tfi^Frank Riley is charged with as sau't und battery with : nt nt to kill, the the assaulted being Mr. W. D. Butler, of the firm of Butler & Browning, South Greencastle. The report is that Riley waylaid Butler as he was walking home from his business house, on Thursday night of last week, and attacked him with a club, hut George Callender happening to he along, the assaulted man escaped serious injury through Callender’s assistance. Riley was arrested Saturday for the offence, and taken to the Mayor’s office by the Marshal. Not being ready for examination, Riley sent to South Greencastle for a bondsman, and while awaiting his anival, he gave the Marshal the slip, fleeing from the Mayor's office and nortkwaid on Vine street. The Marshal pursued, &s did also a score or more of our citizens, und Riley was ovethouled on Mr. Jacob iiatlilf’s land, pretty well blown after his lively run. The prisoner was placed under

We wish to correct some inaccuracies in the article published last week, in regard to the unfortunate man, F.vans, who had his frossen feet amputated at the County Infirmary, said errors being mostly the result of his own insane story. The truth is, his fqet were frozen while wandering by the woods and fields about one and a half miles east of Putnaraville. Jle was found, in a frozen condition, by Mr. J. J. Bowen, on the morning of Nov •'f4, standing near tho creek, cursing on imaginary “Charley,” cashier of a bank, who failed to give him money claimed due h.rn. Kvans had on a pair of dilapidated slippers and two pair of stockings without heels. He refused to accompany Bowen to a place of shelter, and assistance was summoned to place him in a wagon, that he might be taken to the township trustee for permanent relief. On arriving at the trustee’s residence the slippers and stockings were removed, when it was discovered that his feet were frozen and had turned black.. Kvans looked down at them, and exclaimed he had on blue stockings. After he had received the best attention that could be given him, ho was sent to the County House, where he is at this time, in a critical condition, his injuries being worse than mentioned last week, in that his back is badly frosted and causes him in-

tense suffering.
