THE IIIBLKNICON—The famous original MacEvoy Hibernicon, under the able management of Mr. Chas. E. MacEvoy, put in an appearance at Dowling Hail last evening for a reason of three e^e-nin-s. Tiie Hall was densely packed with a highly appreciative audience of ladies and gentlemen, who demonstrated theic apprtciation of the exhibition many enthusiastic outbursts ot applause, as they would be permitted to gaze uii •ome beatiful, and to some, familial scenes in "ou'ld Ireland," in the course ol of the evening's entertainment.

The Hibernicon con -l-ts of panoramic views of some of tiie beautiful country scenes in which Ireland abounds, and for which sliei- famed in history. Many street scenes in Dublin, Limerick, Cork and other large cities of Ireland were exhibited on canvass, the whole being explained by Mr. Chas. MacEvoy, in hiown inimitable way. The interest of the scenery is intensely heightened and improved by the accompaniment ot a connc drama, in which.Barney, the guide, (Mr.

Lawior), Mi-s Nora, his sweet-heart, (Miss MacEvoy), and No rah's mother, (Miss Ilalpine), were the characters, and as a matter of COM HO, JII~ ney falls in love villi Miss Norah, (which di.-plays his good taste), wine: the '-owld woman," the mo her o! No rah., objects to, and gives Barney a ".slight touch of a bit ot a shelalah," which salute Barney remembers in appreciative spirit. Through nearly every scene Barnej and Noraii "put in an apprarance" except one, where Barney captivated by a heartless young widow but with commendable good sen-e he "returns to his first love," an both are finally made happy. Th comic acting, and exhibition of scenery is interspersed with music, both instrumental and vocal in which Miss ivEacIv* ov and Mr. Lawior distinguish themselves and create much enthusiasm. Mr. Chas.

MacEvoy favored the audience with a violin solo, with imitations of a bagpipe, which was a grand success, and was rapturously applauded.

The entire exhibition and performance is of the highest order, and merited the large house which greeted its fir.-tap-pearance at the hail, and should insure for it a crowded hou-e upon this and tomorrow evening. There will be a change in the musical programme each evening of the entertainment. Don't fail to go.

NII^SON.—The following communication isjjLfst received from the General A-ent of the Nilsson Concert troupe, by

mail: BURNETT IIOU.SK, CINT'INXATT. 0.,1 January 30,1871. Jfr.ssrs. Loclcc & IVcuns'cy,

GUSTLKKKS: I regret much to state t!i it Miie. Nils»on is very sick, and eonlined to her room", therefore unable to sin^ in Term Haute the dale announced. I Ii ive a telegram from Mr. O. E. iloslord, Secretarv of

1

he Opera House Association,

with vacant, dates," one of which dates we will take lor the concert when Mile. Nilsson recovers lully "»ul is able rosin

Very Respectfully, J. C. FP.uvei

General Agent 2s its.son Concert.

We submit the above for the encouragement of those of our citizens who hold Nilsson tickets. But few tickets have been returned so far, which goea to prove that the patience of the people of Torre Haute is unbounded, and that when they want to attend a first-class entertainment, the high price of tickets and the repeated failure of the artistes to appear, cannot dampen their ardor to the degree of making them give up in despair and demand that their money be refunded. On the occasion of the first disappointment, after tickets were sold, we understand that there was about five hundred dollars refunded to parties holding tickets, but upon this last disappointment, only about one hundred and twenty-five dollars have been refunded. It will be an outrage on tills community and on our neighboring communities if Manager Strackosch should disappoint, us by not filling his engagement at all but we don't expect such bad faith on iiia part when there has been such a display of faithfulness on the part of our citizens and neighbors. It is not reasonable that we should. We yet believe that no consideration other than the physical indisposition of Mile. Nilsson, or some other of the troupe, will prevent Manager fetrliko-ch from making good his engagement at Terre Haute at the earliest practicable day.

SUFAIT AND PILI.OW CASE PARTIES are creating oiuite a sensation in some ctties, and for the information of those of our citizens who may wish to give such an entertainment, we give bgjow a description of the costume3 which we clip from one of our exchanges The uniform for ladies consisted of a pair of white stockings drawn over their shoes, a night-gown over their dresses, a white sheet thrown over their shoulders shawl fashion, white gloves on their hands, a white handkerchief tied tooth-ache fashion, around their heads, a pink cambric mask over the face, and a pillow-case tied over their heads, in tiie same manner in which housewives tie handkerchiefs over their top-pieces while sweeping a dusty room. The costumes of the gentlemen are similar to the above, with the exception of white shirts instead of nightgowns, and addition, in some instances, of mtadrawn over the pantaloons. Now, some of our novelty loving people give such an entertainment here?
