Mormons and Their Wires—Brigliam' Latest Captures—A Prophet Playing the "Cnrled Darling."

George Q,. Cannon has three wives and the third of them he lias taken since the passage of the anti-poiygamic statue Furthermore, it is as commonly known as any fact is known to the community that Brigham Young has delegated Can non to "seal" the polygamic marriage in this city for the last five years. He has "seaied" thousands of women to married men during that time, ffe would be a lovely juror when a case of polygamy was before the court.

Townsend, another of the rejected, is the gruffy, stupid -old man who keeps the Townsend House, where all the religioustravelers from the East prefer to bring their wives and daughters. At home they lift up their hands in holy horror at such degredation, and would tell a Mormon to stand afar off but here they roll in the luxury of a polygamic seraglio, and enjoy it because old Townsend has fine cooling trees before his hotel. Up to a very few months he too had three wives but, fortunately for her, his "old woman" died, and now number two runs the hotel. While the old lady lived, she might be seen every forenoon carrying the pail and scrubbing brush of the chambermaid and maid of all work, passing through the coridor and from room to room, pale, emaciated and haggard, while the old boar was paying his lascivious visits to number three—a young, fiery English girl who had increased his posterity/"and in the afternoons, to keep peace in the hotel for the forenoon visits, he was to be seen driving out number two in a buggy. -Another juror who was rejected is no less than a double son-in-law of Brigham Young—his factotum and geueral scavenger. Clawson openly aud defiantly, not long ago, married his fourth wife, who is the daughter direct of Brigham Young, by one of the "proxy" wives of the deceased prophet, Joseph Smith.

Brigham, in the fullpess of his glory, was reckless. When he saw a woman who filled his e^e, it made no difference who stood in his way. For ten years he had taken no extra wife aud seemed content with the number that he had but none of his wives were accomplished. They were plain in manners, like himself, and unpretending good housekeepers and excellent mothers. When the army encamped here in 1858, and he mo^e some money by selling to them privately, while he pubJu^yuEtuJubda th~~ people to do the same thing, he began to get uplifted. Soon after, among the emigrants, came a rather old Miss Amelia Folsom, from Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was the attraction at the soeial par-ties-during the first winter, as she could sing and play the piano.

BRIGHAM FANCIED HELT.

A'yAung man here was paying attention to her. Brigham gave him a mission, and it nigh broke his heart. This Miss Folsom nad another string to her bow left iu Council Bluffs. He came on aud wanted to marry her, and she wanted him: but Brigham held her with a revelation. It had been revealed to him, that

Bhe

should marry him. A long courtship, and the foolish old man's carriage stood hours every day before Miss Folsoms door. Three different times were set for the marriage. Three times the "endowment house" was warmed up in the winter time for the ceremony, and each time she disappointed him. Finally, afraid of "the Lord's" displeasure, Miss Folsom consented.

THE OLD FOOL AS A*DANDY. Its and Blhce that time the man who vvorelfwee^enad^to fi homespun, who preached against fashions aud the vanity ot the world, has become as gaV and fashionable as his years permit. He has a barber call every morning to shave him, cprl bis hair, and perfume him up, and he wears the best aud fiuest broadcloth and while his other wives maintain their former plain attire, Amelia lias the richest silks and brocades that can be imported. With it all, she is dissatisfiedt and leads the prophet wherever she has a mind to, and snubs him -unmercifully. She makes a perfect laughing stock of

She supposed that she was to be the last and favorite wife but Brigham saw two bloomiug grass widows^ *ud ^"edf them, and, to the terrible chagrin of favorite Amelia, oneof th«m.has orought iheProphet a daughter. Of all the gossipy towns on the face of the earth, this holds the palm, and.toe f»8ip abojit young daughter is fr.ghtfuh Amehah^ circulated the most scafuffrloils stories about old age anil infirmity, and questions paternity. The other young wife is a black-eyedr quick, smart girl, that seems to care nothing for him, and enjoys herself hugely. Some of these are certain to bring trouble upon him if summoned to court, and if he is indicted they assuredly will appear in court.

