DANGEROUS.—We had a call from Jake Berry, the proprietor of the Fifth street nuisance, called the Academy of Music, last evening. He came with "blood in his eye," but left without doing any one personal violence. "Don'tscare worth a cent," tlo they, Jake?

MARINE.—We learn that our Street 'Commissioner is building a craft to be called "The Mixed," and is intended to sail in ponds and puddles. The craft will be launched at the corner of Sixth and Poplar streets this afternoon, and will be useful to pedestrians who may wish to make a crossing.

THE Glass works are in a prosperous condition, sixteen first-class "blowers" being constantly employed in manufacturing bottles of the vei*y best quality, at the rate of sixty gross per day. The company is having large shipments of wares to various points with a constantly increasing demand.

SCALDED.—A little daughter of Mr. Gaughlen, who resides on Fourth street, was severely scalded yesterday morning by running against a tub of boiling liot soap-suds in the hands of its mother. The presence of mind of the mother and neighbors saved the victim of this painful accident from a terrible death, by judicious application of molasses and flour to the scalded parts. The child is now doing as well as could be expected, «iud »*H1 recover.

NILSSON.—The enthusiasm manifested Ijy the citizens of Indianapolis r.iul surrounding towns and citie?, in their rush for seats at the Academy ofilti occasion of tiie grand Nilssnn concert in thatcil Moin.1^ evening, isundouutedly •vithout a parallel in the iii.itory ol Indianapolis, 011 a similar occasion. And Vr-e lake it that this enthusiasm will he equalled, if not excelled by the grand ru.-h for seats in our own temple of music to-morrow morning, to secure seats to hear the same peerless "Swedish Nightengale" next Tuesday evening.

We give below items that we ci from the Indianapolis papers of this morning to substantiate what we have said above: "Promptly at 9 o'clock yesterday lr.ornimr, the store of Uenham Bros., \vas_ liilecl with a thronjr eager to secure the pick ol seats l'or the Xilsson concert Monday evening. Notwithstanding the price, box seats were in the highest demand, a-m according to the "first come, »irst served" rule, all were taken up nearly as last as the tickets couhl b* passed out and change made. The remainder of the crowd, which received constant accessions, had, per l'oreo, to be content with.the parquette and dress cireie, ana tiiO Inr^o nwijority of clioico &euls 111

In addition to the rush at the music store, a Jarire number of telegrams' for reserve seats'were received from nearly all rhe towns of note on every railroad lending from the city. It now seems unfortunate that the hall could not have been obtained .'or two eveninvs at least, as present appearances indicate that many, both

iicl. The sale of se^ts will commence at Dartlett & Co.'s book store, 101 Main street, to-morrow at 0 A. M. Seats will be sold for one, two, three and four dolars, according to location. Go early and •'.ccuie your scat.

OCT OP SEASON.—Last evening, as we silently and pensively wended our way up Main street, and when nearingthe well known establishment of T. 31. Riddle, our attention was attracted to a group of four unsophisticated and untutored specimens of the genus, homo, evidently hailing from the rural regions of old Sullivan, who were vainly endeavoring to diseiplier the "hand writing on the wall" (we mean the basement wall) of that building, which reads "Restaurant" to an experienced eye. Finally one of the group remarked: "Bill, what'n thunder do ycr think they keep thar?" Bill responded that he'd "be darned if he knowed." The interesting group then made several more inellectual attempts to discover the import of the paint, which th .y observed spread so profusely on the sign board and gaslight, which was followed by au exclamation

from

one of their number that he'd "be doggoned if-lie believed they kept anything there." At this juncture a gentleman

the young bare-footed Sullivanites "blubbering out," "Say, mister, can't you t.©ll us where we can find an ice cream saloon?" The gentleman very aptly and promptly responded: "My friends, I think you are little out of season." The last seen of the young men they were mournfully meandering about our streets, inquiring the road to Sullivan.

PERSONAL.—Put. Shannon has returned home from Indianapolis. Marshal Whiteman was out in town yesterday, for the first time since his recent severe attack of erysipelas.

Dr. W. II. Harper, of Lima, Ohio, the father of our talented and courteous young friend Tom Harper, of the firm of Joab & Harper, attorneys, of this place, is visiting in the city.

Mr. W. I). Wharton, agent of the Indianapolis daily Journal., is at the National.

Mr. 1). X. Foster, of the firm of Foster & Bros., has arrived home from Evan :-. vllle, where he has been busily engaged for several days, looking up the business interests of that city, with a view of locating a branch of their large dry goods establishment in that city. Mr. Foster, after prospecting several days in that city, concluded to occupy tlie building belonging to Thomas Scantlin & Son, No. 05 Main street, and rented it accordingly, which, when improved as designed will be 20 by 150 feet. We congratulate the citizens of Evnnsville and surrounding country, upon this valuable accession to their business interests.

THE Criminal Court, Hon. T. B.Long, presiding, convened yesterday afternoon and several prisoners were arraigned before the Court, charged with various offenses, all of1 whom plead "not guilty."

The case of the State vs. John Reese, charged with the larceny of a coat and pair of pants from a gentleman residing at Shelburne, in this county, of which mention was made in the GAZETTEsome two weeks since, was then called and tried by jury, which resulted in the accused being awarded a term of two years at Jeflersonville.

The court then adjourned until this morning, when the case of the State vs. Francis Owens, charged with horse racing, was called and tried by jury, which resulted in the defendant being fined five dollars.

The case of the State vs. Sim Woolen, charged with the larceny of some cigars^ was then called and tried by a jury, which, after hearing the evidence and argument of S. C. Davis, Esq., for the State, atid Col. J. P. Baird, for the defense, retired to their room, and after.a few minutes deliberation, acquitted the accused,

WE hoar it stated that a large number of our citizens will go np to Terre Haute next Tuesday, to hear Nilsson, who sings there ou that evening.—Evansville Courier.

Come on neighbors, we have ample accommodations for you in our new and magnificent Opera House upon any ordinary occasions but this will be an extraordinary one, and we may be pressed for accommodations for our genial and courteous Neighbors. But come along, and we will take especial pains to furnish you all with a comfortable seat, there being no other kind in the Opera House.

To the Editor of Terra Haute Gazette: Your suggestion that au association should be formed to purchase the "Acad-

ic, 011 the emy of Music," in order to rid our city of the baneful influence it is exerting, is a o-ood one. I will gladiv contribute ?2o towards its purchase. No better investment could be made by the lathers apd the mothers of Tarre Haute, who have sons to be ruined by this institution.
