George Gettung of S»n Franncisco had a young wife who liked to goto halls ami [/icnics. while he preferred to remain quietly at houm. He resolved to reform her by punishment. Ho began by boxing her cars, next kicked her, and at the the third otlonce gave her a sound thrashing. Still she was not obedient. As soon as the black marks were gone from her face she went to a garden party.

George thought that a little stabbing, j not deep enough to kill, might have the |

desired effect. He followed her with a

sharp knife in his hand, and prodded her | several times in the manner intended. I

hut finally struck a deeper blow, and she died on the spot. His defence is that the homicide was accidental.

A large audience gathered last Sunday at tho Locust Street M. E. Church, to

1 lain b iguren. w j tncg8 t | ie exercises attendant upon the

re-dedication of that pla^o of worship since its reconstruction and renovation. Tho old building was erected about eight years ago. It was intended to build a much larger edifice than was finally completed, the reason for which was that when having tho larger structure nearly completed a heavy storm broke upon it, almost demolishing it. So tho congregation had to content itself with a house oflimited capacity until the present when they were able to build the elegant temple which was dedicated to the service of the Lord on Sunday last. The new building, inside and out, is a model of beauty and comfort, and has a seating capacity of about 800 persons, which is provided for with handsomely carved and finished pews of walnut and ash combined, furnished by the Wabash School and Church Furniture Co., of Wabash, Ind. Tho scats are arranged to the best possible advantage, enabling the audience to obtain full view of the speaker from any part of the room. The acoustic properties are excellent, there being no difficulty to hear the speaker plainly and distinctly. Besides the main audience room there are four other rooms— two at the east and two at the west end of the building. The west rooms are used as the parlors of tho church, while the other two servo for various purposes. The walls, ceiling ami windows of the main room are frescoed and decorated in accordance with the most modern styles and patterns of ornamentation. The floor is carpeted w ith a rich Brussels, wonderful for the exquisite harmony of its colors—old gold and red. A beautiful pulpit occupies the front of the rostrum, which is also handsomely carpeted. Immediately behind tho pulpit, within a slight recess, space is set apart for the choir. Also directly above the pulpit, in an arch, is wiitten this beautiful Scriptural motto: ‘‘Worship the Lord in the Beauty of Holiness.'’ The house is effectually lighted by five clusters of bracket lamps suspended from the sides of the galleries, which extend around the

entire length of tho room.

In a word, tho members of Locust Street Church can pride themselves upon possessing one of the most neat and elegant places of worship in the city, Tho dedicatory services were begun according to tho M. E. Bitual, by Bishop Foss, of Slinnesota, after which the choir, composed of members of the different church choirs of the city, joined by the congregation, sang “Praise God, from Whom all blessings How.’’ llev. F. C. Iglehart, of Evansville, announced himn No. 800, after the singing of which ftd-

after which tho Bev. Harry A. Bechtel, of Kichinond, Ind., preached an eloquent and interesting sermon from the text found in 14th chap. Homans, 7th verse. After tho exercises were at an end a subscription was raised to pay off the indebtedness of the church, which amounted to nearly .$4,000.
