A Mail and A Fair of Mules Carried Three Uumlred Feet 011 a Cow•catcher.

Ye.iterd:iy morning, at about 10 o'clock, as train No. 4, soutu-Uoiind from Indian upoli-s 011 the Jeilersonville, Madison ct Indianapolis Railroad, was approaching the tirst road-crossing south of thestarclj factory, this side 01 Edinhurg, a man named Abraham Rjs.sell, with a wagon and two mules, attempted to pass tin track in the face of tne locomotive. The consequence was thata collision resulted, and tae cow-catcher caught up man, nviles, and wagon. The train was run niug at a speed estimated between twenty and thirty miles an hour. Tintrain, having the Westin^ham atmospheric brakes on it, they were applied, aud it was slopped in the short space of not quite three hundred feet from the crs«.inir Unon looking for the man, the officers of the train found hut sitting 011 tne lore part of me engine, with a few slight scratches, and the mules were hanging on to the cow-catcher, bellowing at a terrible, rate, but, upon being extricated, got up, and were found not to be injured in the least. The wagon and harness were the only parts of the team injured thev were torn into slivers.

Had it not been for the efficacy of the "Westinghaia brake, the officers think the accident must have proved fatal. Tlie Jeffersonville road is now having fhis brake applied to all its trains. The (iiam was the property of Jacob Multz, pf Bdinburg.—Louixville

upon the pit of the stomach of a child, will cause the bowels to be emptied, and ulioes kept iu contact with a raw surface will produce same effect as if thu medicihehad been taken into the stomach. So said the great Dr Ciutterbaek. Very many persons know the operation of croxon oil when placed upon the tongue, to say the least, It is speedy. Purga tivesin some sha e, are indispensable iu the practice of medicine. Many diseases are insurable without, them and all of the simple .isomers of the system are benefitted by their use. The great desideratum iu theii administration has been to get ou«j which has either laxalive or purgative, as was needed—always mild out always efficient—and the use of which did not make it necessary to continue its use. This, nasat last been done. EDWARD

In small doses, they meet the first ivant iu laige doses, they lulfill the latter but in whatever quantity given, they create 110 necessity for they create no morbid state of the alimentary canal tube, but lea\ it cleansed ind urge it to renewed health. Ilelmintliology.

A distinguished physiologist liasdeclared that it seems to be a principle ot nature that every -itnation capable of supporting organic bodies diould be peopled with them. The huge whale is often driven to mad ess by an almost invisible member of the tribe of vermes. Tlie history 'of lielmintliology abounds in illustrations ol tlie influence of worms in the production of disease and in the exasperation of their symptoms. I'he frequency of worms in the bodies of men, their obviousness to tlie senses, together with r.lieir common connection with enfeebled and morbid states ol the animal economy, all tend to render them an object of interest from tlie remotest periods. Tlie very ablest minds have been devoted to the study of these entoza with ihe view of discovering some substance which was capable of speedily, sal'elyand permanently .-xpelling them rrom the human sytem. Elu'aud Wij,nm:'s MoniKit'S \V'oi:M SviiL'i' is a irue vermicide, a genuine worm destroyer, a bo)ia fide vermifuge. Its taste is delightful, its effects are quick, its results unfailing. It is free from danger. .No intestinal worm can live in its presense. Mothers! destroy the worms which infest your liltle ones, with this delightful syrup.,

Dr. Laennec.

This renowned Frenchman did more perhaps to clear up the mysteries which before his thue had invested the nature of chest diseases than my other physician who ever lived. Vet with all his skill iu detecting tlie nature and form ol tlie malady before him, he was sadly deficient in his knowledge of remedies, lie drew vivid pictures of coughs, colds, pleurisy, consumption, croup, bronchitis? catarrhs and all Ihe affect ions of the air passages still lie left but few .voids concerning their treatment. Tne youngest physician to-day knows better how to manage any one of these chest troubles iieknow* the value of tlie wild cherry iie is acquainted with its supreme virtues he is aware of the many potent agents which enter into the combination of Kdward Wilder's Compound Kxlracl of Wild Cherry, and knows that with the use oi this truly great medicine he is fully master ol the situation lie has 110 fear in the presence ol croup, 110 misgivings at tlie advance of bronchitis he grapples with coMsumption, and subdues every cough, cold, ore itarrh. Hence every la.nily siuuid always iiHve this invaluable medicine at hand.

Indigestion,

'Which makes sleep a pain, and turns its balm to worm wood," is, we all know, the most, common of all the disorders of tne stomach. It is also the most obstinate. It has been tliu most written about. No disease presents such various, contrary, and incompatible symptoms. Tliey cuiitiailicl ah the laws of order, constancy and inconsistency, which regulate natural events tbey bother the doctor, and can only be read by him who is skilled in the book of nature. It is seif evident that the different forms of indigestion are to be met by corresponding methods of cure. It has been said that the perfection of medical skill is the talent of applying to each individual case its precise and as it were, its individual cure. This is the object which every conscientious physician pursues unceasi ugly, and never can rest satisfied until he has overtaken. JmItvard Wilder'.* Stomach Hitlers, their body being t.tic pure.it of copper distilled Whisky, makes ibis object attainable alike to all. They area specific—the disease specifying the remedy, not the remedy the'disease. They area combination of substances which meet the speciality ol the disordtr by a corresponding speciality ol .•ure. They should be kept in every well-regu-lated family they are indispensable to health-

Gamlianna Hirer.

The British army wnen it advanced on Talavara and fought the celebrated battle, which was followed by a retreat into the plains, lost more men by the malarial diseases contracted on the banks of the Gaudiana than by the bullets of the enemy. They died by thousands All Europe believed that the in\ailing army was extirpated*. Yet malarial diseases are no more common in Kurwpe than ill our own country they exist throughout the length and breadth of our land—everywhere at some time and iu some shape are we made to feel the sickoning influence of miasm. Tlie three great a^ors in this equal ion of disease are solar heat, moi.ture, and vegetable decomposition. Tlie tiio, if separated, are harmless together they are more potent -forevil than an\ other known agents so long as they exist, just so long will we have need of a medicine which will overcome their pernicious effects, so long will it be necessary lo have a remedy capable of meeting and healing the insidious enemy.
