THE Indianapolis papers of this morning make a sensation oyer the remains of a man found in the woods about six miles from the city, with nearly all the llesh eaten from the bones by the hogs. The mill burned is at Hamilton, Ohio, and was one of the finest in the West, valued at about SSO,GOO. It was no doubt fully insured, and will be rebuilt at once. -A PORTION o7thcTv\t!mri^

A vagrant, who gave his name r.s James Murphy, in wandering about the streets !at night, indiscreetly and apparently ignorantly, wondered una stairway into a room occupied by some ladies and children, who were much aHrightcd-tit the unpresentable appearince of the wanderer, and vented their surprise and consternation "in a manner quite frightful to hear." "Jim" soon discovered that lie was in the wrong paw but the first thing he knew, Ofik-er Vandever descended upon him "like the wolf on the fold" and placed him in the right pew, where he reclined until this morning, when Justice Smith told him, if h.e would "git" by Monday, lie might go. He had kolUrgit.

A representative of old. Putnam county, giving bis name as George Wood, and iiis station as Greencastle, surrounded .wo or three quarts of benzine, sonietinn a.-t night, which entirely surrounded ni with an innumerable host .maginary devils, which tempted him to drive Lis team about the streets until hree o'clock this morning, the while yelling like a Conunehe Indian, unti Olllcer Vandever "went for him in away hat was peculiar," and conveyed him to the lock-r.p,- where he remained until

morning', when he was ushered into •he presence of his majesty, Justice Smith, who fined him tfT.o'i, which he pa id and was discharged.

The next victim was one David Fortune, who got drunk as usual, and had the misfortune to fall into the hands oi Olliccr Vandever who put him in jail until (his morning when he wa: taken itefore Justice Smith, who lined him 87.oO, which he paid and meandered.

Thomas Mulhall, having walked around too much of that which "sparkles the cup" last evening, became very uoisy, ami was overhauled by Chief ol Poiieo Crowe, who "iit on" him in a iwinkiing, and gave him a "bunk" in .he "tombs," from whence he was resurrected tins morning and tasted municipal justice as administered by Zenas Smith, Esq., to the tune of S7.f 0, which ho paid.

Marshal Whiteman is now on active duty. This morning he brought, the first prisoner from the jail to the Mayor's office for live or six week-1.

ATTE^irTED BURGLARY.—Yesterday morning, sometime before day, burglars made an attempt to edect an entrance into the residence of Mayor Cookerly, on the Bioomingtoii road, with a skeleton key, but owing to the door being bolted securely on the inside, they were frustrated in their intentions and left the premises in disgust, leaving one of their skeleton keys on the door step.

This morning, about half-past three o'clock they returned again and made another attempt to efi'ect an entrance, with the same success as the morning before. They probably made their second appearance to search for the kev.

The audacity of these midnight prowlers is without a parallel in our history as a city. Just think of it! Attempting to burglarize the premises of our Mayor, and as we recently reported, the Chief oi Police. If that ain't "bearding the lion in his den" we should like to know 'lie reason why.

UP.' —Early this morning, as we were coming to our sanctum, we noticed a very amusing spec-tacie on the corner of Sixth and Main. An old gentleman from the country, was leaning up against the corner of the building occupied by Ludowici's boot and shoe store, in a state of semi-unconscious bliss, with a No. 11 cowhide shoe, which looked as though it had been in the service since 1S60, elevated upon a box with an industrious "street Arab" working away with might and main, essaying to convert each shoe into a mirror in which the old country gentleman might see "how he come so." We waited some fifteen minutes near by» to see if the boy wouldn't have to take the shoes for pay, stud then hire a dray to take them home but the "Arab" had so "large a contract we could not wait. The boy has not been seen since.

A CORRECTION.—We were in error when we stated yesterday evening that Capt. Potter had withdrawn his subscription from tire Express and published his communication of yesterday morning in the Journal, because of that paper having admitted an article from Col.
