Xi LSSOX.—We are requested by Mr. Pa rod i, to say that persons holding reserved seats to the Kilsson concert, can retain the same, as there will be no changes made.
PAIXEPE ACCIDENT.—A little son of Fritz P.iersdorf, in returning home from school yesterday, fell down and broke one of his legs. He is doing well and nothing very serious is likely to result.
AxoTiircn BrKGijAKY. Last night sometime, burglars eliected an entrance through the back window of the grocery store of Ichabod Oilman, on South Third street, and succeeded in carrying away a large quantity of sugar, codec, tea, ctc., and making good their escape.
MATRIMONIAL.—In the Cincinnati papers we find announcement of the marriage of Mattio P). Fouke, formerly of this city, daughter of Hon. P. P. Fouke, to Mr. James R. Hastings. The interesting event occurred on the 12ih inst., at New Orleans, of which city the parties are all residents.
WE were shown a new and most beat:-: tiful balcony siCer.o a!: the Opera House last evening, recently painted by Mr. Piggott, the scenic artist, expressly for the Nilsson concert. It is indiseribabiy ricli and beautiful, and reflects great credit upon the distinguished gentleman who executed it.
TKKKK llArri is frightened terribly at the bold atrocities of a swarm of burgiar.i who infest that goodly place.
They ransack houses, frighten women, retail chosts without price, and even pay their nightly compliment to the Chief oi Police so genteelly and quietly that that functionary is not aware of their presence until they'have retired, taking with them some token more or less valuable, to keep alive the recollection of tho visit.—Suliiran Democrat.
Our Chief of Police and a couple of his "pals" returned their call a few nights since, to the sorrow of the called. There are several others that will receive a call at no distant day.
AEEEGED LAKCKXY.
Yesterday, a
man, whose name we could not learn, stole a suit of clothes from a gentleman on the E. &. C. R. R., bound for Rockviile, and was arrested by the conductor and placed in the hands of the authorities of that city, who tried him on the charge, but owing to some flaw in the papers, he was not found guilty and was discharged from custody, whereupon he left for parts unknown, with the suit of clothes, and the places that once knew them now know them no more."

