In Frankfurt, leftist student leader Daniel Cohn-Bendit, the French-born German who led French students in the strikes that started a social revolution in France, led a march of 600 students to a teach-in to protest the proposed laws. Thousands of students and workers had announced plans for mass demonstrations throughout the nation to protest the laws, but student strikes failed to materialize in most of West Germany’s cities. The ambassadors of the United States, Britain and France jointly called on Foreign Minister Willy Brandt at noon to hand him identical notes expressing agreement to abolition of their last occupation rights. These included the right to mail censorship and wire tapping.

Panic Button Is For Real GLACIER NATIONAL Park, B.C. (UPD — When Mike Pittaway presses the button, his co-workers run for their lives. Pittaway of Revelstoke, B.C., is an avalanche watcher in western Canada’s Glacier National Park above Montana. He is one of six trained observers working with the National Research Council of Canada in testing a system designed to get road-clearing crews out of the way of any sudden snow avalanches. The danger to road crews is real. Two men were killed in 1965 by an avalanche at Rogers Pass, B.C. Pittaway said there is a maximum period of three minutes from the time an avalanche starts until it reaches the highway. Road crews have that time to abandon their slowmoving "cat” or grader and run out of the avalanche path.
