DEAR HELOISE: Like most women, I carry change in my billfold. So I use the cloth coin purse to carry an extra stocking or even a pair of stockings the same shade I’m wearing that day. In this way, I’m always prepared for any emergency, be it snag or run. Great for working gals. Mrs. M. L. * * * DEAR HELOISE: We have a travel trailer and there’s not a convenient place in the small bathroom to put a toilet tissue holder. So I got the idea of using a plumber’s helper. I painted the handle to match the room. Then put the new rolls of paper on first— right in their wrappers. At the top I placed an open roll where it is handy. Makes a useful decoration as well as a conversation piece, too! Ruth Ferry * * * Ruth, you’re an honest to goodness angel for sending us this clever hint. Just think of the thousands of trailer owners and home owners with tiny half-baths, etc., who have been at their wits end to find a place for those rolls. We all send you a big hug for this whopper. Heloise * * * DEAR HELOISE: While in the hospital recently, I noticed that an elderly woman in a high-back wheel chair was unable to keep her pillow in place behind her. The nurse had to replace it so often that I finally suggested to her that one side of the pillowcase be put over the back of the chair. This way the pillow stays put instead of constantly falling to the floor. Of course, a pillowcase may not fit over the back of some wheel chairs but it sure did on this one. Stella Staley * * * DEAR HELOISE: I love to save recipes, complete with full page illustrations which I clip from magazines and newspapers. The one problem with this is, they always clutter up the drawer and I can never find anything I want when I need it. To solve this problem I converted a deep kitchen drawer into a recipe filing cabinet. I trimmed manila folders down to fit the drawer and added clear plastic index tabs. As well as the usual headings, I also included “Party and Holiday”, "World Cookery” and “Miscellaneous Cook Books”. The latter took care of the many little booklets

and pamphlets one collects. Now I really feel organized! Bettie Jordan * + * DEAR HELOISE: I do a lot of crocheting and usually have a lot of different colors of tnread left, but not enough of any one color to make large articles. Instead of throwing the thread away, I buy round asbestos dish pads at the dime store and crochet covers in a rosette design. They make such pretty little hang-ups for the kitchen wall and are so nice to give away as little gifts. Chelsea Moreland
"Ringing Bell" a constant reminder The “Ringing Bell” will be a constant reminder this month to join the Mental Health Association. Mrs. Russell Pierce, Association membership chairman, said, “A 300 pound bell is the symbol of the Mental Health Association, the voluntary citizens’ organization concerned exclusively with the fight against men. tal illness and helping the mentally 111. The Mental Health Bell was cast from shackles, iron chains, steel cages and other restraints which were barbaric relics actually used in the not too distant past when mentally ill children and adults were treated as criminals or animals and were hidden away from a society which rejected them as hopelessly insane. Today seven out of ten mentally ill patients are released from a hospital within a few months often a few weeks, when given prompt and modern mental health research. “All of us have many communiity responsibilities, “Mrs. Pierce said. “But I feel there are more than enough people in Putnam County who want to join our Association. Mental illness is the nation’s most pressing and complex health problem and there are more people hospitalized with mental illness at any one time than with all other diseases combined. That great improvements can be made has already been demonstrated because of new treatment methods developed through mental health research. “We have made real progress but we have a long way to go. We can’t afford to slow down now in the fight against mental illness and help for the mental, ly ill.”

LETTER OF LAUGHTER DEAR HELOISE: After celebrating our 48th wedding anniversary, a friend asked how we had managed to keep it going so long. So I told him it had been very easy because of an understanding before marriage. We had agreed that my wife would make all the small decisions and that I would make nil the big ones . . . and up to today there had never been any big decisions to make. Wise Old Charley
DEAR HELOISE: I recently found that by standing my whole stuffed bell peppers in a tube pan It eliminates not having enough height for the peppers and also keeps them from falling over. I use a piece of foil for the cover. Mrs. W. F. Howard * * * DEAR HELOISE: I use a skirt hanger to store iny long, willowy, knee length boots on. Neat idea eh? Helen Carver
