Newspaper endorses Whitcomb INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) - Indiana’s largest newspaper today endorsed Republican Edgar D. Whitcomb for governor. The Indianapolis Star, which lists itself as politically independent, said Whitcomb “promised to clean up the mess in the secretary of state’s office and he did.” “He has now promised to keep down state spending and thus avoid any sales or income tax increases next year,” the Star’s editorial said. ‘‘We believe he will do his best to fulfill that promise, too.”
