DRAMATIC LITERARY, ETC.
Mr. W. H. Leake and Annie Waite are now playing a star engagement in Brooklyn, New York. They go Wes' this week, we believe.
One of the London (England) concert saloons already announces in its show bills a new female singer under the name of Louise Lome. Such is greatness.
The Milwaukee papers, when they speak of the dedication of the new Opera House, call it the "gorgeous event that illumined the dramatic and operatic horizon of our city."
Gen. Kilpatrick is on a raid among the publishers to find some one to take charge of the publishing of his magazine, Our Monthly. It is not so successful a raid as he has made, however.
Sree Rungamba Garu is the Olive Logan of the Hindoos, and in her lecture on "The Human Being," at Madras, recently, acknowledged the mental inferiority of women, but she believed that when such ladies as Sheethah Devy, Choodala, Madalasso, Cowsalleya, Suthebahama, and others, had taken leading positions in the arts and sciences, she might be excused for taking to the rostrum for a livelihood. It does seem so.
At the Miles Standish celebration, Dr. Loring of Massachusetts, let out an interesting reminiscence of the Puritan's courtship not related by Longfellow. "I claim the lineal descent from Miles •Standish," said the Doctor, "my grandmother's name was Alathea Alden, whose luisbaud, John Alden, was sent by Stand3sh to court her by proxy, but who accepted a modest hint from the maid, and won her for himself instead of his leader."
The Indianapolis Evening News thus does up anew drop-curtain at that city painted by Mr. T. B. Glessing for the stage of the Olympic Theater, St. Louis "The scene is "The Heartof the Andes," after Church, and is handled in a manner to bring no discredit upon that great artist. It is a grand picture, from the tangle of ferns in the foreground to mountains that tower in the far distance so sublimely serence that, as Fitz Hugh Ludlow says, "they seem like good mountains that have died and gone to heaven." Glessing excels in foliage, and in this picture he has done his best work. The water, too, whether dashing in cascades or sleeping in shaded pools, is singularly faithful to nature, and the entire picture, in detail and general effect is exicelleot. It is a credit to the artist and to the city of his residence."
A St. Louis dispatch dated yesterday, says that "it will be recollected that Christina Nilsson, while coming to this city from Memphis, last April, accidentally dropped some$4,000 worth ofdiamonds from the window of a car, on the Iron Mountain Railroad. Parties searched several days for the jewels, but without success, and MissNilsson gave them up for lost. Yesterday Mrs. Flynn, wife of a laborer on the railroad, found these gems opposite her door, just outside of DeSoto, they having been unearthed by a fractious calf that she had tied to a stake near the railroad track. Miss Nilsson was telegraphed at New York of the recovery of her treasures, and she replied that she would present the Flynn family with $500. The diamonds will be expressed to their owner to-morrow."

Georgia is to have a thirty-six inch railway. The Columbus Sun says the contract for grading, bridging, laying the track, and completing the first twenty miles of the North and South railroad has been awardedr
The opponents of the Vanderbift lines propose to have, their road built to Chicago in 1875, to cheapen the carriage of grain thence to tide-water 80 per cent., to shorten the time of travel to New
York to twenty hours, and the distance by 96 miles from Chicago. AmoDg the passengers by the Scotia, which reached New York port on Tuesday, was Mr. Carl Rosa and Mme. Parepa-Rosa. The operatic season Mme. Rosa intends to give, will not be commenced until October, and the intervening time will be passed at 8haron Springs. Mr. and Mrs. Rosa are now sojourning at the Fifth Avenue Hotel.
The "local" of the Chicago JRepublica says "the newest method of making an honest living is to go round at night with an accomplice, and play torn cat under the window of irascible bachelors. Then they throw boots, boot-jacks, and hairbrushes, crockery, and—and things at you, and you pick them up and sell them for old rags. We got part of a bedroom set worth $7.50 last night, and we are going back to try to get the rest of it."

A Cataplasm of Rhubarb.

