one year ago there stood an unsightly and unused blacksmith shop, where now is situated a large and commodious house of worship. It is built of brick; in dimensions 38x56 feet; in height, 82 feet to top of spire. It has Gothic windows and door with stained glass. The ceiling is octagonal in shape and 24 feet above the floor. In tho rear of the pulpit is a niche four feet deep with side lights. The house will accommodate 320 peojile. I In dedication day it held perhaps 500. The total cost of lot, building and furnishing so far has been $3,270. This work speaks volumes for the church when we consider the mere handful of members. Eight | years ago this church was organized with twelve members. It now numbers but 42, and yet they have had mind and heart to work faithfully until a chapel for
praise lias crowned their efforts. On Sabbath morning, July 3, a large)
congregation gathered from town and | country to witness and participate in the]
exercises of dedication. On the pulpit 1 Jump Seats, Buggies, stand were ministers of various sister j n • txt churches, all of whom had kindly omitted rnffitOUS and iSpriDg WOgOllS. their own services to be present at ours, j Carriage Repairing of all kinds. terspersed with Scripture reading and ! prayer. The sermon was delivered by ] Rev. E. \V. Fisk, D. D., of Greencastle, | who also offered the dedicatory prayer., The discourse was one of the finest ever! delivered in Ladoga. The speaker’s) commanding form and voice, combined j with the excellence of the matter presented, hold together the large audience j which gave him most profound attention, j The discourse was most timely and be- j fitting such an occasion, a synopsis of 1
which would fail of doing it justice. A
statement followed to the effect that all j indebtedness had been cancelled, after I which the choir rendered with happy j effect an anthem entitled, “These walls
we to Thine honor raise.”
The too common mode of begging was dispensed with as needless, because what little was under promise was advanced and tho house made clear of any incum-
brance.
It was a happy day with this people, who so soon saw the fulfillment of their | desires. In the language of the prophet, Nchemiah, ‘‘So built we the wall, * * for the people had a mind to work.” While our own people have bourne tho burden) in the erection of this church, wc feel grateful to those who have so kindly as- j sisted in the good work. It is especially 1 with devout thanksgiving to God, who made Bethel the gate ol heaven to Israel,
