DEAH FOLKS: If you have a Mender, here’s a dandy suggestion . . . Remove the skin from a boiled chicken which has Im-cii left in the refrigerator at least ’24 hours. Then get right down to the meat itself hack, neck, thighs, wings — and pull it from the hones. Now put this meat in your Mender (DON’T put in the skin) and DO NOT ADD ANY WATER OR LIQUID WHATSOEVER: Turn the blender on real quick and then turn it off. While it’s off, push the chicken down off the sides of the blender so the blades can reach it again. Do this three or four times . . . and you’ll have the most h c a u 11 f u I chopped chicken you've ever seen in your life. Drop it in a plastic bag, twist the top, place a rubber band around it (or store in a plastic jar) and stash it in your freezing compartment or deep freezer. So help me, Hannah, you can ilip out one tablespoon, pour out half a bag or just as much as you want to use with egg noodles, in salad, casseroles, for baby’s first solid food, etc. Real great, too, for hors d’oeuvres (try mixing it with sour cream or a little mayonnaise). >1 o s t important . . . even though most blender directions say, “add water", you don’t have to in this case. Wouldn’t this be ideal for those leftover turkey, roast and ham scraps? I love it because it separates easily, even after it freezes! Heloise I*. S. If you don't have blenders, use your meat grinder. DEAR HELOISE: How many strokes do you make with a hot iron while you are ironing one garment, a table napkin or a handkerchief? Not everything is made of a miracle fabric! The more tension we are under due to a crowded schedule. the more strokes we make. Use slower strokes holding
the vests. They spent many hours on this project and their efforts are much appreciated! Next year Bainbridge will merge with Russellville and Roachdale and will be performing as the North Putnam band. They will exchange this year’s costumes for flashy blue, orange and white uniforms which are being solicited for at the present time.
the iron a bit longer in each position, i But not long enough to scorch anything, i You'll find you can do the same amount of ironing in the same length of time but with half as many strokes and you will be half as tired. And trv to listen to a piece of mood music in slow tempo for outside help in controlling your rapid stroke speed. V P * -If * DEAR HELOISE: Did you ever lose a needle while sewing, and live in fear the baby might find it on the floor or some other member of the family pick it up in his foot? Try this: Never lay an unthreaded needle down out of a pin cushion. Thread it first. Then if it happens to slip off on the sofa or the carpet, all you have to do is look for it's handle the thread! So much easier to find. Reader •* * * DEAR HELOISE: I save nibber bands from around the daily papers and put them on a closet knob in the hallway leading to our bedrooms. As socks are washed, dried and mated, they are banded with the mbber bands saved. This keeps the tops of the socks from being stretched out of shape. When a pair of socks is to be used by anyone, the lubber band is taken off and dropped back into the drawer for use next time Evy Cope * :}! & DEAR HELOISE It’s no longer easy to find a crumb tray-with-brush set in the stores, so I'm using a nylon net ball, along with one of those plastic-coated meat trays, to remove crumbs from my tablecloth. Ruth Crowston * * DEAR HELOISE: When my baby's plastic pants don't appear worth mending, I carefully tear off the elastic and separate at the seams Then I have a flat piece of plastic that can be used as a nice backing for bibs. If you're careful and the material isn't ripped too badly, you can get one nice sized bib liner from the back panel and two small drooling bibs from the front. Just use bias tape around the edges. When finished, it looks like a “store bought" bib! Sharon McChesney
