DEAR HKI.OISK: In iinsuvr tu ttu' Isidy’s request fur ideas using drapery and upholstery scraps here goes: Make beautiful blouses anil dresses (which arc not only unusual but wear exceptionally well i aprons, head scarves, tablecloths, napkins. placemats and dresser scarves either self-fringed or trimmed with rickrack. Also put holders, kitchen appliance covers, throw pillows, shopping bags, patch quilts, doll clothes and lamp shade eovers. Make zippered purses, umbrella sheaths, chair pads, shoe bags, book eovers and zippered pencil bags fof school children, make-up and roller bags for the gals and tobacco punches dined in heavy plastic) for the fellas. All these things make appreciated gifts, ti' .1 only because they were made by you. but because of the unique color. pattern and durable fabric they are made from. Mrs. C. Zielinski Thanks, lion, for telling ns about tin- many things you made. Here are a few more good suggestions from our friends: They make wall hangings— framed or tmfranicd. Picture mats, vacuum bottle eovers, latiudi'N bags, glass cases, arm rests and facial tissue eases tor the fniise. Wastebaskets and pencil can eovers, etc., ete. So, gals, all of you that are fortunate enough to have these lovely scraps laying around— now that you know of the many things that can lie done w ith them—get busy and sew-iip-a-storni! Think how these would sell at bazaars! Ami to all you dolls that were kiicl enough to write and help utir friend, we sure are grateful. We love you! Ileloise DEAR HELOISE: One of your columns mentioned storing platters, wattle irons, etc., on the space above kitchen cabinets. Well, my mother and I ate

also plagued by this space, but we use it to a decorative advantage We display plants and various coloiful glass items up there. Just a few. evenly spaced plants brighten up our kitchen ••Nibs" DEAR HELOISE Butter is messy when soil anti slides off its little dish. So it you want soft butter with no mess, just use the cover or lid of your butte! dish instead of the dish itself. Of course, your cover must be flat on top so it will set steady when turned upside down. It’s deeper than the bottom so there’s no mess at. all. Mrs. A T LETTER OF THOUGHT DEAR HELOISE: You know managing a home is a BIG business! The homemaker is really the manager in charge of purchasing And like any other business. sh»must never stop learning, experimenting and seeking new ideas. If a homemaker really works at it. it can be just as successful as a thriving business don’t you agree? Homemaker I sure do, pal. Ileloise DEAR HELOISE: Like all small children, my little ones have trouble putting the towel back on the bar in the bathroom. 1 bought anothei towel bar and had my husband attach it to the wall two feet from the floor. UNDER the regular one. So there would be no overlap, he moved the tegular bar up about a foot. We use the higher bar and the children seem to enjoy, their own mini-towel rack. Dorothy Crain DEAR HELOISE: A pair of old scissors is so handy to have around. 1 use mine to clip beet and carrot tops, remove cuctim* Continued on Page 3
