commenced the

£priag-4erra~oa~yesterday under mo: favorable auspices than any other term in the history of our city, to the accomplishment of which object. Superintendent Wiley, and his able corps of teachers have exerted themselves with the most Hatteriug results. As a citizen of Terre? Haute, we feel proud of the management of our public schools. We feel assured that the educational interests of our city was never in abler hands, and never in a more flourishing condition. How could it be otherwise with so efficient krul &b!e a Superintendent as Prof. Wiley, and as competent a corps of finished and accomplished principals and teachers as we now have. It the parents will only do their duty as the Superintendent, principals and teachers do theirs, the educational interests of their children will be well attended to. llight here we wish to call attenton to one veryrgreat jui.sta.ke parents ma though we .are willing to accord to them -the best of motives. They, iii many ininstances, listen to thegos^ipping of their children, and ol'ten-times encourage it, and frequently set them the example, and when they make complaints against their teachers, instead of going to the teacher at the close of the exercises of the day and asking an explanation, .and endeavoring to learn what foundation the story lias, in fact, rush right into the room ^nd commence an indiscriminate abuse of teachers and schools in general, and the teacher present in particular. Parenti should bear in mind, the pernicious influence such a course has upon their own children, not only, but their neighbors' children as well, who are present and witness such a spectacle. We have heard of several just such cases as this, where the teachers were not to blame in the least, at that.

Teachers of our public schools merit the thanks, earnest co-operation and hearty sympathy of the parents of the children for whom they are doing and enduring so much. The life of a teacher is an annoying one in many respects, and they are but poorly remunerated by the mere pittances of salaries which they receive, and it is an outrage that they are Compelled to suller the abuse of thoughtless parents who give heed to the tattling of their children. Let the teachers of our public schools, at least, receive the thanks of all for the daily sacrifices which they make.

Thursday evening of this week, is one long to be remembered by our citizens as being the first'time within the history of entertainments here that they will be favored with a grand English Opera with full orchestra and choruses. We

the most enjoyable 'eiiterfcuinments of a season which 11as been one_unparalled in the number and quality of amusements with which we have all bferin so favored. We know the facts will bear us out in the statement that no city^of pur^population in the tJnion, can boast of so many first-class entertainments, in the way of theaters and operas, as our own city is favored.
