Treat Cross-Eyes SAN FRANCISCO (UPJ) — Will cross-eyes in a child “go away” if left untreated? This is a common misconception among many parents and pediatricians, says Dr. Robert L. Tour, ophthalmologist at the University of California’s San Francisco Medical Center. A child’s cross-eyes, "might appear to improve slightly with age," but he will never be cured "without proper surgical or medical treatment,” Tour says. Complications may occur without treatment, such as amblyopia, which causes permanent vision loss, he says adding it is “vitally important that treatment for cross-eyes begin before the age of seven.” Direct Action LONDON < UPI >—The owner of a London hairdressing salon told his staff to take flu shots or face getting no sick pay if they come down with the ailment. —DPU have 6-2 Dan Jordan, 6-4 Reggie Llewellyn, and 6-7 Army Peck, a 235-pound tank from Cincinnati, O. All of those are lettermen but Llewellyn, a rugged 190pound senior. Nichols also has letter man Lee Fouts, 6-3, to draw on at forward, and 5-10 guard Pete Volz. Last year, when the two clubs played in Crawfordsville, the Cavemen pulled off an 88-76 upset. The Tigers, late in the season., redeemed themselves 88-69, enroute to a nine-game winning streak. —Postmaster sprawling postal system he claims would triple the speed of letter sorting and save enough money for a “favorable return on investment.” The proposal, costing an estimated $500 million, would replace men with machines in the mail sorting operations of the nation’s 300 largest post offices, which handle about 80 per cent of the total mail load. Watson said his mechanical “modules”—actually automated assembly lines — would sort 107,000 letters per hour compared with 36,000 in today’s most efficient post office setups.

WASHINGTON (UPI) - The balm o. a fat severance pay check isn’t in store for politically appointed federal employes who will be fired by the incoming Nixon administration. The U.S. Civil Service Commission said Sunday it has advised all federal agencies that they cannot provide severance

In most deals, the play of the cards is reasonably automatic and both sides achieve the par result. However, in some deals, the so-called par result is not attained because one side or the other unaccountably strays from the straight and narrow and in that way comes to grief. In most such hands the error becomes obvious once the deed is done, and is quietly stored away for future reference, but once in a while the error is not especially noticeable and the players go merrily on to the next deal unaware of any wrongdoing. For example, take this hand where South opened fourth hand with four hearts. West led the jack of spades. East won with the ace and

pay to any political appointees not protected by Civil Service laws. The commission said it changed its regulations to prevent a “windfall” of severance payments to such nontenure employes. “When an employe accepts an appointment to a schedule C position, or a noncareer execu-

Threatened with a spade ruff, South led the nine.of hearts in an effort to get trumps out as soon as possible, but West won with the ace and returned a spade. East ruffed and then cashed the ace of diamonds to put declarer down one. This was certainly not a par result. While it is true that East - West found the best method of defense, South should nevertheless have made his contract by taking the appropriate steps to forestall the spade ruff. Instead of impulsively leading a trump at trick three. South should have cashed dummy’s AK of clubs at once and disposed of the queen of spades, which was much too hot an item to keep in stock. Having done this, a trump lead would then have been in order, and, with the queen of spades having flown the coop no return by West could beat the contract.

live assignment, he does so with the realization that he will be subject to separation with a change of administration or a change of superiors,” the commission said in a memorandum to the agencies. Severance pay is not designed to aid an employe who is serving under an appointment which does not have indefinite tenure.” Saturday, it was disclosed that President-elect Richard M. Nixon has sent down orders that he wants all major policy positions in his administration filled by the time he takes office Jan. 20. More than 2,300 poUcy posttions in the government are expected to be filled by the new administration, indicating that number of Johnson administration employes will leave voluntarily or be ousted by the Republican administration. Nixon himself is selecting about 300 of the highest echelon officials, including members of the cabinet. He has not yet announced any cabinet appointments. Harry S. Flemming, Nixon’s personnel chief, said “traditionally, little more than the cabinet and perhaps sub-cabinet has been filled when past presidents moved into office.
