Dear Editor: Lets digress from Vietnam and take a look at another very important bit of news, shall we? Now the Pope is urging all governments to ban contraceptives. If the Catholic people want to listen to this Pope that is their right; but to insist that all people everywhere including Protestants, Jews, etc. be denied this right by their government borders on tyranny to say the least! I am glad we live in a nation of approximately 240 different faiths and God has blessed it above any other. A good place for the Pope to start cleaning house is-Italy. A million votes for the communist party last year and the dope center of the world should be enough to keep him concerned at home. To me, this took a lot of gall to urge this bit of nonsense off on the whole world. I now view this ecumenical “come home brother” in a different light. Rae Rowings R. #1-Brazil, Ind.

Dear Sir: I would like to comment on the reaction in the community to some of the letters to the editor which have recently appeared in the “Banner.” There is, to begin, widespread speculation as to the identity of the mysterious Mr. C.A.R. Little is known about him beyond his authorship of a letter (This column, July 29) attacking Mr. Richard Dean for his exposure of TRAIN as a John Birch Society front organization. This bit of evidence superficially suggests that C.A.R., who denies membership in either TRAIN or the Birch Society, is thus a Birchsymp—i.e., the opposite of a Comsymp, Robert Welch’s term for one who is sympathetic to the Communists though not a member of the Party. But the Birchers, apparently, refuse to be taken in by this subterfuge; on the contrary, they and the real Birchsymps regard C.A.R.’s letter as a foul liberal trick designed to discredit the Birch

DEAR HELOISE: When we moved cross-coun-try recently we traveled in two cars, a daughter with each of us. I worried ahead of time as to how I could communicate with my husband who was going to drive in the lead car. Then I found the answer*. I bought two sets of little colored plastic flags (used at service stations, sales, etc. i. I made, a small hem in each, large enough to insert a "flagpole" the bottom part of a wooden coat hanger. Then we thought up a code for the different colors. Blue meant we needed gas. yellow that we were hungry, orange meant we were tired and to pull off the road for a while. Red meant stop immediately, car trouble. White was the O.K. flag and was used to acknowledge the other person's message. It really worked during the daytime and we avoided many unnecessary stops. Of course, at night the flags were no good and we blinked our lights for stops. One more thing . . . our daughters were the flag wavers, as the driver, of course, couldn't manage this and keep an eye on the road. Eva Rodgers

And if you can’t find plastic flags, you could just use solid color cloth scraps and put them on the stick with thumb tacks. We all salute you. Eva, lor your excellent travel plan. I’ll bet a sailor hat that you’ve a bit of “Navy" blood in you! lieloise

DEAR HELOISE: To dry throw rugs or bedspreads quickly, put the article over the line and place three or four coat hangers under them, crossways. This will spread them out so that the air gets in between the folds. If. E.

was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta social sorority. Wright was graduated from Northern Illinois University and is now associated with the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Chicago. The couple will be united in marriage October 6 at Gobin Memorial Methodist Church.

DEAR HELOISE: The chore of making beds is easier now that I've sewed large buttons on the underside of my mattress (about six inches from the corners) to fasten the elastic of the mattress pad to. I just give the elastic a twist, then over the button and it holds the pad nice and smooth so it doesn't wrinkle under the sheet. Dixie Birmingham

away. I save them until I have about one-half cup. Then I make chocolate or vanilla pudding and ripple the crumbs all through it like marble cake. It saves two ways it stretches the pudding and you don’t throw away t h o s e crumbs you originally paid for . . . The crumbs could also be used with graham cracker crumbs for pie crust. If they are from different kinds of cookies, it doesn’t matter one bit, they're even better. Joan Hamilton

LETTER OF THOUGHT DEAR HELOISE: For those who are generally discouraged, try my remedy . . . I drew a plan of my dream house on a large paper sack with a pencil and ruler. I let a half inch equal a foot and even drew in the furniture and used crayons to color it. Then whenever I feel that I can't stand things a minute longer, I get out my “blueprint" and just dream for a few minutes. You'll be surprised the way you'll feel after putting it away until the next slump And who knows, perhaps someday you'll be able to pull out that plan and really do something about it! Mrs. J. C. McKenzie

DEAR HELOISE: After using a liquid sweetner for about five years, I finally learned how NOT to get that drop of real sweet stuff all in one spot in my cereal. I now add sweetner to my milk lwho uses cream?), then add my cereal. Upside-down cereal I call it. Grace Parks

Show restraint

LONDON (UPI) — Gerald Moss, who “apparently has a grudge against those in the law,” has been forbidden to sue anyone without obtaining permission from a judge. In the past three years, Moss has sued or tried to sue two county court judges and the wife of one of them; a county police chief and his wife; two police inspectors and Prime Minister Harold Wilson.
