Fillmore Christian church to observe laymen’s day
Personal and Local
Laymen of the church will conduct this Sunday’s Worship Service at the Fillmore Christian Church. The Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. The lay speakers will be Harvey Nichols and Mrs. Russell Harcourt. Several other laymen and women of the church will be participating. The Call To Worship will be given by Dale Lisby, and the Invocation by Leon Arnold. Mrs. Norman Custis will read the scripture lesson, and Lois Zeiner will lead the Pastoral Prayer. In memoriam In loving memory of James Simmerman Jr., who passed away Oct. 17, 1965. Presiding at the Communion Service will be Carl Crews, with Clarence Cooper and Paul Salmon serving as elders. Scheduled to serve as deacons are Leon Arnold, Hugh Isenberg, Wendall Clark, Earl Sanders, DeLoss Greenlee, and Raymond Lisby. The Benediction will be pronounced by Ray Nichols. Mrs. Ray Wells will be leading the singing with Mrs. Piercy Horn at the organ. Layman’s Day is an annual affair of the church in which the lay leadership and service is recognized and the laymen have an opportunity to make a meaningul witness for their church.

House guests Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cox of Crawfordsville, were the house guests of Mrs. Cox’s mother, Mrs. Louise Skinner. Birthday Lori Anne Stone will be six-years-old Oct. 19. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald E. Stone. Carnival There will be a Halloween Carnival Wednesday Oct. 23rd. at the Belle Union School. Chili and Sandwiches will be served starting at 6 p.m. There will be a Fish Pond, Dart Throw, Cake Walk, Spook House, and a General Store. A king and queen contest will be at 9:00. Visits Wallace Blue of Terre Haute was here Wednesday visiting his mother, Mrs. Octavia Blue.
Amity Baptist The Amity Baptist Church will hold its annual Basket Dinner, Sunday, October 20, 12:3C o’clock, at the Cloverdale Community building. The Rev. George Adams, of Martinsville, will be the afternoon speaker. Friends and members are invited to come and enjoy the Christian fellowship. 4 Goes to Vietnam Father John Wright, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Wright of Putnam County, left recently for duty in Vietnam. He is a nephew of Mrs. Dovibel Wright of Belle Union. Visit Kentucky Dr. and Mrs. Robert E. Williams, Mrs. Vera Blanchard and Mrs. Clyde Wildman drove to Berea, Ky. and returned home yesterday.

Funeral Notices Laura Owen services Sat.
Services for Mrs. Laura R. Owen, 85, of rural route five, Greencastle, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Rector Funeral Home. She died yesterday at a nursing home in Indianapolis. A Portland, Ore., native, she was a member of the Gobin Memorial Methodist Church, the Fillmore Garden Club and the Marion Towship Home Ec. Club. She is survived by a daughter Mrs. Irene Owen Myers. She was preceeded In death by her husband Glen who died in 1944. Burial will be in the Fillmore Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today. In memoriam In memory of my mother Ada L. Day who passed away Oct. 19, 1940. God Knows how much I miss her, Never shall her memory fade Loving thoughts shall ever wander To the spot where she is laid. Goes to Vietnam Dr. Roy K. Hunteman left Weir Cook Airport for San Francisco, Calif., where he will leave soon for duty in Vietnam. His wife, the former Mary Kaye Wright, will remain in Greencastle. She will later attend Indiana State to work on her master’s degree Last year she taught school in Greenwood. New business A new business is soon to come upon the local scene. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Monnett will have their grand opening Saturday, Oct. 19, for the Old National Trail Antique shop located 4 miles south of Greencastle at the junction of U.S. 231 and U.S. 43. They will feature a completel line of antiques. Surgery Lunie H. Lewis of near Eminence was rushed to the Community Hospital in Indianapolis Sunday. He had emergency surgery and he is reported in a serious condition. Attend rites Mrs. Lucille Miller, Mrs. Pearl Lynn, Mr. Cole and Mr. and Mrs. Jay Downey were here from Anderson to attend the final rites of Ann Poynter. Returns home Mr. Walter Poynter who was here from his home in San Jose, Calif., for the funeral of his mother, Mrs. Ann Poynter, has returned home. Guests Mr. and Mrs. Charles Trail, Cyril Frazier and Zella Fern Aubrey were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Holsapple of Martinsville, sister of Mrs. Charles Trail. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cramer of Centerton, Indiana and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kent and children of Indianapolis. In the afternoon they attended the Fall Foliage Parade. Book Club The Current Book Club will meet Monday Oct. 21st at 8 p.m. with Mrs. Russell Vermillion. Visited Mrs. Freemont Power of Indianapolis visited her mother Mrs. Minta Snider, Tuesday.