upon the pit of the stomach of a child, will cause the bowels to be emptied, and alloes kept in contact with a raw surface will produce same effect as if the medjeinphad been taken into the stomach. So said the grejit Dr. Clulterback. Very many persons know the operation of croton oil when placed upon the tongue, to say the least, it is speedy. Purgatives in some shaAe, are indispensable in the practice of medicine. Many diseases are incurable without them and all of the simple disorders of thesystem are benefitted by their use. The great desideratum in their administra tion has been to get one which has either laxa tive or purgative, as was needed—always mild but always etlicient—and the use of which did not make it necessary to continue itu use. Thi hasat last Meendone. Kdwakd Winder's Fam
Pilis fulfill all the requirements of the case. They area laxative, yet sure purgative, yet mild. Iu small doses, they meet the first want in large doses, they fulfill the latter but in whatever quantity given, they create no necessity for they create no morbid state of the alimentary canal tube, butleave it cleansed and urge it to renewed health. They are, in brief, a blessing to the individual who suffers from constipation and needs a laxative, and are indispensable to him who is parched with fever and requires a purgative. tJse them, all you who value health,
Helminthology.
A distinguished physiologist hasdeclared that it seems to be a principle of nature that every situation capable of supporting organic bodie should be peopled with them. The huge whale is often driven to madess by an almost invisible member of the tribe of vermes. The historv of Helminthology abounds in illustrations of the influence of worms in the production of disease and in the exasperation of their symptoms. The frequency of worms in the bodies of nien their obviousness to the s^pses, together with their oommottconneotion^withenleebledAnd morbid states ol the animal economy, all tend to render them an object of interest from the remotest periods. The very ablest minds have been devoted to the study of these entoza with the view of discovering some substance which was capable of speedily, safely and permanently expelling them irom the human sytem. Ed-
Wu/dkk'6 Mother's Wobm Strot is a true vermicide, a geunine worm destroyer, a bona fide vermifuge. Its taste is delightful, its effects are quick, its results unfailing: It is free from danger. No intestinal worm can live in its presense. Mothers! destroy the worms which infest your little ones, with this delightful syrup.
Dr. Laennec.
This renowned Frenchman did more perhaps to clear up the mysteries which before his time had invested the nature of chest diseases than any other physician who ever lived. Yet with all his skill in detecting the nature and form of the malady before him, he was sadly deficient in his knowledge of remedies. He drew vivid pictures of coughs, colds, pleurisy, consumption, croup, bronchitis, catarrhs and all the affections of the air passages still he left but few words concerning their treatment. The youngest physician to-day knows better how to manage any one of these chest troubles he knows the Value of the wild cherry he is acquainted with its supreme virtues he is aware of the many potent agents which enter into.the combination of Edward Wilder-s Compound Extract of Wild Cherry, and knows that w.ith the use oi this truly great medicine he is fully master oi the situation. He has no fear in the presence oi croup, no misgivings at the advance of bronchitis he grapples wtth consumption, and subdues every cough, cold, or catarrh. Hence every family should always have this invaluable medicine at hand. .haw v.:i
Indigestion,
'Which makes sleep a pain, and turns its balm to wormwood," ti isJit JS'i' iiifi Is, we all know, the most, common of alff disorders of the stomach. It is also the mo obstinate. It has been the m6st written about No disease presents such various, contrary, and incompatible symptoms. They contradict all the laws of order, constancy and inconsistency, which regulate natural events they bother the doctor, and can only be read by him whois skilled in tliebookof nature. It is self evident tha the. different forms of indigestion are to be met by corresponding methods of cure. It has been said that the perfection of medical skill is the talent of applying to each individual case its precise and as it were, its indi rldual cure. This is the object Which every conscientious physician pursues unceasingly-, and never can rest satisfied until he has overtaken. Edward Wilder's Stomach Bitim, their'body being the purest of copper-distilled whisky, makes this object attainable" alike to all. They area specific—the dlsease'specifying the remedy, not the remedy the disease. Tiiey area combination of substances which meet the speciality oi the disorder by a corresponding speciality of cure. They should be kept in every well-regu-lated family they are indispensable to health

The British army when It advancea on Taiavara and fonght the celebrated battle, which was followed by a retreat into the plains, lost more men by the malarial diseases contracted on the banks cf the Gaadiaha than by the bullets of the enemy. They died by thowmds All Europe believed that the invading army was extirpated. Yet malaria diseases are no more common in Europe than In our own country^ they exlfit throughout the length and breadth of our land—every ^whereat some time and in some shape are we made to feel the sickening influence of miasm. The three gref actors in this equatioii of disease are solar heat, moisture, and vegetable decomposition. The tiio, if separated, are harmless together they are more potent for evil than ahy Other known agents so long as they exist, Just so long will we have need of a medicine which will overcome their pernicious effects, so long will it be necessary to have a remedy capable' of meeting and beating the lnsidious'fenemy Of all knoWn agents for this purpose,' otfne & tfr coaifrare with Edward Wilder1s Chill Tonie, tha master, of every form atid variety and grade and degree-of malarial disease and of miasmatic poison. .. This ancient instlitutioh IS dnfi ol the largest, and to the medical student, the most-interest-ing of the many public charities which adorn the gay capitol of the French. It receives within its walls annually thousands of sick poor. A considerable portion of the building is set spart tor patients suffering with diseases of the skin, and every patient, old or young, Is taking potash in some shape, and Honduras sarsaparilla in some form. They were esteemed by the renowned physicians who had charge of the department as well-specific In almost every variety of cutaneous disease, whether of rheumatic or scrofulous or simple origin.
