CITY FINANCES.—Cash on hand, -January 1st, 1871, £4,004.G7. The city treasurer thinks we will be out of debt by spring.

THE HE are two reasons why some people don't mind their own business. Onef is, they have no business, and the other is they have no mind.

ARISTOCRATIC drunks were the order of the day yesterday. We may add that, there were a great many "dead beat" drunks also.

THERE will be interesting services at Asbury and Centencry M. E. Churches each evening tin's week. All are respectfully invited to attend.

IT is reported that we are to have the great, polygansist, Brigham Young, to lecture in this city, some fimo this season. There is no deJinite arrangement to that effect, however.

LAU(. I:NV.—John IV.air, a clerk in the employ pf Foster & Bros., of this city, was arretted by Onicer WoU'e yesterday, charged with the larceny of as of furs, two dress patterns and a setof joweirv from his employers, lie was committed to jail, and the case is being investigated by the Grand Jury. v-

ANOTHER ONH.—John Burgess WAS arrested by Officer Wolfe, charged with the larceny of abjufc twenty bushels of coal from Mes.-rs. Morgan & Eider. He had a preliminary examination before Mayor Cookerly, who fixed his bail at $200, which he gave, and was discharged from custody.

MACAKTJIY'SMinstrel troupe, which liss been making a tour of the Southern States, will bo at the Opera House in this city on the 0th and 10th of this month—Monday and Tuesday. We give below a very excellent notice or their performance at Louisville, taken from the columns of the Louisville Courier' Journal: "The Minstrels.—Miseyer Hall was crowded la evening to its utmost capacity with the elite and fashion to witness the second performance of Maeaithy's Minstrels, and these minstrels are among the best. They are negro iustrels of a relined order, more so tnan any we have overseen. Most troops of this sort are minstrels but in name—they blagk their faces, sing stimulated songs, and crack worn-out jokes, of which a negro could not be capable, and which a negro would not dream, of perpetrating, so far as that honor goes of being bona fide negro minstrel-, this troupe may fairly lay claim to being the best. Macarthy himself is a comedian of no mean order. His rapid changes of character, four in number, were quite wonderful, while his banjo solo was of an excellent and most laughable character. Yv'e may confidently say that he is the most versatile actor that has yet visited this city. The audience was kept in the best of humor by his inimitable and beautiful performances. Every member of this company is a star artist in his peculiar [.•art. Billy Diamond is a broad-wit himself, and exceedingly funny in his specialities. C. Lindsey Davis, i^ a successful dispenser oi' Uie only remedy for the blues. The voeaiism of Sam. (iardner,

Jno. Slout are! the great Quartette, is far superior to that usually found in cork opera, and will win this company a world-wide reputation. The songs and dances by those artistic artists, Messrs. Mack in & Sullivan, is equaled but by few and excelled by none. They are also very good in their double statue clog. The instrumental part led by Ckis. Cfebert is lirst-c'ass. This afternoon this troupe gives a matinee and another performance this evening. It may bo added that we noticed none of those allusions so common in these sort of entertainments that put them out of the pale of respectable amusements. The whole thing is conducted with quite remarkable originality propriety."

Tina COURTS.—The Common Pleas Court, Hon. John T. Scott presiding, adjourned Saturday evening at the close of the argument of Hon. YV'iiiiam Mack, in the Taibort-St. Agnes Hall case, until this morning, when tiie case was re

sumed

by the arguments of counsel, and

is yet undecided. The Criminal Court, Hon. Thoni::s B. Long presiding, convened Monday morning. His Honor instructed the Grand Jury, when that body immediately proceeded to the business in hand.

The case of the State of Indiana vs. Wier McGee, charged with carrying concealed

weapons,

and also, for assault and

battery, was called and tried by the cour!. He was lined live dollars and costs in each case, lie gave security.

The case of the State of Indiana vs. Fred. Lawson, charged with horseracing, was next called and tried by the court. He Mas fined five dollars and costs. Paid.

The case of the State vs. Thomas York, charged with assault and battery, and .several other charges was called and continued. The court then adjourned.

SERIOUS CUTTING AFFRAY.—A couple of young men, named Taylor Gapenand James Taylor, had some misunderstanding and a slight altercation in the Crystal Bowling Alley on Sixth street, Saturday night. They were prevented coming to blows at that time by the interference of bystanders, however. Sunday morning they met in the saloon of one Lankford on Fourth street, when they had further words, which resulted in both parlies drawing knives and Gapcn inflicting a severe wound in the head of Taylor, with a knife, the blade of which was about four inches in length, wrenching the handle from the blade leaving the same sticking in Taylor's head, which he extracted himself. Dr. Young was^ sent for and probed the wound of the injured party, and pronounced it noi dangerous.

Officer Robertson arrested young Gnpen and lodged him in jail, from whence he was taken before Mayor Cookerly yesterday morning, who fined him ii the sum of 9J5, in default of whicu he was remanded to jail.

Ax UnVOIDABLE DISA I'POIXT.UEXT.— Messrs. Lock and Wamsley have received the following dispatch from Parson Xashy

TOLEDO, OHIO, Jan. 2, 4:40 P. M.

Jo )•. Jock and IVainslo/, Tcrre Jlautc, Ind. "Postpone my lecture. My wife is dangerously ill. it is impossible for me to leave her." D. Ii. LOCKE.

Messrs. Lock and Wamsley request us to announce that Nasbv will lecturehero at an early day, of which flue announcement will be made in the daily papers, and those now holding tickets, can retain them until then, or by calling at Bartlett's book store, can have their money refunded.

It speaks well for us too, for in this city when a man deserves to go, he is sent, and if Vincennes had her deserts if would be necessary to build anew Penitentiary, for there is not a town in the State, of its size, that lias as many rowdies. If you had Judge Long down there one year, your population would decrease one-half at least.