Miss Karen Jean Hutcheson, daugher of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hutcheson of Reelsville, and Mr. John Loyd Hood, son of Mrs. Harriett Hood of Greencastle, were united in marriage on Saturday evening, Sept. 7th at 7:00 o’clock in the Reelsville Methodist Church. The double ring ceremony was read by the minister, the Rev. Phil Badger before the altar decorated with baskets of blue and white Pom, Pom mums and candelabras. The bride given in marriage by her father wore a gown of all over lace styled with a natural waist line and mock bolero jacket, and carried out with the new bell sleeve. The chapel train fell from the waist line and was trimmed with tiny sequins to match the bolero and sleeves. Her veil was shoulder length with a crown of simulated pearls. She carried a bouquet of white Pom Pom mums with white sweet, heart roses. Miss Linda Sillery, friend of the bride was maid of honor. She wore mint green lace gown over taffeta with a green bow head piece and carried a bouquet of white Pom Pom mums. The bridesmaids were Miss Sharon Bain friend of the bride, and Miss Terri Hood, sister of the groom. They wore blue lace gowns over taffeta with blue bow head pieces and carried bouquets of white Pom Pom mums. Gamma Phi enjoy party Gamma Phi Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi Sorority enjoyed the Halloween party, Oct. 15th at the home of Mrs. Mary Lou Sharp, with twenty members and ten guests. Entertainment for the evening was a "Scavenger Hunt” for unusual items and gifts were given to each of the winners. The decorations were carried out with the Halloween look. Refreshments were served. The committee in charge of the party were; Mrs. Barbara Smith, Marian McClaine, Mary Lou Sharp, Pauline Ruark, Margaret Kendall, Beth Hurst and Maxine Haskett. Card of thanks We wish to thank all our friends and neighbors and relatives for their kindness and lovely floral tributes and food that was brought in at the sudden death of our loved one Hugh F. The bride’s mother wore a dark green dress with brown accessories with a corsage of white Pom Pom mums. Mr. Kenny Hutcheson, brother of the bride was the organist. Mr. Steve Blaydes friend of the groom was best man. Tim Hood brother of the groom and Keith Hutcheson, brother of the bride, were ushers. Miss Kathy Barnett was in charge of the guest book. A reception at the church followed the ceremony. Assisting were Mrs. Carol Nichols, Mrs. Sandra Hutcheson, Mrs. Judy Elwell and Mrs. Garlinda Mathews. Following a short wedding trip the couple are presiding at Hess Trailer Court in Greencastle. Among enrollment at Northwood At Northwood of Indiana, where much of the disciplinary authority is delegated to students, one of the members of the disciplinary team is Larry Canada, Bainbridge, who has been named resident assistant in the dormitory. Resident assistants are responsible for seeing that Northwood dormitory rules are obeyed. There is also a student disciplinary committee at Northwood of Indiana, the state’s newest college. More than 400 students are enrolled. Canada is the son of John Marvin Ash. A sophomore, he is majoring In business management.
News of Servicemen SAN DIEGO (FHTNC) Oct. 4Electrician's Mate 2nd Class Charles L. Etter, USN, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Etter of 505 E. Hanna St., Greencastle, Ind., Is serving aboard the repair ship USS Klondike. Klindike was the winner of the U. S. Navy’s Battle Efficiency Competition in the repair ship class for the 1968 fiscal year. The award was presented on the effectiveness of her repair work, as compared to other ships in her class.
