A GREAT OFFER.

The Proprietors of "Old and New," in order to all'ord the people an opportunity of becoming fully acquainted with the character and sterling value of the hightoned articles which, in less tbon one year's time, have placed this popular Monthly in the front rank of American Magazines, and-made it what the proprietors have always claimed, "The People'sMagazine," make the following very liberal oiler: On receipt of §1, Old and New" will be sent to any address in the United States for four months, on a trial subscription. Subscriptions should be addressed to Geo. A. Coolridge, business agent, care of Roberts Brothers, Publishers, 143 Washington street, Boston.

PERSONAL.—Judge

D. Hitchcox, President, and Dr. T. W. Sylvester, Vice President, of the Paris & Decatur Railroad, were in the ciiy yesterday.

Thomas H. Burr, Esq., left this city, last evening for Michigan, to take magnetic treatment for his health.

Mr. Thomas Taylor, of New York, Nilssou's agent Mr. John E. Simpson, Superintendent of the Terre Haute & Indianapolis Railroad Col. A. B. Crane, of New York, formerly of this city, and Mr. Joseph Collett, President of the Evansviile, Terre Haute & Chicago Railroad were at the Terre Haute House this morning.

Mr. James Tarrencc, of Newport, and Auditor of Vermillion county Hon. Henry White, representative to the General Assembly from the same place Mr. N. G. ButF, late Republican candidate for Prosecuting Attorney, Capt. John Haney, of Clinton, formerly of this city, Gen. White, Revenue Collector for this District, and Major Stephenson, Sheriff of Vermillion county were at the National last night.

Mr. W. S. Roose, formerly clerk at the Buntin House, has accepted a position as clerk at the Terre Haute House, and would wish to see his numerous friends and acquaintances there.

A NEW RAILROAD.—Some of our citizens, interested in railroad enterprises, were interviewed yesterday by Mr. D. Hitchcock and Dr. W. T. Sylvester, of Areola, Ills., President and Vice President of the Paris & Decatur Railroad, in regard to the extension of the road to this city by forming a junction with the St. Louis, Vandalia & Terre Haute, thus making the entire distance between this city and Dccatur 87 miles by rail, there being but 12 miles of road to construct to connect Paris and this city. From Paris to Decatur the distance is 72 miles. A large portion of the track is now graded and the remainder is under contract and is to be completed by the 1st of June next. Messrs. Hitchcock and Sylvester started for the East last evening, where they go sor the purpose of purchasing rails. This is a worthy enterprise, and well worthy the earnest consideration of our capitalists and public-spirited citizens.

MARRIED.

WELLS—MrLANR.—A11 lie residen oe of John Mc Lane, ]•(]., near Union Mills, on Tnursday, Sth inst., by ltev. K. M. PJlliot-t-, Mr. Theodore H, We'ls and Miss Lizzie McLane, all of that locality.

We wish our excellent friend Theodore and his beautiful bride all the happiness and joy in their married life that can possibly be vouchsafed them. May good fortune attend him and his, ever is our prayer.--La JWe {fnd.) Herald

We hall never forget "Tiled,' for like ourself he belonged to "Capt. Sherman's company," in his little excursion through Georgia and the Carolinas, and we can only say that if he makes as good a husband as he did a soldier, LIZZIE will never have cause to regret her choice and as for the bride, she has doubtless forgotten all about sliding down hill on a hand-sled with the writer, but then let by-gones be by gones, and we will only add, that they have our best wishes for their future happiness, "and may they livelong and prosper,"—long enough at least to rock their childrens' grand-child-divn,

LARCENY.—A man, giving his name as Oliver C. Perry, aud hailing from Prairieton, was arrested last night about ten o'clock by Officer W'olf, assisted by Officer Erney, charged with the larceny of $27 in money and a revolver, from a woman named Lauria Jones, residing in this city. The officers found him secreted in the closet of a house on Third street, and closcted him in jail, from whence he was taken this morning before 'Squire Zenas Smith, who fixed his Wail at $200, in default of which he was remanded to jail, to await the action of the Grand Jury, which is now in session, and it is not likely that Oliver will be long in suspense before he knows what that body thinks of his case.

TIIE Sacred Concert to be given under the auspices of Asbury Church, and conducted by Prof. O'Kane, of Ohio, will take place to-night at Asbury Church. Tickets can he had at Bartlett & Co.'s book store, ana W. II. Page & Co.'s music store, corner Main and Sixth street. Let the house be crowded upon this interesting occasion, for we can assure all who attend, a pleasurable entertain* meiit.

Patterson, Judge

ACCUSED OP LARCENY.—John Casey, NEW styles who resides on north Fourth street, was Arnold s. .3 arrested by Officer Wolf,'this morning, MORE new Furs at Ilers & Arnold's, charged with robbing one McCaray of $3 in money, and a silver watch valued at $10. The accused was taken before Justice Smith, who, after a hearing of the case, discharged him, as the charge could not be subtantiated. It appears that both the parties were drunk, and that neither of them ever owned a watch, or ever had $3 in money at one time, and further, that when the officer went ta arrest Casey, he found him in bed drunk.-
