TIIE great New York sensation of "Lurline" will be presenred to a large audience at the Opera House to-night. Don't fail to go if you can enjoy a good

laugh. THE Theater Comique was well attended last evening. A very good variety entertainment was given in a very acceptable manner, and was warmly applauded. Open each evening.

Meeting of the Jnuior and Senior Classes Last Evening.

Interesting Exercises.

The regular semi-monthly exercise# of the Junior and Senior classes of the city Hi^h School took place in the lower session room of the Normal building last evening, before a small audience, composed in mo-^t part of scholars from the different schools of the city, and a few of the parents and friends of the scholars. It was throughout a very pleasant and interesting atfair. The pieces were generally well committed and familiar. Some of the students evinced a considerable degree of care and thought in their productions.

The music, consisting of two duetts, was selected with much good taste, and the execution, especially of the tirst piece, was better than is usual liom.ueh performers. "The "Polish Boy," a declamation by Miss Fisher, was well rendered. Mr. Greeu's oration on Destiny" was unusually good for so young an author. The "correspondence" between two cousins, one a country, the other a city girl, by Miss Rupp and Mis* Glick was interesting, witty and entertaining. In fact, would space allow many good things might be said of each performance. We were little surprised that none of the young ladies gave us a word or so in favor and in vindication of "Their Rights." The young gentlemen should abate not one particle of their applica. aon and industry, for it was alarmingly evident tint the girls were at least their equals—in thought, expression and information. The performance, altogether, reflects much credit upon the scholars, the teachers and the school, and inducements, by frequent performances of this kind, to clothe their own thoughts, ideas and acquirements, will result in more good than acquisitions to the number ot pages studied in the text book.

We commend most heartity the efforts of all these boys and girls—their performances were good—but the best of ii is in tiie effects of such efforts upon themselves. Citizens, encourage such exercises by your presence, interest and approval, thus inciting your children to greater exertions, and awakening a deeper interest in them. The result will be, places and amusements, whose influence is evil, will cease to allure the children will lay hold eayerly of principles and ideas that will form lasting foundations upon which to build enduring characters of noble men and women.

TIIE BLONDE BURLESQITERS.—A large and brilliant audience of the elite of the city—and of course, consisting largely oi ladies—assembled at the Opera House iast evening to greet the second appearance of the famous Lisa Weber Blondes. The entertainment opened with thai screaming farce which was given the first evening with such success, entitled the "Laughing Hyena," in which Ketchum distinguished himself and kepi the audience in a convulsion of laughter by his faultless acting, which far excel.anything of the kind we have ever witnessed anywhere. He played the jealous husband even better than did the previous evening while Vincent acted tiie part of tiie "young man in the checker-board suit" in such a manner a.to "bring down the house," and Miss O'Neil and Miss Troy did splendidly in the characters they asumed.

The play of "La Sonnambula," did not like so well as "Ernani," thougl it was presented by the company in a most faithful manner, and the burlesque was complete. The "play on words" in this piece is immensp, and many of tin "sharps" were most enthusiastically applauded about three to fifteen minute if: 13v were gotten off.

Miss Weber more than sustained her reat reputation last evening as Allessio, and in fact in all tiie characters she as--umed, and was frequently and loudly applauded. But each and every one ol he combination are of a superior talent.

This evening will be presented the great New York sensation of "Lurline," at the conclusion of which Mr. \V. C. Crosbit will sing a couple of song of his own composing entitled, "An 'Orrible Tale" am. the "Sneezing Song," in which he is said lo be immense. Many local "hits" will also be introduced which were omitted last evening together with several others.

Let the Opera House he full to-night, for it is the last opportunity you will havi of seeing the "beautiful blondes," and the most laughable burlesque ever put upon the stage. Ladies need not be afraid to no, for tiie audience last evening was about half composed of ladies.

THE FIUK.---The alarm of fire that wa sounded last night a little after 12 o'clock, was occasioned by the discovery of fire in the clothing store of Mr. Strau, located in the Journal building.

Mr. James O'Mara and Oilicer Yost were the first parties in the store, and found the lire had been kindled about midway of the store and under the counter, evidently having been placed there by an incendiary. They alto discovered the door of the safe to be open, and immediately secured the insurance policies and about two hundred dollar, worth of silverware belonging to Mrs. Straus, which they carefully placed in the hands of the family all right. The stock was insured as follows: Franklin, Philadelphia, $3,000, represented by Ha ger& McKeau Lorrillard, New York, $500, represented by Hosford, Boudiuot oc Brown. The loss on the stock of good? from tire and water has not been determined upon, but is not very great. That matter is beinj adjusted now.

The lire companies were promptly on haud, but, owing to what was evidently apiece of most infamous maliciousness on the part of some one, No. 2 could not get afire started in the fire-box. It is thought some one poured water* on the kindling-wood in the fire-box, wnich prevented the fire (rom burning. After the "beuzine," which is always poured over the kindling, wood, had burned, the boys were compelled to take out the material from the box and replace it after reaching the fire. It 'ii believed that it»was done by the party or parties who fired the store. At least

THAT unwelcome pest, the house fly, has already put in an appearance.—Jour-

Just as" we'' expected. The Journal office has attracted the first flies of the season. But how even flies can endure the stench of that old "rat office" is a mystery.± J,.,-

EVIDENCE OF PKOSPUKITY.—The Marshall Messenger comes to us this week enlarged from a twenty-eight to a tiftysix column paper, and very greatly im proved in every respect. Its genera, typographical appearance, and the interesting reading matter with which itcolumns are filled, would do honor to a city. We wish our neighbor prosperity.
