Wade vs. Giddings—Shakpeare Marvelously Misquoted. Hon. Betijamin F. Wade and the late Hon. Joshua Qiddings used to be constant competitors at the bar in "old, benighted Ashtabula," their place of residence. In the early part of his practice Wade was defending a man against an action of slander, and, after having con~ eluded a very effective speech to the jury, sat awkwardly leaning backward, his feet on the counsel table, and facing Qiddings, who was attempting to be eloquent in behalf of his slandered client. "Gld Gid," as he was familiarly called, knew a little smattering of Shakespeare, and now determined to bring that great author to his aid. "Gentlemen of the jury," said he with ardor,
He that steals my purse, steal trash But he that robs me of my good name— (Ahem)!

A Mystery In Walthain.
About half-past 7 o'clock Thursday evening, the citizens of this town were startfed with the cry that the Orthodox Church was on fire. The alarm was at once sounded, and a large crowd repaired to the spot, where apparently a volume of smoke was soon seen issuing from the tower of the church above the bell deck. To all appearances the flames were just ready to burst forth, and the engines were in readiness to throw their streams upon it, when the people were still more astounded by an announcement that the Methodist Church was also on fire and this, too, in the tower above the bell
^rhose who were experienced in fire matters were somewhat amazed to account for the origin of the two fires simultaneously, and both in corresponding parts of the church, and the excitement among the thousand or two of people who witnessed the scene was increasing, when they were almost horror-struck to perceive that the Baptist Church was-in the same condition, though the smoke appeared to be more dense. All this occurred within a few seconds, and it seemed that the flames must first burst from the Baptist Church. The firemen directed their attention to that edifice, and the ladders had already been placed in position, when, just as the steamer was about to play, the Chief Engineer, who nad concluded that there could not be any fire upon the premises, ordered the men to suspend their labors and return to their homes with their engines.
For three-quarters of an hour afterward the black volume continued to pour fourth, when just before dark it ceased in about as mysterious a manner as it commenced. This singular phenomenon was the absorbing topic throughout the evening, and no person could be found who could account for it. Perhaps the scientific gentlemen at Cambridge may be able to solve the mystery.—Boston Journal.
As a rule, women, when they converse at all do so better than men. We say when they converse, because there are so many women who never converse, but only talk. The fashionable dribble, the meaningless abuse of neighbors and friends, or the prattle about dress and social gatherings is not conversation. When women are sufficiently educated to take part in conversation, especially with the rougher sex, they are always quicker and more sensitive than men. They have, as the artists say, a lighter touch. This greater swiftness of perception in women is a very brilliant and attractive quality, and, one of which they are conscious and proud. Their mental machinery works more quickly and easily than does that of man. In that kaleidoscope-like welling up of thoughts which seems to take place in the mind, theirs seems to be thrown to the .surface in greater abundance and more rapidly thau are those of men. Woman's fancy is richer than ours is, and she has more fecundity of idea9. But this greater fecundity produces widely different results in different individuals*. In women of high capacity and intelligence it leads to the development of many very delightful social qualities. They have a readiness of resource which enables them to say the very thing that is most right, at the very moment when it is most wanted, to rectify the blunders of other people—of their stupid male relatives notably—to anticipate and prevent some threatening contretempts, or to counteract its effect a moment after its occurrence. It enables them to set the talk going at critical moments, and to keep it alive with bright answers and lively repartee always. It gives them the power of Keeping people in good humor, or of restoring their equanimity when it has gone. Their descriptive powers are also very great. The •woman who can really converse are as far above the ordinary man-talker as he is above the prattlers of the weaker sex.-
At this point, to his great discomfiture, Shakespeare deserted him. He repeated: But lie that robs me of good name— (Another pause.) "Takes that I nfeVfefl 'had," whispered Wade,
Greenfield (Ohio) Correspondence of the Chilicothe Register. a:
Romantic Result of Stare. A beautiful and wealthy "young lady, at asocial party, took offense at what she supposed to be the impertinent gaze of a gentleman present, who was a stranger to her, but a friend of the lady of the house. The young lady demanded his expulsion as a condition of her remaining. Explanations ensued. The gentleman was not looking at her, "though beautiful enough to attract and fasten the attention of any one." He was looking at anne land costly chain that encircled the fair one's neck—just such a one as he had purchased for his sister*—in one ofthe llaWof which (having a secret opening) he had put his likeness. But 86me months since, -and before he had an opportunity to present it to his sister, it was stolen from him. Upon examining the lady's chain he touched a spring (to the little beauty unknown) an lo, and behold! there was his photograph.
I leave you to judge of the confusion of the fair one. She immediately offered to return the piece of jewelry, which was politely declined, for the -time, and It is said by knowing ones, that she has coacluded to accept
It is but justice to remark that the young lady had bought the chain of a traveling peddler, who had stopped at her father's honse, for about half of its original cost.
The St. Louis Dispatch is shocked at the bad manners of some of the boarders it knows of, and proceeds to read them the following little lecture: "Don't say 'pass' the krout, or shove along the hash. Well conducted boarders always say 'Will you be so kind as to escort the lobscouse hithervvard.'

