Rules on “speedy trial ”
INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) — Indiana's prosecutors have been ad. vised by Indiana Atty. Gen. John J. Dillon that the so-called “speedy trial” requirement now applies to inmates in state institutions, and that robbery is a lesser offense than armed robbery. Dillon cited the significance of recent Indiana Supreme Court ruling in the cases of Sherrill vs. the Putnam Circuit Court and Dembowski vs. State. In the Dembowski case the high court held that a 10-25 year term under one law for robbery was invalid because of a later law in which armed robbery carries a 10-20 year term. Dillon noted that this affects future prosecutions for robbery and armed robbery. In the Sherrill case, he pointed out that the right to a speedy trial was applied to state institutional inmates. “Because of recent state and federal court decisions, the legal requirements for law en-
forcement and c riminal prosecution are changing rapidly,,” DilIon said. “Various prosecutors have told me that they appreciate the efforts of this • office in helping them to keep ab reast of these changes.” —Heloise ered a mutual interest nyllon net and we re complet ely wrapped up in showing e«' ich other the "pretties" they were making and chEitting eint husiastically about Heloise.