10 o'clock, an engineer, whose

Academy of Music, by some unknown party striking him with a brick-bat, on the head, cutting the scalp in a shocking manner. There is something very mys
con uected with the affair and the
sudden disappearance of the assaulting par.y. It appears that lie was only seen by one person who cannot tell who it was or describe Irm. The injured man will recover. Moral: "Dou'c go there, boys."
THE ENGINEERS' BALL —OI all the entertainments given in this city this season in the way of balls, that given last evening at' Beach's Hall, under the auspices of the Brotherhood of Locomoive Engineers, was the most successful and enjoyable, and reflects the highest rod it upon those who managed it. Tins pleasant affair was the source of the most pleasurable enjoyment to those v* ho were so fortunate as to be present aii'i participate iu the interesting exercises of the
evening. As early as 10 o'clock one hundred and fifty couples had gathered in Beach's beautiful and commodious hall, who enjoyed themselves "whirling away in the mazy dance" until midnight, when supper was announced, when a general rush was made for tiie dining hall of the National, which was tilled full of tables that were loaded down with the most substantial and cho ce delicacies of the season, and were presided over by fair and accommodating iadies who ministered to the wants of the throng of guests that passed into the hail, to the number of one hundred and and thirty, in a manner that was highly appreciated.
The supper was first-class in every res-poet ai.d reflected great honor upon the Messrs. Butz, who got it up for the occasion. Wines of the finest brand.i were furnished by lieury Atifterhider, in was said, by those who partook, to be the best the market affords. (We did'nt sample it.J After supper, the lancing was resumed and continued, until about live o'clock this morning, when the weary dancers returned LO their many homes, evidently much pleased with the night's entertainment and fully impressed with the fact th-'t the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers give the ovnt -ticcessful balls tnat are given this city.
Proi. out's Quadrille Band furnished the music, which they did in a manner acceptable.to all present, and added fresh laurels to those already achieved wherever they have performed, whether at home or abroad. In fact, too much credit cannot be awarded the musicians for the success of the evening's entertainment
Besides those of our own city who were present, there was quite a number of ladies andgentiemen from Indianapolis, St. Louis, Evansville and other cities and towns on the various roads leading to this city.
We think wc speak the sentiments of all those who were present when we say that the whole aflair was an unqualified success, and as the mind reverts back to the fourth annual ball of Terre Haute Division No. 2-3 Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers may each and we say every one of this noble society live long and pro 'per. A ml as the years roll on may they favor our beautiful and prosperous city with many -such pleasant entertainments as that last evening.
ACADEMY alias "SINK HOLE."—We icnrn that the "Dead Beat" who runs the Fifth street "bagnio" or dance house, gives us a touch ia his programme of yesterday. We want no controversy with him, for like the "spotted animal" he is dangerous. We done their printing until wo refused to doit longer unless cach order was aecouipanicd by the money, and after it was taken from this office, the thing in human shape, who says he Iun run "sink-holes" for fifteen years, came and wanted us to take his work back again, and we refused then to have anything to do with it.
Under the former management this concern was run in a decent manner. Mr. Schoolcraft was a gentleman, and refused to put the can-can on the stage, but it was left for this thing to disgrace our city, and nightly may be seen at that temple sights that would disgu-t even the greatest loafer in town. There may bo some respectable people connected with the concern, but we do know that there are many loafers hanging around it, and we know further that one of the performers is languishing in jail for burglary, and we think he has made a good change, as far as respectability is concerned, for there he comes in contact with some decent people.
This company consists of a lot of "bro-ken-down" and "played-out" actors from tlie Race Street Varieties of Cincinnati, and if our citizens want to go and see them, it is none of our concern. He advises his brother professionals not to patronize us. Wo say to any man who claims (his thing as a "professional," that we don't want their work. We have had "dead beats" enough already, and we should be very suspicious of any one who recognized this thing as anything else than a loafer. Now, Mr. Berry, this is only a foretaste of wiiat you may expect. Wo are opposed do .suc/i shows, and shall not hesitate to show you up every day, if necessary.
THE McEvoy's Kibernicon which appears in this city at Dowiing Hall foi' three nights, commencing January o0, is thus spoken of by the Louisville Commercial:
McEvoy's Ilioernieon was exhibited to a crowded house last night. Every seat in the house, up and down stairs, was occupied, and a large number were standing up at the rear of the house. The panorama of Ireland is illustrated and made doubly interesting by Mr. Law lor, the Irish comedian, who appears as Barney, the Guide, and gives his audience songs and dances and Irish sketches of the most amusing character." lie is assisted by Miss trie lulion AIcEvoy, a pleasing vocalist, ami Miss Kate 11/dpine. The entertainment last night pleased the audience in every respect. Hearty laughter and applause greeted Barney in all his characters. Ireland, in the Hibernieon, can be seen every night this week.
Iu behaif of Charles McEvoy, proprietor of the Hibernieon, and for the information of our citizens, we will state that he is in no way connected with the McAvoy combination which so recently afflicted this city, and wh ch has -since colapsed at Crowfordsviile, for the want of patronage, but that he has the original Hibernieon to exhibit, which has been successfully before the public for the past 21 years.
THIS establishment docs not have any more printing done at or advertise in the rj-\v.s.--rTE.

CHRISTIAN CIIAPHL.—A protracted meeting is in progress, conducted by the Pastor, n. B. Tyler, which is growing in interest from evening to evening. It is not a revival meeting in the current sense, but one in which the gospel is preaehed—and that in a plain manner— the scriptures are expounded, and men exhorted to forsake their sins. Preaching again this evening at seven o'clock. Subject: "It is a fearful thing to fall into tlie hands of the living God." An invitation to be present is extended to all.
