The Star has a larger circulation than any other paper published in Putnam County, consequently it is the best advertising medium. Every man, woman and child seems fully posted on ail points of the taiiff issue now, and each individual, of coarse, knows more about the subject than all the remainder. There is a vast amount of tariff talent going to waste now, but in 1884 the demand will be equal to the supply. The withdrawal of an advertisement is an evidence of weakness that business men are not slow to act upon—New York Times. It is not only an evidence of weakness to business men, but to all men and all women. The houses that advertise their wares in the newspapers are the houses that gat the patronage of buyers. The business men of this city are, as a class, liberal adrertisi rs.— Indianapolis Keview. The above facts are worthy consideration. Business men who advertise are generally up with the times, kuow how to keep store and please customers. Advertisements aie of value in proportion to the number of people who see them. The circulation of The Star is far in excess of any other publication in Putnam County. Last Sunday afternoon word was received in this city that a fatal affray had taken place on the Young farm, near Manhattan, and the particulars as gleaned by a Star reporter are as follows: B. F. Lynch married, several years ago, the widow Young. At the present term of Circuit Court she petitioned for a divorce from Lynch, and said petition was - the

Joseph J. Albright testified that he was a resident of Cloverdale township, Putnam county, Indiana, and 29 years old. I was at home all morning; the Young boys came to father’s house about 10 o'clock yesterday; did not know that Lynch was to go to the Young piace on Sunday; saw deceased on father’s farm Saturday, and he told me that it was his last day to take his things away from the residence of his divorced wife; was at home when the Young boys came to our house; heard Will say that he had kiLed the trifling dog, and that Ben Lynch had struck at him. Levi said nothing about the atl’ray and had no weapons, Mr. Best and myself went to the scene of the affray and found Lynch lying on his back, dead. Will further said he had ordered Lynch off the place, and Lynch replied he was d—d if ho was going to go; noticed blood only on one place on fence; body was about a hundred

Last Sunday morning Lynch, accompanied by others, went to her farm with a team to get some dishes, chairs and vinegar which he claimed as his personal property, and the murder resulted from this attempt to gain possession of them, as set forth io the testimony, which we give below in full, as taken by the Coroner on Monday and Tuesday last: Testimony of William Jenkins—1 am a resident of Putnam county; aged 18 years: my father and Steve Taylor bought some things of Lynch, to-wit: somo dishes, some chairs and part of a barrel of vinegar. I took a wagon to go down to Mrs. Lynch’s to get the things for father and Mr. Taylor; when I got to Mrs. Lynch’s place, Lynch let the fence down and drove in the field; William Young and Levi Young met us, Bill in front; he came up and ordered the party to get off the place; 1 had no time to get hold of the lines to turn the team around, as he came up so quick; Young used no angry words, but spoke as if he was mad; Lynch made no reply, but drove on; Bill Young grabbed the horses by the bits and then ran to the front wagon wheel and began firing a pistol; Lynch fell out of the wagon; don't know whether he was shot or uot; I and the boy jumped and ran; Lynch got up and started toward the road, the Y’oungs still firing at him; Youngs overtook Lynch, and when I
tnony. Sunday afternoon, after the news ol the difficulty had reached this city, Sheriff Brandon and Coroner Rogers went to the scene of the affray, known as Black Hawk, and investigated the surroundings. Th« Shciriff placed William and Levi E. Young under arrest and conveyed them to tho county jail, where they now await! the action of the court. PubUt opinion in the neighborhood where the affray occurred is with the | Young boys, so far as we have been able | to ascertain, it being asserted that Lynch, I in his lifetime, abused both the boys and their mother in a shameful manner. Below we giro a diagram of the scene of the affray, with the points of interest noted thereon. DIAGRAM OK THE UROl'N’D.

The Young boys came 1 to Albright’s a little before 10 o clock Will Young had a pistol when he came to the house, and said that he had killed that dirty dog: he then startad around the house to wash the blood and dirt from his hands; showed signs of having been struck with a club; Levi had no weapon; did not look as if he had been in a fight; after Will washed, he came on to the porch and said lie had shot Lynch in the head and killed him: went over to the scene of the affray; did not notice anything to denote that tho body had been dragged along the ground; back portion of the head of deceased was crushed to a jelly. Y'oung said he did not know how often he had shot deceased. Levi Y'oung said Will had struck Lynch over the head two or three times with a club. Will Young said he ordered Lynch off the place, and gave him time to go; Lynch replied he’d be d—d if he’d do so until he got his things, and went ahead. Young then began firing, and Lynch jumped or fell out of the wa:on, and then started toward tho road, the boys following. I went to the scene of affray after above conversation; saw blood on the road fence, about 50 yards
