Coming Home.
Summer has ended. Vacations are drawing to a close. Already the railway trains are crowded with bronzed and dusty travelers, returning from their summer wanderings, or their sojourn among the hills
or
on the shore. The
huge trunks, almost large enough for a small family to bivouac in,
fill
the bag
gage stations, and make expressmen scowl and scold. The house
in
town is
open its windows are washed its doorplate is polished its furniture is brushed up or replaced. The family goes into winter quarters once more, and the lamp lights make the deserted street cheerful with their glow. ^Jfaere
is a good deal more pleasure in
coming home
of sensible

foolish enough
than ingoing away, when
there is a good home to come to. Perhaps the best thiug about our summer vacations, our jaunts and journeyings, our boarding-houseexperiencesand hotel fare, is the new zesj they give to homelife and the increased estimates they put on its value. The old house never seems so pleasant as when we return to
a summer at the
it from
seaside, or
a month at
the springs. The gayety and glitter, the dissipations and flirtations of Saratoga and Longl^anch, soon pall
on the taste
people, and leave a keener
relish and better appreciation of the quiet joys and delightful routine of home duties and cares. It is such a luxury to get out of a trunk into one's own room It is such a pleasure to be oneself, and dress as one pleases, and not feel that one is always up on exhibition What a benefactor of the race was the man who invented elbow-room Was ever food so palatable or sleep so sweet as in one's own house? The rusty and unfashionable furniture, how comfortable it is,,and how capitally it fits into all the crooks and crannies of our wants! True, the pictures are old, but they are old friends. There is less
guilt
large as were found
on the
walls, but more gold in the heart than at the West End or Congress Hall. The carpets are not so soft, the frescoes are not so gaudy,
the company is not
so
in some
other places
but glare and glitter soon tire tiie eye, and the heart, weary of promiscuous assemblies of people it does not know and can not care for, is at last glad to retreat for protection within four narrow walls.
Coming home after a summer vacation, and finding it the pleasantest place in the world, we wonder that
we were ever

any and intensilied disgust everywhere, was foolish, perhaps, the going away, but it is only by doing foolish things that we learn to be wise. It gave us change, however, and that is something. It tired us of novelties, and that is more. It rediscovered home, and that is most of all. It corrected our estimate of the relative value of quiet and excitement, here and there. It fills us with content, and now we come back, and settle into the old ways, and take up the accustomed duties of life with added interest, freshness aud enjoyment. It makes us realize that after all there is no place like home and we set about making it more attractive and beautiful alul satisfying, with new enthusiasm and zest.
After all there is more philosophy in coming home and settling back into the domesticities of life than some of our people imagine. Our little earth does not amount to much, in comparison with some of the other planets that roll through the infinite depths of space, in sublime indifference to the existence of such a mere mote, dancing and darkling on its way, it'shrivels into nothingness in the sweep of the telescopic vision. But small as it is, when compared with the incomprehensible magnitudes of the sidereal heavens, it is considerably too large for anybody to fill with domestic offices and loves. We may be cosmopolitan in our sympathies, but we must be circumscribed in our interests, affections, aud ways. Everybody aud everywhere are well enough to talk about, but sooner or later the healthy heart gravitates back to somebody somewhere. Mankind, humanity, the progress of the race, the wellfare of all souls—graud ideas are these! They stir the sluggish sensibilities, and catch us up out of all pettiness and selfishness into the region of universal relations and the realm of universal order. But to truly love and wisely serve a dozen or a hundred people is more than most men are equal to. To have circumference we we must be centred to exert influence we must have a point of radiation' to produce results we must have the sources of our life perpetually iuvigorated by comminication with the springs of power hid within the shrines aud sanctities of the great sentiments home refreshes and represents. However magnificent the tree which throws its shade across the
Eighway
ublio square and drops its fruit upon the to refresh the poor passer by, it must have its roots firmly set in some soil
and draw from the resources and reservoirs of the earth and air the elements which give strength to its fiber aud to its products nectar. And there is something suggestive in the fact that most of the men who spend the summer of life in dealing with public affairs, general interests, great social reforms, and vast schemes for the reconstruction of the world, come home in the autumn of their days, rejoicing in its claim, finding wisdom, renewal, and delight in its teuder aud helpful ministress, and wondering that they were ever such fools as to forsake its certain joys and unspeakable opportunities for the unrewarding exactions and illusory splendors of the public stage.
So we come home, tired, yet refreshed soiled, yet strengthened made wiser by the experience of the way, the scenes witnessed and the follies done with less flutter in the nerves and fever in the blood. We all come home at last. Yes, home, with its beautiful memories, its hallowed associations, its loves and joys aud hopes, opens to receive us all. Coming, bring the best the world affords, the costliest culture, the truest affection, tho holiest helpfulness, the taste that refines, the thought thateuobles, the faith that glorifies, the inspirer of life, the Eden of childhood, the renevrer of earth and the prophecy of heaven.—liUon's Golden Age.
Coolness and Courage.
Not long since a Swiss shepherd boy, only fourteen years of age, was tending a jck of sheep among the hills in th floe Canton Grisons, when a bear made a raid
ppon the flock and seised two of the'
finest sheep. The courageous little fellow attempted to drive the bear off by beating him with a stick, but bruin turned upon him, and

