| Yesterday's Daily Democrat contained I the simple announcement of the death of P .David Snyder, father of \V. E. Snyder, j of Amsterdam. Mr. Snyder passed ’ away at the Utica Insane Asylum, It is jsaid to have boon his frequent request t<) he buried beside his first w ife and children at llarttord, Conn. His son, Dr. Snyder desired to carry out his father’s wish, as he believed it to be, and was intending to take tho remains on tho 12:23 train to-day to that place for interment. About three years ago David (Snyder married for his second wife 51al ria, daughter of Peter Hover, of Port Jackson. He lived with her only about a year, when a recurrence of his trouble jof insanity clouded his mind, and renderled his teinoval to the Asylum necessary. 1 This was accomplished only by recourse to the law, as the Hovers were opposed to his removal. When Mr. Snyder died his wife, Maiia, and her family desired to have him buried in Green Hill Cemejtery. Dr. Snyder went to Utica for the i remains, bringing them to Amsterdam ; yesterday morning, in a handsome black- | walnut casket wdh silver ornaments. I Dr. Snyder was prevailed upon to allow j ttie funeral to take p’aoc at Mr. Hover’s ! residence, near Port Jackson, where his father’s widow is lying dangerously ill
and not expected to live long.
The funeral services took place this ) morning, the Rev. John Minor, assisted i by the Rev. D. \Y . Dayton officiated. | Here it was perceived there was trouble brewing, fur there were two sets of hearers, and at tho close of the service tho Hovers were urwilling that Dr. Snyder , should take charge of the remains. An unseemly contention arose and waxed warm, hut the matter was compromised ! by allowing the body to bo carried to j the hearse, the idea being to have tho body deposited in the cemetery vault until the question was settled by due process of law. The Hovers claim that Dr. Snyder promised to allow this to be j done, but he says he was under duress | and only gave an evasive answer, viz.:
“Well go on up.”
Be this as it may, the procession camo from Hover’s residence to Main street, Amsterdam, when it came ta a halt, as
