SaiyA colored female “non compos mentis” got on a “tear,” Thursday, and demolished a considerable amount of plate glass, smashing a show window for Brattin, a window for “Jacky” Jones, a door glass for Marquis, a window for Rcnick, Curtis & Co., and a window for Mr. McElroy. She landed in tho quay. We are informed that she is one of those colored people who “exodusted” to Indiana to “develop the resources of tho State.” Having probably developed all the “resources” she could find lying around loose, she proceeded to develop her muscle by smashing plate glass. ©ayA curious incident occurred in the south part of the city, tho first of the week. A hungry looking dog looked longingly into the kitchen door,of a well-to-do citiz.en, and the maid-of-all-work seeing him, went to the door, patted him on the head, called him “poor fellow,” and gave him a nice piece of meat, which ho devoured eagerly. In about half an hour a hungry looking tramp, looked longingly into the same kitchen door. But the maid-of-all-work didn’t come to the door, pat him on the head, call him “poor fellow,“and give him a nice piece of meat. On the contrary, she yelled out, in tones calculated to frighten a deaf person— “you’d better git out o’ here, or I’ll call the man of the house.” It is hardly necessary to state that the tramp did “git.” He would not have objected to the girl patting him on the head, but he did feel averse to having the “man of the house” pat him on tho head with a brick. Why this discrimination between dogs and tramps? In the words of another, “such is life.”
