is not heard from soon, wc will publish his obituary.

WE

are pleased to be able to announce to our citizens that the great Richings' English Opera Troupe will give one of of their incomparable concerts at the Opera House in this city on the evening of the 14th of March. The troupe is now entertaining the citizens of Washington Citv. D. C.

Folice Board have a special meet

ing on Friday of this week, at which time it will be in order to receive bids for the keeping of the new Station House Any and all persons wishing to secure the position of keeper of the new Station House must hand in their bids at that time.

THE funeral of Prof. Cuqua, yesterday afternoon, was largely attended, and the funeral services solemn and impressi%Te. The Haregara Society No. S2, E. O. FI. was out in full force, preceded by Prof. Toute's and Cuqua's bands, making in all twenty two pieces, a just tribute of respect to the remains of a brother musi cian and a genial gentleman.

THE CRIMINAL COURT—Hon. Thomas B. Long'presiding, convened this morning pursuant to yesterday's adjournment, and the case of the Staters. Anna Boyle, charged with grand larceny, was called and is now on trial before a Jury. This is a case which was tried in the same court not long since and the jury failed to agree, and in consequence a new trial was ordered. Davis & Davis for State and Hon. I. N. Pierce for defendant.

PERSONAL. Mr. Elmer B. Cambell, of Erie, Penn., of the Richings Opera Troupe, was in the city last evening making arrangements for the appearance of that popular troupe to give an entertainment at our Opera'House, and fixed upon the 13th of March as the time.

Mr. Will Arnold, assistant postmaster of this city, is visiting at his old home at Richmond, in this State.

J. B. Edmunds, of the Journal, went to Indianapolis last evening. City Attorney Havens and Hon. G. F. Cookerly will go to Indianapolis this aveninff.

THE RING—"DUMMY" VS. THE "CANDY MAN."—A prize-package candy man was located on the corner of Main and Third streets yesterday, engaged in vending his merchandize, in the shape of prize candy packages, "each package containing a prize," as was understood by a deaf and dumb man who made an investment but after a diligent search failed to find anything in the way of good old Democratic money, at which he commenced a series of gestures that looked very much like terminating in the candy man getting a "french roof over his eye" which was prevented at that time by the candy man writing on a slate that he would give him a dollar if he would go away, which liberal offer "dummy" accepted with a grin of satisfaction. Having the spondulix, however, he went away and invested it in benzine and returned and wanted another dollar, which the candy man began to see meant bankruptcy or resisistance, so wrote on the slate that he would give him no more, whereupon "dummy" commenced a series of gestures which resulted in the candy man's standing on his head in the box whereon he had just been standing, and an outside party, having on a long-tailed coat interfering for the purpose^of interpreting "dummy" without so much of the forcible gesturing, which had been attended with such tragic results in the case of the candy man. Dummy then went for the third party, who like the Arab, "folded liis tent and silently stole way," but was followed by "dummy" who was intent on elevating his pedal extremities to an angle of forty-five degrees. No. 3 made good time until finally becoming intangled in the caudel extention of his great coat was forced to halt when "dummy" handed him one just under the left eye, which elevated his visual organ skyward in a twinkling, and elevated his heels in the same direction at the same time. "Dummy" succeeded in taking deliberate aim and planted a No. 13 boot about half way down his great coat, directly in his rear.

By this time about two hundred spectators had gathered around and were enjoying the sport hugely, when Chief of Police Crowe came up and arrested the "dummy" and gave him a hearing before Mayor Cookerly, where three or four other "dummy's were interested as witnesses^ one Thos. Deming acting as interpreter. The scene in the court-room was said to have been decidedly funny. The trial resultedin "dummy" being fined §7, which little bill he could not liquidate, but which his victim, the candy man, paid) rather than see him imprisoned, which was very kind of that gentieman.

A CHICAGOAN COMES TO GRIEF.—An impecunious cuss, who gives his name as John Burns, and his station as Chicago, having incorporated near about two quarts of Terro Haute benzine into his worthless carcass, became "temporarily insane" and indulged in a disturbance to an extent that was fearful, all along Main street, and finaily went into the Restaurant under T. II. Riddle's store, where he succceded in knocking over tables, chairs, etc., at the same time spitting out "cuss words" with an energy and ability worthy a better cause, until Officer Yandever put in an appearance and kindly voluteercd to accompany him to the new Station House and extend to him the hospitalities of the city, doing as he proposed. Upon reaching the building Yandever undertook to open the door with one hand and hold him with the other, whereupon he went for "Ed," striking him a heavy blow on the breast, when he received a "gentle tap of the billy" over his brow, which settled him.in the most effectual manner. This morning Burns was ushered into the presence of the Mayor, who fined and costed him in the sum of$S, which little sum not bein about his clothes he was sent back to board it out.

TOM. WALKER AGAIN ON THE RAM RAGE.—Yesterday an old customer of Mayor Cookerly's, named Tom. Walker, and supposed to be a member of the firm of "The Devil and Tom. Walker," having indulged too freely in that which "maketh a man a fool," undertook to administer to his divorced wife a sound thrashing, and raising a muss generally, but was prevented from further muscular display by Constable Kaufman, who arrested Tom and took him before Justice Smith, which resulted in histast ing justice to the extent of $17.35, fine and costs, which he stayed.]

Last evening Tom again got under the influence of bad whisky, and the first member of the firm give above, and went for his divorced wife again with the intention of finishing up the forenoon's pastime of whipping her, and in which he was interfered with by Constable Kaufman In this he was foiled by Officer Wolfe extending to him the hospitalities of the city at the Station House, where he languished until this morning, when he had a hearing before Mayor Cookerly, who fiued and costed him in the sum of $7.

MATRIMONIAL.—TheEpiscopalChurch was filled last evening 'with the friends of Demas Deming, Esq., and Miss Mary Floyd, to witness the marriage of that genial gentleman and mostaccomplished and beautiful lady. The Rev. Dr. Austin, Rector of the Episcopal Church of this city, officiated and pronounced the beautiful and impressing marriage ceremony of the Episcopal Church, with his accustomed ease and grace, at the close of which the happy couple and friends repaired to the residence of Mr. Jacob H. Ilager, where a splendid reception was given and at 10 o'clock the happy bride and groom started on their bridal tour to the South. May their lives ever be as happy as now, is the wish of their numerous friends.

"TRICKS THAT WERE VATX."—A couple of young men in this city, who rumors says, have been courting the same irl for some time, and who are addicted to gambling, "just forjfun, you know," agreed to have a little game "which it was euclire," to decide which should withdraw from the contest. They played, but the fair damsel heard of the affair, and was much grieved thereat and found relief in indignation, which resulted in their both being "played out" with her.
