Hoosier war hero gets life
Mrs. Edith Frank of Clinton Falls spent the weekend with her daughter Mrs. Estella Hall of Indianapolis . They visited and had dinner with Mr. Frank in Ben Hur Home in Crawfordsville on Sunday. Mrs. Frank visited with Mr. Frank. His condition remains about the same. Mrs. Bertha Magill is a houseguest of her sister Mrs. Georgia Martin of Morton this week.
On Wednesday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Martin, Mrs. Bertha Magill, Mrs. Merle Livinghouse, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wysong, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Kawauer.Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rollings were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Emery Brattain. As they are all cousins, they meet together once a year, for a cousin reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Frazier
were Saturday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Henry of Montezuma. Mrs. Louis William called on Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Frazier on Monday evening. Mrs. Louis William and daughter Paula called on Mrs. Roy Porter on Thursday. Mrs. Charles Rector Sr. had as dinner guests on Wednesday, Miss Ida Wood, Mrs. Nelson
Wood, Mrs. Fay Thomas, Mrs. Raymond Wright. Mrs. \ern Sigler, Mrs. Ira Hutcheson, and Mrs. Ray Clodfelter. They all departed late, thanking Mrs. Rector for a most enjoyable day. Mr. Gerald Clodfelter returned home on Tuesday morning with his cattle from the Indiana State Fair. Mr. and Mrs. WillardClodfelter and Mr. and Mrs. Marion Cruse and son enjoyed supper at Colfax on Wednesday night. There was a Newgent family reunion at Robe Ann Park on Sunday. felter attended a birthday party for their granddaughter Lisa Jane Sutton, at the Home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. John Sutton. Lisa was 4 years old. Mr. and Mrs. Eneral Kaley spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Willard Clodfelter. Mrs. Kaley and Mrs. Clodfelter are sisters. Mrs. Olma Clodfelter called on Mrs. Dorothy Newgent. DA NANG, Vietnam (UPI)— A seven-man court martial today sentenced a U. S. Marine war hero from Indiana to life at hard labor for hanging, knifing and shooting to death five Vietnamese civilians in two incidents last May. Between the killings, Lance Cpl. Denzil R. Allen, 20, Lebanon, Ind., called artillery strikes onto his own besieged position to drive away Communist soldiers, saving his and several other Marine lives.
Allen grinned slightly as the court also gave him a dishonorable discharge, ordered him to forfeit all pay and allowances and reduced his rank to private. Six other Marines will be tried later this month on the same charges of killing the civilians last May 5 and 6. —Coatesville Mrs. Wendell Elrod is visiting for a week at the home farm. Joe is an electrical engineer and
located at Mansfield, Ohio. This big fellow comes back to Coatesville two or three times during a year, shakes hands with old friends, samples mother’s . ooking and then goes back to work. It was pleasing to see the numt)er of church members and other worshipful minded people who came to the United Methodist Church to greet and hear the message of the new minister. Mrs. Daisy Knight who lived next door to Mrs. Grace Gambold was heard to say this of her dead friend; “It is hard to give up a neighbor who has lived so near and been my close friend for forty-seven years.”
