Mrs. Hannah Bent, of East Boston, was kept alive for forty-two days during a recent illness by moistening her mouth with cider. Her stomach could not endure tea, coffee, milk or even water, and it is doubtful whether it ever received more than a spoonful of the cider with which her mouth was moistened. Something broke in her stomach, which gave her relief, and she gradually recovered, and is now in tho enjoyment of her usual health. She was attended during her forty-two days’ fast by Mrs. Cummings, W’ho states positively that nothing but cider entered Mrs. Bent’s mouth during that time. It is believed that abstinence from food saved her life.

though the former phase of excitement seems more fruitful than the latter. Curious Scene in CliureYi. A clergyman in Brantford, Can., the Rev. 8. P. Barker, in the course of his farewell sermon, a week ago last Sunday, took occasion to remark that a j portion of the choir had placed obstacles in his way, saying that ho had never had an hour's peace on account of the actions
of some of them.
This roused the ire of a gentleman in tho choir , who arose, and from the choir gallery, directly opposite the pulpit, he called u(Kin the s|>euker to desist, a-s he was insulting every member of the choir. This, as may be surmised, created a commotion. The speaker instantly ordered the intruder to sit down. The latter retorted that if any further insults were offered he would turn on the organ and drown the parson’s voice. During the controversy several ladies fainted.