THE DOOM OF THE PROPHET. "BiiP' Hickmau a notorious Danite, a vile murderer, and a dirty scoundrel, has Hivnltred to the United. SUjtes -Maushal ri^the United States District Attorney

A Brown Bear ox the Rampage.— The people ol Contocock and West Hopkinton, ojily nine miles from Concord, New Hampshire, are in a state of alarm over the appearance within ther territory of a brown and white bear, whose tracks measure eight by five inches, and whose weight is estimated at 400 pounds. He has been distinctly seen at different times by three persons. Sheep are being killed and the lives of the inhabitants of the outskirts are considered to be in danger. On Sunday, nearly a hundred armed men, divided into small parties, were scouring the woods for Bruin, and it is now thought that they have got him within a tract of territory a mile in length by less than that in breadth.

upon the pit of the stomach of a child, will cause the bowels to be emptied, and alloeskept in conf.Rct withdraw surface will produce same cftoct as If tliv mcdiclnehad been taken into the stomach. So said the greet Dr. Clutterback. Very many persons know th« operation of croton oil when placed upon, the tongue, to say the least, it is speedy. Purgatives in some sha e, are Indispensable in the practice of medicine. Many diseases are incurable without them and all of the simple disorders of the system are benefitted by their, use. Tliegreatdesideratumin their administra tion has been to get one which has either laxa tiveor purgative, as was needed—always mild but always efficient—and the use of which did not make it uecessary to continue its use. Thi hasat last Im-ti done. Ejwarb Wii.i)f.r Family Pii,i.h fulfill all the requirements of the case. They area laxative, yet sure purgative, yet mild. In small doses, they meet the first WRUt: in large doses, they fulfill the latter but in whatever quantity given, they create no ne-. cessity for they create no morbid- state of the alimentary canal tube, butleave it cleansed and urge it to renewed health. They are, in brief, a blessing to the individual who suffers from constipation and needs a laxative, and are indispensable to him who is parched with fever and requires a purgative. Use them, all you who value health.

Ilelmintliology.

A distinguished physiologist hasdeclared tha it seems to be a principle of nature that every situation capable of supporting organic bodie should be peopled with them. The huge whale is often driven to madess by an almost invisible member of the tribe of vermes. The hlstorv of Helminthology abounds in illustrations of the influence of worms in the production of disease and In the exasperation of their symptoms. The frequency of worms in the bodies of men their obviousness to the senses, together with their common connection with enfeebled and morbid states ot the animal economy, all tend to render them an object of interest from the remotest periods. The very ablest minds have been devoted to the study of these entoza with the view of discovering some substance which was capable of speedily, safely and permanently expelling them irom the human sytem. Edward Winder's Mother's Worm Syrup is a true vermicide, a geunine worm destroyer, a bona fide vermifuge. Its taste is delightful, its effects are quick, its results unfailing. It is free from danger. No intestinal worm can live in its presense. Mothers! destroy the worms which infest your little ones, with this delightful syrup., ...

Dr. Laennec.

This renowned Frenchman did more perhaps to clear up the mysteries which before his time had invested the nature of chest diseases than any other physician who ever lived. Yet with all his skill in detecting the nature and form of the malady before him, he was sadly deficient in his knowledge of remedies. He drew vivid pictures of coughs, colds, pleurisy, consumption, croup, bronchitis, catarrhs and all the affections of the air passages still he left but few words concerning their treatment. The youngest physician' to-day knows better how to manage any one of these chest troubles he knows the value of the wild cherry he is acquainted with its supreme virtues he is aware of the many potent agents which enter into the combination of Edward .Wilder's Compound Extract of Wild Cherry, and knows that with the use ot this truly great medicine he is fully master oi the situation, He has no fear in the presence ol croup, no misgivings at the advance of bronchitis he grapples wtth consumption, and subduesevery cough, cold, orcatarrh. Hence every family should always have this invaluable medicine at hand.

St Louis Hospital, Paris,

This ancient instiitution is one oi the largest, If and tb the medical student, the most interesting of the many public charities which adorn the gay capitol of the French. It receives within its walls annually thousands of sick poor. A considerable portion of the building Is set apart for patients suffering with diseases of the skin, and every patient, old or young, is taking potash in some shape, and Honduras sarsaparilla in some form. They were esteemed by the renowned physicians who had charge of fe the skin department as well-specific in almost every variety of cutaneous, disease, whether of rheumatic or scrofulous or simple origin. They were given in tetter, ringworm, nettle-ash, roseash, pimples, scrofula, ulcers, old sores, falling of the hair, etc. Jn all they did good, in inost they effected a cure. But.it has remained for Edward t. Wilder't SartapariUa and Potath to perform the most remarkable cures awarded to any known medicine, it possesses virtues shared by other combination of these'substances.
