, the doctor told Mr. Durban to bring pome unslacked lime, that she might, inhale it while it slacked. He did so, and attempted to hold it to herf face, but seemed to be unable from nervousness. She then took a severe fit of "coughing, when thedoctor took his place and Mr. Durban passed to the foot or the bed, saying, as he did so, "Doctor, can't you do anything mqrg for her, she is dying t" The doctor found that she would suffocate unless her position in the bed was changed, and with the assistance of her mother and
Mrs. Evans was trying to change her

upon the pit of the stomach of a child, will cause the bowels to be emptied, and alloes kept in contact with a raw surface will produce same effect aa if tha medicine had been taken into the stomach. So said the great Dr. Clutterback. Very many persons know the operation of croton oil when placed upon the tongue, to say the least, it is speedy. Purgatives in some sha. e, are indispensable in the practice of medicine. Many diseases are incurable without them and all of the simple disorders of the system are benefitted by their use. The great desideratum in their administration has been to get one which has either laxativeor purgative, as was needed—always mild but always efficient—and the use of- which did not make it necessary to continue its use. This' hasat hist been done. EDWARD WIUMSK'S FAM-

The superiority of these Bars ovem ers is owing to the distribution of the metal in such a man. uer that all strain in consequence of expanflon from heat is relieved, so that they will neither warp nor break. They give, also, more air surface for draft, and are at least one-third lighter ..— -11—T»— 15 tn per cent.
pi LIS fulfill all the requirements of the case. They area laxative, yet sure purgative, yet mild. In small doses, they meet the first want in large doses, they fulfill the latter but in whatever quantity given, they create no necessity for they create no morbid state of the alimentary canal tube, but leave it cleansed and urge it to renewed health. They are, in brief, a blessing to the individual who suffers from constipation and needs a laxative, and are indispensable to him who is parched witn fever and requires a purgative. Use them, all you who value health.
Hclminthology.
A distinguished physiologist liasdeclared that It seems to be a principle of nature that every situation capable of supporting organic bodies should be peopled with them. The huge whale is often driven tomadessbyan almost invisible member of the tribe of vermes^, The historv of Helmintliology abounds in illustrations of the influence of worms in the production of disease and in the exasperation of their symptoms. The frequency of worms in the bodies of mon their obviousness to the senses, together with their common connection with enfeebled and morbid states ol the animal economy, all tend to render them an object of Interest from the

Dr. Laennec.
This renowned Frenchman did more perhaps to clear up the mysteries which before his time had invested the nature of chest diseases than
any
other physician whoever lived. Yet with all his skill in detecting the nature and form of the malady before bim, he was sadly deficient in his knowledge of remedies. He drew vivid pictures of coughs, colds, pleurisy, consumption, croup, bronchitis," catarrhs and all the affections of the air passages still he left but few words concerning their treatment. The youngest physician to-day knows better how to manage any one of these chest troubles he knows the value of the wild cherry he Is acquainted with its supreme virtues he is aware of the
potent agents which enter into the combination of Edward Wilder'4 Compound Extract of Wild Cherry, and knows that with the useoi this truly great medicine lie is fully master oi the situation. He has no fear in the presence ot croup, no misgivings at the advance of bronchitis
he
grapples wtth consumption, andsub-

Indigestion,
'Which makes sleep a pain, and turns its balm to wormwood," is, we all know, the most, common of all the disorders of the stomach. It is also the most obstinate.
It
has been the most written about,
No disease presents such various, contrary, and incompatible symptoms. They contradict all the laws of order, constancy and Inconsistency,, which regulate natural events they bother the doctor, and can only be read by him who is sallied in the book of nature. It is self evident a if re or of in on a re to be met by corresponding methods of cure. It has been said that the perfection of medical skill Is the talent of applying to each individual case its precise and as it were, its Individual cure. This is the object which every conscientious physician pursues unceasingly, and never can rest satisfied until he has overtaken. Edward Wilder's Stomach Bitters, their body being the purest of copper-distilled whisky, makes this object attainable alike to all. They area specific—the disease specifying the remedy, not the remedy the disease. They are a comtHnation of substances which meet the speciality of the disorder by a corresponding speciality ot cure. They should be kept in every well-regu-lated family they are indispensable to health.

Of all'known agents for this purpose, none is to compare With Edward Wilder's Chill Tonic, the master of every form aud variety and grade and degree of malarial disease and of miasmatic poison. St. 'Louis Hospital, Paris.
This ancient institution is one ot the largest, and to (he medical student, the most interesting of the many public charlties"whichadorn the gay capitol of the French. It receives within Its walls annually thousand^1 of sick poor. A considerable portion of the building is set apart tor patients suffering with diseases of flie skin, and -every patient, old or ymng, is toking potash in some shape, and Honduras sarsaparilla In some lorm. They were esteemed by the renowned physicians who had charge of the skin department as well-specific in almost every variety of cutaneous disease, whether of rheumatic orBcrofulous or simple origin. They were given in tetter, ringworm, nettle-ash, roseash, pimples, scrofula, ulcers, old sores, falling of the hair, etc. In all they did good, inn ost they effected a cure. But it has remained for Edward Wilder's Sarsaparilla and Potash to perforni the most remarkable cures awarded to any known medicine. It possesses virtues shared by no other combination of these substances. It is a therapeutic marvel. Against' all the disease at which it is aimed it is simply resistless it never fails. See to it that you suffer not one day longer with any of the Ills which it enres.
