Having obtained the ownership of the house in which they lived Mrs. Zollinger sold it and realized .$12,000 over and above the incumbrance on the property^ This money, all in $100 notes, was placed in an old iron safe, of which Mrs. Zollinger kept tho key. On Wednesday Inst Zoolinger got drunk, ;and, going to his homo demanded from his wife the key of the safe. She refused to give it to him and lie drove her from 'he house. After breaking the furniture he got a locksmith to open the safe, out of which he took $12,100. Ho was arrested on Friday night. He was drunk, but had $12,052 35 tied up in an old handkerchief and carefully hidden. About three o’clock yesterday morning the doorman of the police station saw Zollinger leaning in a crouching position against the door of his cell, and upon opening the door, found him to be unconscious. Lffurts to revive him failed. He had tied his cardigan jacket to tho upper grating of tho cell-door, and to this had tied a pocket handkerchief. To the handkerchief ho had tied his vest by Bn arm-hole and through tho other armhole he had thrust his head. By throw-

KILLING HIM INSTANXLY. Lights were quickly brought, and a most terrible scene was revealed. The daughter lay insensible on the bed, and was drenched in blood. Her head was frightfully slashed and cut. Her arm was almost severed from her body. Her legs were terribly cut, and there were other numerous wounds on her body. The mother lay upon tho floor covered with blood and wounds. The younger brother was also bleeding and suffering from numerous gashes, while on tho floor in a heap where lie fell, with the bloody hatchet near him, was the dead body of the assassin, who was none other than tho son-in-law, Howard. Information was brought in an hour to tho Coroner, Dr. Fulton, who, summoning a jury, repaired to the scene. The spectacle there presented was most terrible and sickening in the extreme. Tho room was literally covered and deluged with blood. Every bed had a sutfiring and groaning occupant, and on the floor lay tho pulseless and faststiffening form of tho would-bc-assassin, in his blood, just as he fell. The motive
