Extension news By JERRY WILLIAMS County Youth Agent

iiiiiiiiiillllllllii :

This week is a very big one for many Putnam County 4-H members. Five Putnam County 4. Her’s will be attending the National 4-H Congress held in Chicago. December 1st to 5th. They will leave Friday, November 29th to go to Chicago. Those who will be attending will be Cathy Niles, Russellville; Allan Sutherlin, Fillmore; Marie McKee, Carolyn Torr, and Suzanne Sendmeyer of Greencastle. This is quite an honor for Putnam County to have 5 of Indiana 45 delegates at national congress. We hope that we have a complete report from these people when they return. A congress trip is probably a highlight for which any 4-H member would like to shoot. They have been very active in their 4-H program and have been quite outstanding in their project work. One note of interest is that Marie, Cathy, and Carolyn are all presently seniors in high school. They have more work in 4-H ahead of them and we are expecting more things to come from them. They will be joining approximately 1,650 other outstanding 4-H members from throughout the United States. Also this week seven of the fifteen 4-H members who have completed 10 years in 4-H work will be going to Chicago on an achievement trip. This trip is awarded by the 4-H council. Those who will be attending are: Judy Nichols, Bainbridge; Carolyn Smith, Bainbridge; Floreen Danforth, Reelsville; and Vicki Aker Rollings of Greencastle; also joining them will be Jerry Sinclair of Cloverdale; Ed. Britton, Roachdale; and Gaylord Vaughn, of Belle Union. Driving will be my wife and I plus Roger Rollings. We will be staying at the Conrad Hilton hotel and plan to attend the Plaza Suits stage play, and attend various attractions in Chicago such as

the Merchandise Mart, the Museum of Science and Industry. This is a very good award for a job well done for these 4-H members. A committee of junior leaders met this week to plan their annual Christmas party which will be held at the fairgrounds December 27th. All 4-H junior leaders, both old and new are invited. They can bring a guest if they so desire. Sounds like a very interesting evening with games, records, taffy pull and the works. There will be more information concerning this at a later date. —Gym The Holding Corporation for the Jess McAnally Center is made up of Glenn Monnett, president; Tilghman Ruark, vice-president; John Whitaker, treasurer; Jack W. Hamm, secretary, and Fred Shively, member. Those on the School Board are: Jack W. Torr, president; Dale L. Shoup, vice-president; George F. Long, Jr., secretary; Allan E. Feld, and Mrs. Elaine Shedd, members. Mr. Charles Poe and Mrs. Beverly Wagoner were members of the School Board during the period of construction. Roy C. Sutherlin is the attorney for the school and the building corporation. Park Visitors Get an Assist FLAMINGO, Fla. < UPI > — Man gave nature and visitors in Everglades National Park an assist when the road from the Park’s entrance southwest of Miami to the Flamingo vacation complex on Florida Bay was constructed in 1957. Rock for the roadbed taken from the preserve itself, created "borrow pits,” shaped as natural ponds. These became water holes for the Park's abundant and unusual animal life, and perfect places for vis-

Goldman speaker WASHINGTON (UPI) - The president of the World Jewish Congress says the old antisemitism propagated by reactionary forces is being replaced with new anti-Jewish sentiment stemming from leftist elements throughout the world. Dr. Nahum Goldmann told 2,000 delegates attending the 70th anni national biennial convention of the Union of Orthodox Jewish congregations that new anti-semitism was propping up “primarily in the form of anti-Israel positions and anti-Zionism.” —S. Gives approval PARIS (UPI) — Parliament gave final approval to the austerity program President Charles de Gaulle ordered to save the iranc. The government immediately put it into effect by forbidding mailing money out of France. Although the National Assembly approved De Gaulle's program Thursday, the Senate could have delayed putting it into effect. Unlike the lower house, the Senate has often defied De Gaulle. De Gaulle astonished his own nation and the financial world Saturday by refusing to devalue the franc, weakened by weeks of speculation on European markets. Instead he asked for a tough austerity program to raise taxes, impose strict currency exchange controls and cut government spending including France’s expensive nuclear program. Dy $1 billion
