--TV review Frankly, when it comes to television, the kids know too much and network executives are having to take this familiarity into account in their studies of why Saturday car. toons are falling from favor and what should replace them. New things are a stir in the world of children's television. “They’re rimply not watching the Saturday cartoons as much as they used to,” said Paul Klein, vice president in charge of audience measurement for NBC-TV. “The ratings are down two years in a row. “Pygmalion” and now its hardly worth scrawling on walls any more. “The same fate awaits our abrupt AngloSaxonisms,” Klein said. NBC has scheduled at least one new departure for Saturday morning viewing next season, “The Banana Split Adventure Hour” which premieres Sept. 7. This is an hour-long combination of live action and animation to ease the transition from Straight cartoons. Larry White, who supervises daytime programming for NBC, regards the program as “unique”

The show has a quartet of “animal” hosts called “The Banana Splits.” They are live performers costumed as a dog, a gorilla, a lion and a baby elephant. There will be a live action 10-minute serial of the cliff-hanging type once popular in the movies, an adventure cartoon serial “The Three Musketeers” and a space serial combining live action and animation. The way NBC sees it, the kids may not like all of this program but they'll have a hard time not liking some of it.
