So K11 Klux ia Northern Alabama. We lake the following report of the Grand Jury of the United States District Court from the Huntsville Advocate, an Administration paper. After making the report that the laws were respected in that'District, the Grand Jury were discharged for want of something to do. We can not present any better evidence of the peaceful disposition of a people who have been most grossly maligned for partisan purposes:

the Hon. Richard Bustced: The Grand Jurors of the District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, beg have to submit the following report:

We are happy to announce, that, as far as we have been able to ascertain from the fact and evidence before us, we find a cheerful disposition on the part of the citizens of the Northern District of Alabama to respect, and yield a willing obedience to the majesty of the law.

respect to tlie solitary case of violation of the law alluded to by your Honor in your charge to us, we find' upon thorough examination, it is not sustained by the evidence.

No disturbances have occurred to mar or endanger the safety of individuals, or disturb them in the peaceful enjoyment of rights guaranteed by the laws of the land, and it is a source of gratification to us to make the announcement, that we confidentially believe, that the feelings of the great mass of our people are in unison with the patriotic sentiments uttered by your Honor in your charge^tothe Grand Jury of the Districts, "that the period has been inaugurated which shall witness all the States of our beloved country fraternal in fact, as well as in name, and when there shall be neither fair pretext nor actual necessity, for the passage of any law of Congress intended to suppress local irregularities, or offences against the rights of citizens of the Republic at large.

Entertaining these sentiments, and feeling that our present duties are no longer required in the interest of the Government, we ask to be discharged.

The Issues.

The Republican press of the country lias been pleased to commend the resolutions adopted by the Democratic county convention of Montgomery county, Ohio. Those resolutions have attracted unusual attention from the fact that prominent Democrats of the State were members of convention, and frankly expressed the opinion that the three latest amendments to the Constitution of the United States must be recognized as valid.

For this reason Republicon newspapers have said that the Democratic party is preparing to take possession of the Republican platform. The statement is but another method of saying that the Republican party stands on a single plank, and that is reconstruction and the legislation and policies therewith joined. Conservative Congressmen of the ruling party declare that the lynching act passed at the last session of Congress was not a part of reconstruction. It was enacted after the admission of all the Southern States, and carried by the votes of the extreme or radical wing of the party.

The single plank to which \ye have referred has been made the dominant issue. The Democrats have been beaten in their contest on that issue. They acknowledge this fact, and acknowledge, also, that there is no prospect of changing the popular verdict. The constitutional amendments to which we have referred, aside from the imposition of political disabilities, go to the establishment of this single principle, that civil and political rights shall not be determined by race.

The people have decided that this priuci pie shall be sustained. The Democracy

icago Times.

RECENT accounts of the discovery of gigantic human remains embedded in the eartli would appear to necessitate a change in the theory by which modern science attempts to account for the origin of man. Writers, like the author of the "Vestiges of Creation," have evidently begun at the wrong end of the chain whose various links are supposed to furnish such a plausible argument In sup-

Eort

of their theory. Instead of the uman race having been gradually "developed" from the oyster, it would appear that the primeval man was a colossus, and that he is slowly but surely dwindling down to the oyster. This theory is certainly flattering to a man wheu contemplating his ancestry, but less oonsoliug wheu looking forward to his progeny. A human skeleton just dug up on the banks of the Kern river in California measured seven feet, five and a half inches in length while another, found twelve feet below the surface in Jeifersouville, Indiana, measured twelve feet. With regard to the California giant we are told that "the skull was much larger than ordinary sized omniums moving around at the present day," and that "a full-grown person placed his head inside the skull." We commend the example of this "full-grown person to all people with "ordinary sized craniums moving around at the present day." Let them hide their diminished heads in the the skulls of their ancestors whenever they get a chance.—N.Y» Times. 9

The Savior's Personal Appearance. The following is a description of the person of Jesus Christ, as it was found in an ancient manuscript sent by Judea to to the Senate of Rome: "There lived at the time in Judea a man of singular character, whose name is Jesus Christ. The barbarians esteem laim as a propliet, but his followers adorn him as tiie immediate offspring of the immortal God! iie is endowed with such unparalleled virtue as to call back the dead from their graves, and to heal every kiud of disease with word or touch. His person is tall and elegantly shaped, his aspect amiable, reverend.

His hair flows in those benutiful shades which no united colors cm match, falling In graceful curls below his ears, agreeably orouching on his shoulders and parting ou the crown of his head like the head-dress of the sect of the

His forehead is smooth and large, his cheeks without spot save that of a lovely red his nose and mouth are formed with exquisite symmetry his beard is thick and suitable to the hair of his

his eyes are bright, clear and serene. He rebukes with majesty, counsels with mildness and invites with the most ad dress, whether in word or deed, being elegant and strictly characteristic so ex aulted a being. No man has seen him laugh, but the whole world haa seen him weep frequently and so persuasive are his tears none can refrain joining in sympathy with him. He is always moderate, temperate and wise. In short, whatever the phenomenon may turn out in the end he seems at present a man for ex cellent beauty and divine perfections every way surpassing the children of men.

upon the pit of the stomach of a child, will cause the bowels to be emptied, and alloeskept in contact with a raw surface will produce same effect as if the medicine had been taken into the stomach. So said the great Dr. Clutterback. Very many persons know the operation of croton oil when placed upon the tongue, to say the least, it is speedy. Purgatives in some shape, are indispensable in the practice of medicine. Many diseases are incurable without them and all of the simple disorders of the system are benefitted by their use. The great desideratum in their administration has been to get one which has either laxative or purgative, as was needed—always mild but always efficient—and the use of which did not make it necessary to continue its use. This has at last been done. EDWARD WINDER'S FAMILY PILLS fulfill all the requirements of the case. They area laxative, yet sure purgative, yet mild. In small doses, they meet the first want in large doses, they fulfill the latter but in whatever quantity given, they create no necessity for they create no morbid state of the alimentary canal tube, but leave it cleansed and urge it to renewed health. They are, in brief, a blessing to the individual who suffers from constipation and needs a laxative, and are indispensable to him who is parched witn fever and requires a purgative. Use them, all ou who value health.

