Fashion can’t make up its mind
By SHEILA WALSH ROME (UPI)— The hemUne hovered as the Italian fall, winter high fashion collections went into their fourth day today. There were lots of short skirts and lots of very long skirts. But the long skirts were tentativeall the major designers tried them, with about the enthusiasm of a reluctant swimmer dipping a toe into icy water. Mila Schon opened her collection with a floor-length white coat banded in layers of fluffy chenille. That coat was followed by an ankle-length overcoat in gray decked with silver buttons. But all the street clothes of the collection ended well above the knee. Fabriani also presented maxilength coats worn over short dresses. One of the most attractive was in beige wool, with narrow, peaked shoulders, high belt and full skirt. Fabiani was one of the first top Italian designers to wander off the straight and narrow silhouette this season. Instead of the basic sheath with variations of detail, he suggested waists firmly defined by belts and accentuated by blousing.
Typed? HOLLYWOOD OJPI)—Hans Gudegast. the German officer in “Rat Patrol," will play a Prussian military advisor in 20th Century-Pox’s “100 Rifles.”
Mila Schon opener collection Monday night with a series of “cold winter” outfits that ranged in color from white to gray. She followed up with a series of grape colored unlined, coat and sheath outfits with ingeniously fluted skirts. But the impression was that gray was the color that intrigued the designer. So far in the collections, Roman designers seem to be trying to live down their reputation for brilliant colors. Favored colors were all dark and the grays ran the spectrum from dove to elephant. Detail was another part of the Rome fashion picture. Fabiana teamed most of his suits and coats with soft leather leggings attached to medium - heeled pumps.
Mila Schon presented belts in belts because no one thought up convoluted silver that looked like the word to describe necklaces pieces of jewelry but rated as that hang from the waist. Meodowbrook Drive-In Theatre Tonight and Wed.
