The Hendricks county carte is referred to the attention of the “ southern outrage editors ” of the numerous republican organs which make a specialty of such occurrences during campaigns. Hendricks is a fertile and prosperous ! county, covered with school houses and churches, and is not located in Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia or Texas, as one might well suppose from recent events. A red-handed murderer, who wilfully and deliberately killed a man, with no provocation whatever, receives a sentence of 199 days in the county jail! Every citizen of Hendricks county should hang his head in shame. Never more, hitter republican partisans of Hendricks, raise a howl over alleged crimes of this character in the South.

Our worthy Greencastle contemporary, the Democrat, is off in one respect in speaking of the P. O. S. of A. when he getsthat growing young order mixed in his mind with the A. P. A. The P. O. S. of A. member proudly wears his society emblem and is not around attacking the catholic or any | other organization, religious or secular that is patriotic The A. P. A. is an origanization of quite another color, working in secret as the anarchists themselves except they do not indulge in bombs. Largely it is an organization composed of cranks, religious bigots, and republican politicians who are trying to scare some democrats into the belief that the six per cent, of our population who are Catholics are going to rise up and swallow all the rest of the population, Methodists, Presbyterians, Christians, Baptists and everybody else. On October 21, 1892, Henry Allison went to Congressman Cooper’s meeting at Plainfield for the purpose of raising a disturbance. He did so; shot and instantly killed Alva Williams, a captain of a democratic club, with no excuse whatever for the crime. In a few days he will walk out of jail a free man, but forever is branded and it will follow him wherever he may go as a man who took the life of a fellow being with premeditation and without

provocation.

out from day to day when the purpose of the society is disclosed. Some time ago the Democrat took the stand that the objects of the A. P. A. were contrary to the principles of the constitution of the United States. It charged that the devilish teachings of that order were a blow at the very foundation of our government. The following extract from the Pittsburg

Post is to the point:

Mr. Harrie Pontious, a leading business man of Crawfordsville, sends the

Democrat a long letter in response to j sectarian

its criticism, last week, of the A. P. A. and the Patriotic Sons of America. He writes in behalf of the laCer organization, and the style of his communication proves him to be a gentleman and scholar. He also kindly sends a pamphlet giving the principles and ob-

otry. The know-nothingism of forty years ago is respectable in comparison, for in those forty years much good work lias been done by all creeds to abate the bitterness and wrong of

prejudice and fanaticism.

| This the A. P. A. would rekindle and add to its intensity by the most knavish

slanders and lies.

Elect United States Senators by direct vote of the people and the country will not be annoyed by a windy, lazy and dangerous House of Lords. The Senate is not in touch with the people. Less frills, fuss and foolish dignity and more business would be very acceptable to the country at this juncture.
