lohrudsky, business manager of the Russian Concert Troupe, which has recently been entertaining the citizens of Indianapolis so successfully, is in this city per!'ec:ing arrangements to give two grand concerts at the Opera House on the 17th and 18th inst., of which due notice will be given through the advertisement columns of tho city papers.

Col. R. II. Stewart arrived home from Jefiersonvillc last evening, having safely disposed of the candidates for prison honors whom he started with. He informs us that an effort is now being made to get Will Ilodiiy and another minor named Stewart out of the prison and into tiie House of Refuge at Plainfield, with a fair prospect of success. He also informs us that all the women now incarcerated in the Southern Penitentiary are to betaken therefrom and placed in the House of Refuge for women at Indianapolis as soon as that building is completed.

first appearance, and the audience proved to be a very enthusiastic and appreciative one.

This afternoon a matinee is in progress at which there is a fair audience in attendance, the prices being very much reduced. To-night is the last appearance of the Ilibernicon in this city, upon which occasion many new changes in the programme will be made, the whole performance to close with the laughable farce of "The Haunted Guide or, Barney and the Ghost."

The lecture at Asbury Church by Col. R. W. Thompson on the "Cause and Progress of intideli'y" last evening was largely attended and the lecture a most admirable exposition of this great evil which curses the world of mankind. The lecturer charged the origin of infidelity to Catholicism and in a most masterly manner establised his position to :he evident satisfiction of all present. He then, in his own indescriable style, reviewed the progress of the evil, riveting the closet attention of his audience to the conclusion of his masterly effort, rt was withall a lecture well worthy the distinguished gentleman who delivered it.

AN individu '.1, who pretends to hail from Indianapolis,

has been rushing frantically

arouud Terre Haute in search of a mission wife. Wo are inclined to think the man in til poster, for the all sufficient reason ihat wives in this well resrulated city don't turn up missing in that kind of style, and iI they did, -such runaways are not in demand at Terre Haute.—Indianapolis Jour nal.

The Journal's belief that the man referred to is au imposter is concurred in by the people of this city, on the ground that all those who come here from that city upon such errands areiniposters, and we agree with the Journal, thatsuch runaways and imposters are not "in demand" here, and we would advise them to re* main away, or Judge Long will award fcbem a term in Jetlersonville.

We witnessed a •Ci'iie of this kind yesterday along side o! Rvce's dry goods store. A young man was passing along Sixth street, as a good quiet law-abiding citizen, though he was gawking around him in a manner that betrayed him to be but little posted in "ways that are dark," when lie was violently precipitated into a coal pit, by a horse pulling back and drawing the grate with him. The young man. looking very niu -h abashed at his awkward predicament issued forth Irorn what lie rather appropriately termed the "bottomless pit," and limped away muttering—a prayer—no doubt. This scene we witnessed, and notlong since we heard of a lady falling through a similar grate. Therefore, "we wish to remark and our language is plain," that this nuisance must be abated.
