Thursday evening last, one of tho most happy events of the season took place, i. ♦.. the marriage of Mr. Josephus Anderson and Miss Mary C. The parlors were tastefully and beautifully decorated with flowers, etc. The ceremony whs performed l.y Dr. F. McNutt, and was impressive indeed. The hrido was attired in a combination suit of biuo and grey silk, and was attended by her sister and Miss 11 si ia Mays. Mr. Anderson, th ,! groom, is well known vs one ol cur most enterprising and well to-do fariueis, with a large circle of friends hi ie and in other parts of the State. Miss Biker, the bride, was one of the popular and atiractivu young ladies of this city, and the groom should indeed be happy and proud of his companion in life. There was quite a largo attendance of the friends and relatives of the family, to witness the marriage, enjoy the collation spread in honor of the occasion, which was a nianiagu feast indeed, and extend ♦o the newly wedded couple ti e warm and hearty congratulations they so well
deserved.
An hour or so after tho ceremony Mr. »n l Mrs. Anderson repaired to their future resid'-nce west ol this city, where they are at home to friends. The brid" received a large number of presents, some of them very elegant. Among them we noted the following: Silver butter dish, Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Charley Forth, of Madison, Ind.. one of the owners of R >wdv Boy, has been interviewed by a reporter, and in slimming up the result of the race season, thus speaks of the "big four:” "Rowdy Boy won five races—at Dayton, Ohio, Milwaukee and Fontiac, Mich , at Springfield, Mass,, and here at home. Sleepy Tom won two—at Adrian, Mich , and a special race at Detroit. Sorn 1 Dan won three—at Buffalo, Cincinnati and St. Louis. But remember that Dan didn’t start at the beginning of the sea son. Lucy won two—at Cleveland and Louisville. But Mattie Hunter was the real tliumph. She won ten feces—at Iona, at Grand Rapids, Mich , at Ft. Wayne, at Rochester, N. Y., two at Chicago, one at St. Louis, at Omaha, at Hartford.and a special race at Elmira, N. V , where she went against the Boy alone and heat him.”

MrFrof Roht. A. I find that Irom 18115 to 1870, inclusive, the average attendance of students was 361 per year; from ls71 to 1875 the a>'' rage was 31*1 per year; from 1876 to 1880—the present administration—the average has been 423. The attendance this year will he above the best five years in Anbury's history. But the improvements in the grounds and buildings, in connection with this, and the steady increase of tho endowment i> simplv a gran I success. The improvement in the gen- ral bearing and morals of the students also, and the work of in•iruction and discipline is still greater, and justifies tho wise judgtm nt and good providence of present arrangements, l he friends of the University-honld h t those things he more gem ra ly known, especially since an occasional enemy might often try to produce a contrary impression. VN on Id that in Indiana men .and women of wealth, in the Methodist Church and out of it, might wake up to trn ir privilege and duty. There are other pressing needs that should be supplied.