and Geu. Ag'tt, Stii Francisco, Gal., audSU and 34 Commerco St, X.Y. Vinegar Bitters are not a vile Fancy lrink Made of Poor Bnm, .Whisky, Proof Spirits and Refuse Liquors doctored, spiced and sweetened to please the taste, called "Tonics," "Appetizers," "Restorers," &c., that lead the tippler on to drunkenness and ruin, but area true Medicine, made from the Native Roots and Herbs of California, free from all Alcoholic Stimulants. They are the GREAT ItLOOD PURIFIER and A LIFE GIVISTO PRINCIPLE, a perfect Renovator and Invigorator of the System, carrying off all poisonous matter and restoring the blood to a healthy condition. No person can take these Bitters according to directions and remain long unwell, provided their bones are not destroyed by mineral poison or other means, and the vital organs wasted beyond the point of repair.
Tliey are a gentle Purgative as well as a Tonic, possessing also, the peculiar merit of acting as a powerful agent in relieving Congestion or inflammation of the Liver, and all the Visceral Organs.
FOR FEMALE COMPLAINTS, whether in young or old, married or single, at the dawn of womanhood or at tlie turn of life, these Tonic Bitters have no equal. for Inflamnmtorjr «»a«1 Chronic lilietimatisin and Oont, lyspepsia or Indigestion, Billions, Remittent and Intermittent Fevers, Diseases of tlie Blood, Liver, Kidneys and Bladder, these Bitters liave been most successful. Sncli Diseases are caused by Vitiated Blood, which is generally produced uy derangement of the Digestive Organs.
DYSPEPSIA OR IDIGESTION Headache, Painin the Shoulders, Coughs, Tightness of the Chest, Dizziness, Sour Eructations of the Stomach, Bad taste in the Mouth, Billious Attacks, Palpitation of the Heart, Inflamation of the Lungs, Pain in the region ot the Kidneys, and a hundred other painful symptoms, are the offsprings of Dyspepsia.
They invigorate the Stomach and stimulate the torpid liver and bowels, which render them of unequalled efficacy in cleansing the blood of all impurities, and imparting new life and vigor to the whole system.
FOR SKIN DISEASES, Eruptions, Tetter, Salt Rheum, Blotches, Spots, Pimples, Pustules, Boils, Carbuncles, Ring Worms, Scald Head, Sore Eyes, Erysiplas, Itch, Scurfs, Discolorations of the Skin, Humors and Diseases of the Skin, of whatever name oi? nature, are literally dug up and carried out, of the system in a short time by the use of these Bitters. One bottle in such cases will convince the most incredulous of the curative effect
Cleanse the Vitiated blood whenever you find its impurities bursting through theskin in Pimples, Eruptions or Sores, cleanse it when you find ft oostructed and sluggish in the veins: cleanse it when it is foul, and yoar feelings will tell you when. Keep the blood pure and the health of the system will follow.
PIN, TAPE, and other WORMS, lurking in the system of so many thousands, are effectually destroyed and removed. For full dtiections, read carefully the circular around each bottle.printed in four languages—English, German, French and Spanish.

This renowned Frenchman did more perhaps to clear up the mysteries wMch before his time had invested the nature of chest diseases thaqi -j any other physician who ever lived. Yet with all his skill in detecting thenatuxe and fQrpvol the malady before blm, he was sadly deficient:v/. in his knowledge of remedies. He drew viviu pictures of coughs, colds, pleurisy, consump^ tion, croup, bronchitis, catarr.hs and all the afj([^ factious of the air passages still he left but fewwords concerning their treatment. The young-,, est physician-to-day knows better liow td manage any one of these chest troubles liekooiw® the value of the wild cherry he is acquainted with its supreme virtues he is awarei of ther many potent agents which enter into the combination of Edward Wilder-* Compound Extract of Wild Cherry, and knows that with the use oi this truly great medicine he is. fully master ot the situation. He has no fear in the presence ot _r croup, no misgivings at the advance of bronchitis he grapples wtth consumption, and subdues every cough, cold, or catarrh. Hence every family should always have this invaluable medficlneat hand. nistiiiCK,} us *Uhitw f)h(

is, we all know, the irioatj common' of all the' disorders of the stomach. It is .also the most obstinate. It has been the most written about. No disease presents such various, contrary, and incompatible symptoms. They contradict alf, the laws of, order, constant and inconsistent, which regulate natural events they bother the doctor, and can only be read by him whole skilled in thebook of nature. Itisself evident that the different forms of indigestion are to be met by corresponding methods of care. It has been said that the perfection of medical skill is the talent of applying to each individual case its precise and asit were, its indi/idual cure.