Helmintliology.

A distinguished physiologist has declared that it seems to be a principle of nature that every situation capable of supporting organic bodie should be peopled with them. The huge whale is often driven to madess by an almost invisible member of the tribe of vermes. The history of Helmintliology abounds in illustrations of the influence of worms in the production of disease and in the exasperation of their symptoms. The frequency of worms in the bodies of men, their obviousness to the senses, together with their common connection with enfeebled and morbid states ot the animal economy, all tend to render theih an object of interest from the remotest perioils. The very ablest minds have been devoted to the study of these entoza with the view of discovering some substance which was capable of speedily, safely and permanently expelling them trom the human sytem. EDWAKD WILDEK'.S MOTHER'S WORM SYRUP is a true vermicide, a geunine worm destroy er, a bona fide vermifuge. Its taste is delightful, its effects arc quick, its results unfailing. It.Is free from danger. No intestinal worm can live in itspresense. Mothers! destroy the worms which infest your little ones, with this delightful syrup.

Dr. Laennec.

This renowned Frenchman did more perhaps to clear up the mysteries which before his time had invested the nature of chest diseases than any other physician who ever lived. Yet with all his skill in detecting the nature and form oi the malady before liim, he was sadly deficient in his knowledge of remedies. He drew vivid pictures of coughs, colds, pleurisy, consumption, croup, bronchitis, catarrhs and all the ale fectionsof the air passages still he left but tew words concerning their treatment. The youngest physician to-day knows better how to manage any one of these chest troubles lie knows the value of the wild cherry he is acquainted with its supreme virtues he is aware of the many potent agents which enter into the combination of Jidward Wilder'.s Coitijtouiul J^xlruct of Wild Cherry, and knows that with the use ox this truly great medicine lie is fully master or the situation, He lias 110 fear in the presence ol croup, no misgivings at the advance of bronchitis he grapples wtth consumption, and subdues every cough, cold, or catarrh. Hence every family should always have this invaluable medicine at haudj.

Indigestion,

'Which makes sleep a pain, and turns its balm to wormwood," is, we all know, the most, common of all the disorders of the stomach. It is also the most obstinate. It has been the most written about. No disease presents such various, contrary, and incompatible symptoms. They contradict all the laws of order, constancy and wconslaUmey which regulate natural events they bother the doctor, and can only be read by him who is skilled in the book of nature. It is sell'evident that the different forms of indigestion are to be met ty corresponding metiroA"

has been said that the perfection of medical skill is the talent of applying to each individual case its precise and as it were, its individual cure. This is the object which every conscientious physician pursues unceasingly, and never can rest satisfied until he has overtaken. i.dward Wilder's Si&mach Bitters, their body being the purest of copper-distil led whisky, makes this object attainable alike to all. They area specific—the disease specifying the remedy, ^ot the remedy the disease. They are a combination of substances which meet the speciality of the disorder by a corresponding speciality of cure. They should be kept in every well-regu-lated family

Gaudianna River.

The British army when it advanced on Talavara and fought the celebrated battle, which was followed by a retreat into the plaips, loet more men by the malarial diseases contracted on the banks of the Gaudiana than by the bujlets of the enemy. They died by thousands,' All Europe believed that the invading army was extirpated. Yet malaria diseases are no more common in Europe than in our own country

exist throughout the length and

breadth of our land—everywhere at some time and in some shape are we made to feel the sickening influence of miasm. The three great actors in this equation of disease are solar heat, moisture, and vegetable decomposition. The tiio, if separated, are harmless together they are more potent for evil than any other known agents so long as they exist, just so long will we have need of a medicine which will overcome their pernicious effects, so long will it be necessary to have a remedy capable of meeting and beating the insidious enemy. Of all known agents for this purpose, none is to compare with

Edward Wilder's Chill Tonic, the master of every form aud variety and grade and degree of malarial disease and of miasmatic poison. Try it, all you who are suffering from any form of ague and fever or chills and fever, as a cure is guaranteed in every case.

St. Louis Hospital, Paris.

This ancient institution is one ol the largest, and to the medical student, the most interesting of the many public charities which adorn the gay capitol of the French. It receives within its walls annually thousands of sick poor. A considerable portion of the building is

apart tor patients suffering with diseases of the skin, and every patient, old or young, is taking potash in some shape, and Honduras sarsaparilla in some form. They were esteemed by the renowned physicians who had «harge ol

They were given in tetter, ringworm, nettle-asli, roseash,"pimples, scrofuia, ulcers, old sores, falling of the hair, etc. In all they did good, in most they effected a cure. But it has remained for Edward Wilder's Sarsaparilla and Potash to perform the most remarkable cures awarded to any known medicine. It possesses virtues shared by no other combination of these substances. It is a therapeutic marvel. Against all the diseases at which it is aimed it is simply resistless it never fails. See to it that you snffer not one day longer with any of the ills-which it cures. Getitatonoe. jhjsH 'nx/.
