DEAR HELOISE: We coffee drinkers have two problems! If we drink all the coffee we want, we sometimes develop a case of coffee nerves. On the other hand, while the decaffeinated kind takes care of the nerves, it just doesn’t seem to provide the flavor and aroma I like. By the time we get to the bottom of the pot, the coffee is mighty strong and sometimes bitter, but it’s too unhandy to brew just one cup at a time. So ... I experimented. I mixed a pound of mv regular brand with a pound of decaffeinated coffee, and brewed this mixture using the regular measurements. The result had all the flavor and aroma of regular coffee without the usual after-effects. Then I poured the contents of the pot into a vacuum bottle with a tight seal and had myself a cup of coffee with that "just brewed” flavor, as long as the supply lasted. I place a pipe cleaner in "the pleats" between the buckram and material of the inside hems everyplace it’s drooping! Betty * * * DEAR HELOISE: To get my children—and I have four with the oldest in kindergarten—to eat raw carrots without leaving half of one laying around, I cut them into little square carrot "candies.” Mrs. R. Milks * * * DEAR HELOISE: If you do weeding that nearly breaks your back stooping over, tiy my idea: Just cut the bottom out of two heavy plastic bags and pull one up over each leg of your slacks, keeping them in place with strong rubber bands or old shoe strings. Then you can scoot along on your knees without getting your slacks damp or dirty or wearing them out. Violet Bierworth

DEAR HELOISE: I always seem to have a lot of guests with small babies. I’ve noticed that when the mother changes the baby, she either does it on the couch, the rug or on the bed. These places absorb the moisture from a wet diaper and sometimes it leaves an odor. Well, since I have a small baby myself, I purchased a waterproof lap pad that I keep in my diaper bag to use when changing her in someone else’s home. Thought other mothers might like to use my idea.
