Rome aeventyflve or eighty witnesses have been summoned to appear and testi'y, besides the score or more who have already given in their evidence. So far but two of the Greencastlc witnesses have testified, to wit: Messrs. M, T. Lewman and Oscar Werneke. The sum and substance of their testimony, in its shortest form is about ss follows: Mr. M T. L"w.ran, Sheriff of Putnam county, tesified that the first intiin'-tion he had of the exodus war an editorial in the Greencastle (Putnam county) Banner, which said that Indiana would or could be carried for the II publican party by the importation of nogra s from the South. A circular written by Langsdalo, the editor and s'zned by R»t. J, !1. Clay, was purchased by Mr. Lewman from one of the emigrants for |7. Thia held out ridiculous prices to the negroes for labor, and recited that there was an enormous demand for them in Indiana. It had been circulated among the nogroes in North Carolina, dated July 7, and insisted that they should reach Indiana during the ‘‘all and winter of 1879. The circular was identified by 0. Worm ko, at that time an employee in the Greencastlo Manner oflice, where it was printed, and put in evidence. Mr. Lewman stated also that a negro from Kingston, N. C. named Heath, thinking he was a Republican, told him that Indiana Iras tube colonized with nogroes from the South before the 18lh of next May, so as to carry the State for the Republicans. Ho gave as a reason for the payment of the fare ot the exodusters by others than themselves that not any negroes who owned stock or property in North Caro lina could be beguiled from their homei Mr. Lewman corroborated the foregoing testimony as to the genera! destitution of the exodustt ts since their arrival iu Indi-