upon the pit of the stomach 5f a child, will cause the bowels to be emptied, and alloes kept in contact with a raw surlSce will produce same effect as if the racdicinc had been taken into the stomach. So said the great Dr. Clutterback. Very many persons know the operation of croton oil when placed upon tho tongue, to say the least, it is speedy. Purgatives in some sliafc, are Indispensable in the practice of medicine. Many diseases are incurable without them and all of the simple disorders of the system are benefitted by their use. The great desideratum in their administra tion has been to get one which has either laza tive or purgative, as was needed—always mild but always efficient—and the use of which did not make it necessary to continue its use. Thi has at last been done. EDWARD W ILDER'S FAMILY PILLS fulfill all the requirements of the case. They area laxative, yet sure purgative, yet mild. In small doses, they meet the firat want in large doses, they fulfill the latter but in whatever quantity given, they create no necessity for they create no morbid state of the alimentary canal tube, but leave it cleansed and urge it to renewed health. They are, in brief, a blessing to the individual who suffers from constipation and needs a laxative, and are indispensable to him who is parched with fever and requires a purgative. Use them, all you who value health.
Helminthology.
A distinguished physiologist has declared ttiat it seems to be a principle of nature that every situation capable of supporting organic bodie should be peopled with them. The huge whale is often driven to madess by an almost invisible member of the tribe of vermes. The hlstorv of Helminthology abounds in illustrations of the influence of worms in the production of disease and in the exasperation of their symptoms. The frequency of worms in the bodies of men their obviousness to the senses, together with their common connection with enfeebled and morbid states oi the'animal economy, all tend to render them an object of interest from the remotest periods. The very ablest minds have been devoted to the study of these entoza with the view of discovering some substance which was capable of speedily, safely and permanently expelling them irom the human sytem. EDWARD WILDER'S MOTHER'S WORM SYRUP is a true vermicide, a geunine worm destroyer, a bona fide vermifuge. Its taste is delightful, its effects are quick, its results unfailing. It is free from danger. No intestinal worm can live in its presense. Mothers! destroy the worms which infest your little ones, with this delightful

Dr. Laennec.
This renowned Frenchman did more perhaps to clear up the mysteries which before his time had Invested the nature of chest diseases than any other physician who ever lived. Yet with all his skill in detecting the nature and form of the malady before bim, he was sadly deficient in his knowledge of remedies. He drew vivid pictures of coughs, colds, pleurisy, consump-i tion, croup, bronchitis, catarrhs and all the affectioBSof the air passages still he left but few words concerning their treatment. The youn^.. est physician to-day knows better how to manage any one of these chest troubles he knows the value of the wild cherry he is acquainted with its supreme virtues he is aware of the many potent agents which enter into the combination of Edward Wilder-s Compound Extract of Wild Cherry, and knows that with the use 01 this truly great medicine he is fully master 01 the situation. He has no fear in the presence of croup, no misgivings at the advance of bronchitis he grapples wtth consumption, and subdues every cough, cold, or catarrh.

has been the most written about
No disease presents such various, contrary, and incompatible symptoms. They contradict all the laws of order, constancy and inconsistency, which regulate natural events they bother the doctor, and can only be read by him who is skilled in the book of nature. It is self evident tha the different forms of indigestion are to be met by corresponding methods of cure. It has been said that the perfection of medical skill is the talent of applying to each individual case its precise and as it were, its indi fi.du^l cure. This is the object which every cpnscientious physician pursues unceasingly, and never can rest satisfied until he has overtaken. Edward Wilder's Stomach Bitters, their body being the purest of copper-distilled 'whisky, makes thisobjeict attainable alike to all. They area specific—the disease specifying the:reipedy, »ot the remedy the disease. They are a combination of substances which meet the speciality ot the disorder by a corresponding speciality of cure. They should be kept in every well-regu-lated family they aje indispensable to health
