cram a second-grader back into his first grade clothing. Those clothes were a perfect fit, or maybe a little on the loose side, when school closed last June. How, then, does one account for the fact that they are now twice too small? Physical Impossiblity I checked with the children’s bureau of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare and I was told no boy that age could possibly have doubled in size in less than three months. It is my theory that we have a psychopath in our neighborhood. Harkening back to my police reporting days, i have dubbed him “The Phantom Shrinker." Last month qhile we were away on vacation the shrinker sneaked into my house and washed all of my kid’s school clothes in the wrong kind of detergent. I’m turning the case over to the FBI tomorrow. Meanwhile . . . Well, meanwhile, there is the business of trying to get my elder daughter ready to go off to college for the first time. Unless you have been through this yourself, you couldn’t believe all the stuff that freshmen girls take with them to college these days. Assemble Equipment My wife, the quartermaster, has drawn up a check list and the other evening we conducted an inventory to make certain all of the necessary equipment was at hand. “Riot helmet?” “Check.” “Tear gas mask?” “Check.” “Bail money?” “Check.” “Water, paint and cardboard for making protest signs?” “Check.” “A length of rope for tying up the dean?” “Check.” “Empty beer bottles to throw at the cops?” “Check.” “Okay, it looks like she's ready to begin her higher education. Let’s get it crated up. The moving van will be here next Saturday.” Valpo mayor dies at age of sixty VALPARAISO, Ind. (UPI)— Valparaiso Mayor Donald E. Will, 60, died suddenly Monday at the Lafayette home of his daughter. Valparaiso police chief Robert Miller announced the death here and said Will had been distraught over the illness of his wife, Hazel, who remained hospitalized in Lafayette. She was told of her husband’s death. Will was at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Charles Mather, to be near his wife. The exact circumstances surrounding his death were not revealed Mon. day. However, a Lafayette news, paper ran a story Monday that Will had been arrested for drunk driving in Lafayette on Saturday. He was slated to appear in city court Monday, but was granted a continuance when it was learned he suffered a “breakdown” Sunday, the paper said. The Republican mayor, who was serving the first year of his third term at the helm of Valpar also city government, was president of the Indiana Municipal League in 1964-65. The organization is now known as the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns. The Valparaiso City Council met Monday night to discuss the selection of a new mayor. The law stipulates it has 15 days to make the choice. —Horses Barbara Ellis, second; and Sandy Grimes, third. Other winners were ReiningPhil Jordan, first; Don Winings, second; and Earlem- Woods, third; Flag Race- Clark Jones, first; Barry Grimes, - cond, and Don Winings, third. The final event of the all-day affair was the egg race. Clark Jones whizzed around the track, egg in spoon, lapping the rest of the field. The Bainbridge Saddle Club puts on an enjoyable show. As one member, Mrs. Janet Oliver, Roachdale, said, “We’re a family group and we have a lot of fun.” A lot of fun was had by all Sunday.
