OLIVE LOOAN lectured at Indianapolis last evening to an immense audience.
ANNA DICKENSON is. "billed" to lecture in Indianapolis on "Mens' Rights."
THE Mayor's Court is item less to-day again. May it ever be so—if there is no occasion for it.
GASOLINE is a very dangerous fluid for the purposes of household illumination. It should be used under no circumstance whatever.
TOUTE'S hand reception at Bowling Hall on the 22d. It will be a magnificent a flair no doubt as that popular hand don't make failures of any kind.
MAUIIIAOK LICKNSUS.—The following is the list of marriage licenses issued during the week ending to-day
Henry Sehockodeny and Louisa Wohrinoyer. Herman Tomboeko and Margaret Nowoomb.
JUST now there is an unusual amount of sickness in the city.—Journal. Can the Journal "show the papers" for that assertion? We have heard of no serious cases since last week, when the editor reported himself in a critical condition.
"WANTED.—From what we observed last evening at the Opera House during the plav, we should judge that two or more energetic and able bodied men might get employment, at good wages, from the Opera House Company, for the express purpose ofsoliciting(in a muscular manner) men to keep their "mud hookers" down oil'the tops of the seats.
JANI'SCIIEK.—If you have not heard this wonderful tragedienne, this is probably your last opportunity. It lias never been the fortune of our city to be honored with such faultless acting as that of last evening, by this unrivalled tragedienne, in the play of Mary Stuart. "We heard a gentleman remark that Mary Stuart herself could not have done better.
CAN'T IT BE STOPPED.—There is a great deal of confusion at the Opera House each evening, occasioned by a crowd of loafers congregating around the doorways of the hall, running up anil down stairand across the floor. The police will take the matter in hand to-night, and we hope there will be an abatement of the nuisance at once, as it is a source of very great annoyance to those inside, who wish to hear what is said.
THE FIREMAN'S BALL.—Turner Hall was crowded last evening upon the occasion ot the first annual ball of the Terre Haute Steam File Department, and a gay and festive time was had by all who were present until the "wee" hours of the morning, when the immense throng repaired to their various homes, and without having sought "nature's sweet rcstorer," entered again upon the duties of the day. Rreinig's baud furnished the music.
StNCft our retail glove dealers have raised the prices of kids, giving the war in Fiance as an excuse therefor, inquiry has developed the fact that no gloves are made in Rouen or Orleans, and Grenoble and the recion around it, where they are made, lnv-Jnot been interfered with. The glove dealers are something like the German beer saloon proprietor in Memphis, who attempted to put his beer up to 10 cents a glass, on the ground that "Der Cherman soldier trinks more peer now as he does at home, unci it makes lager pooty dear]''

NILSSON EN ROUTE!
The Sn ect Songstress Well J! [Knowing the great anxiety of our readers in regard to the coming of Nilsson we sent our "Jenkins" to Cincinnati last night on a "dead head" pass, with orders tQ crowd himself into the Nilsson party t&day on their way to this city, and ordered him to telegraph us fromjevery point, regardless of expense. The follow

CHEEK.
ADAMS, IND., 3:11} P. M.
While stopping at this station a team ran away, supposed to have been scared by an unusual noise proceeding from the rear end of the parlor car. Upon examination^ was found that Signor Brignoli had locked himself in one of the compartments to rehearse "Capt. Jinks," and the unearthly noises caused the catastrophe. No damage except upsetting a Dutch boy with a basket of "saur kraut." CHEEK.
SHELBYVILLE, IND.,. 3:12 P. M. We have barely escaped with our lives. A large "malecow" crossed the track only about two miles in advance of our train, shaking his head in a significant manner. Miss Carey said "let him shake." Yauxteraps seized his fiddle and was about to jump from the tcain, when he was invited to take a drink, and concluded not to jump. CHEEK.
INDIANAPOLIS, 3:20 P. M.
.Just arrived. The Governor and both branches of the Legislature met us at the depot in procession. The Judges of the Supreme Court sent regrets, as they were at a German masquerade last night. Will reach Terre Haute at 10:30 P. M., by the T. H. iiailroad. CHEEK.
JANACSCHEK AS "JVIARV STUART."— A large, highly intelligent and appreciative audience greeted Mile. Janauschek last evening upon her second appearance, and tiie occasion of her personation of Mary Stuart. The audience was composed of the very elite of the city, and as a matter of course was largely composed of ladies. In justice to the renowed tragedienne who called out this grand display of intelligence and consequent appreciation and enthusiasm, we feel that we^aust say that it was the finest audience with which any entertainment, given at the Opera House, has been honored since its grand opening night, upon the accasion of John E. Owens' first appearance. If those who were fortunate enough to he present night before last and witness Janauschek's personation of "Deborah," and went away partially impressed with the idea that they did not hear Janauschek, but "Deborah," and were present last evening, they must have been fully impressed with tiie belief that they had really seen Mary Stuart in the flesh for, if ever Mary Stuart was personated by any one, that one must have been Janauschek.
THE long dialogues of the play must be quite a trial to one just mastering the language, but her elocutionary powers are fully equal to the test, and her acting is at once grand, dramatic and natural. The finely studied action and almost perfect command of emphasis and inflection make us forget the occasional lapses in mere pronunciation.
The long dialogue in the prison with Burleigh was rendered in a most effective manner. And her denunciation of Queen Elizabeth in the garden scene far excelled anything we have ever witnessed of the kiud.
Janauschek's acting, while it well de*serves the designation of high art, and gives evidence of the most patient study, is emphatically genius. She is a tragedienne by nature, and therefore intuitively infuses into her character the inspiration which is only at the command of an artist thus endowed. The flattering encomiums showered upon her by the press of other cities are certainly deserved and were well sustained by her matchless acting of last evening, in the great historic and popular play of "Mary, Queen of Scotts." At the close of the play the audience applauded her in the most enthusiastic manner, in reponse to which she apappeared before the drop curtain as she did the previous evening in response to a similar call, and bowed her thanks in a charming manner.
To-night she will make her third and last appearance at the Opera House in the character of Lady Macbeth, which it is said, she renders in the most faultless manner, upon which occasion let there be such a hout-e as has never greeted any actress who has visited our city, for no one was ever more worthy.
Robinson did a little better in the character of "Mortimer" than he did the evening before in the character of "Joseph," though he is no support for such genius as Janauschek displays in her peerless rendering ot whatever character she personates. "Loictster" was well represented in the person »t" W. H. Leake, as wae ai*o the character of Lord Burleigh, by Mr. R. O. Grierson.
We hope none of our citizens who can appreciate tragedy of the highest order will fail to be at th? Opera House this evening, to see Lady Macbeth—not Janauschek.
MORE AMUSEMENTS COMING.—Messrs. Leake & Dickson, elated with their success of last evening, and the probable success of this evening, have determined to entertain the patronizing public of this city three nightsofnext week, commencing on Thursday, -including Friday and Saturday night and will also give a matinee on Saturday afternoon, at the usual hour of two o'clock. These gentlemen propose to introduce tiie popular Miss Lizzette Bernard, in her comic specialtics, whom the press of Indianapolis complimented in the highest degree. She will be supported by the Academy of Music Company. .•
TERRE HAUTE is the second railroad" city in the State.—Journal. And if you will quit putting such items in your paper as the following, which we find in it this morning: "There appears to be no hope for that Bloomfield Railroad," Terre Haute will soon be the
first railroad city in the State. There is "hope for the Bloomfield railroad," and great hope too. For it is just as certain that it will be built as it is that the editor of the Journal does not know anything about it.
