BROTHERLY (G)LOVE —Baseball always has had the brother act from early days to the present. Top group among the actives today are the Alou brothers. Other combos are shown. Twice this year the Niekros, pitchers, have op-
posed each other on the mound and each has won a game. The Delahanty clan tops baseball’s brother list, five brothers playing in majors at the turn of the century. Another group was O’Neills, and four of them made it to big time.
Dogers loose again in 16 -inning tilt by 3 -2 score
National League Roundup By United Press International The light-hitting Dodgers, who went 17 innings to defeat the Atlanta Braves last Thursday night, toiled for 16 more innings Sunday and ended up losing 3-2 this time as rookie Johnny Bench slammed a run-scoring double in the 16th. Sunday’s marathon made it 51 Innings of work in four days for the Dodgers during which time their batters totalled only eight runs and their pitching staff surrendered just nine. First Off Purdin Bench’s hit came with two out off reliever John Purdin and scored Lee May, who had reached base after hitting into a force out. It was the first run off Purdin this year in five relief performances. By DARRELL MACK HOUSTON (UPI) — Roberto De Vicenzo returned home to Buenos Aires today, having mastered the U.S. golf courses and, finally, its scoring system. De Vicenzo, who jested last week that he would need an accountant and a lawyer to win in this country, found out Sunday all he needed was a true driver and a steady putter. De Vicenzo won the $100,000 Houston Champions International Golf Tournament Sunday with a final round 68 for a 10under.par 274. His driving put him on 16 greens in regulation and his steady hands tapped in a twofoot putt on No. 18 to break a tie with Lee Trevino, whc finished one stroke back at 275. Tied Record De Vicenzo won the $20,000 first prize with a final round of 68, three under par, to go with rounds of 67, 68 and 71 for 10under 274. This tied the tournament record set last year by Frank Beard. De Vicenzo, who lost a chance for a playoff championship in the Masters because of a scorekeeping error, checked his card carefully and even had PGA tournament director Jack Tuthill go over it before he signed it. “Before I sign, I call m> lawyer,” De Vicenzo jested later. Jay Hebert, although back ir the money, won a Mercury Cougar automobile with a hole-in-one on the 180-yard 16th hole. Hebert used a three iron for the sixth hole-in-one of his tournament career and the first ir champions history. Dan Sikes, the third round leader, dropped out of contention with a bogey on six and a double bogey on eight, finishing third at 276 after a final round of two-over 73. Stocking up NEW YORK (UPI)-The National Basketball Association stocks its new Milwaukee and Phoenix franchises today with 18 players from the 12 established clubs. Stocking procedures allow each club to protect seven players. Five other players will be placed on the draft roster by each team. After the first pick, the existing teams will recall one player from the stockpile and permit the expansion frachises to make two more selections. Phoenix won the coin toss and picks first. Milwaukee gets the lext two choices.
LOUISVILLE, Ky., (UPI)Dancer’s Image, who came from last place to win the Kentucky Derby Saturday with a rail hugging stretch run, quietly rested in his stall at Churchill Downs today, awaiting transfer to Maryland for the $150,000 Preakness Stakes on May 18. There was nothing wrong with the colt who had a swollen ankle just prior to the first of the triple crown classics but who never took a lame or sore step while he was in Kentucky, according to his trainer. The trainer, Lou Calavaris, plans to fly the rugged son of Native Dancer to Baltimore Wednesday where at least a half dozen horses who passed up the Kentucky Derby will be on hand to challenge him in the Preakness. Losers On Hand And several of the 3-year-olds D a n c e r’s Image soundly trounced in the 94th Kentucky Derby also will be on hand. Calumet Farm’s Forward Pass, the Derby favorite who was second, and third place Francie’s Hat from the Saddle Rock Farm will be at Pimlico. Later in the week decisions will be reached on the Preakness status of T.V. Commercial who was fourth, fifth place Kentucky Sherry who set the fastest early pace in derby history by running the first six furlongs in 1:09 4-5,and Captain’s Gig. Ready to challenge the Kentucky Derby winner at Pimlico will be Poleaxe, speedy winner of the Will Rogers Stakes; Go Marching, undefeated in four races this year; Clever Foot, a multiple stakes winner in the east this season; Wise Exchange, the Flamingo Stakes winner; What A Pleasure, Sir Beau, and Nodouble. Back To Back Wins Dancer’s Image’s victory gave jockey Bobby Ussery back-to-back Derby triumphs but it was the first winner for
owner Peter Fuller and the trainer in their first try. Ussery let Dancer's Image settle down after the colt was bumped at the start and trailed the field for half a mile.
The veteran rider from Vian, Okla. then took Dancer’s Image between horses and at the start of the stretch cut over to the rail. Dancer’s Image was second

choice and paid $9.20, $4.40 and $4.00. Forward Pass paid 4.20 and 3.20 and Francie’s Hat paid $6.40. D a n c e r's Image earned $122,600 for Fuller in winning his third straight $100,000 race. Previously he won the Covernor’s Gold Cup at Bowie and the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct. He has earned a total of $359,236.
PITTSBURGH (UPI) - The American Basketball Association is here to stay. This was the opinion of coaches Vince Cazzetta of Pittsburgh and Babe McCarthy of New Orleans. “Alex Hannum and Bill Sharman have given our league such prestige that I don’t see how it can do anything but succeed,” Cazzetta said. Hannum and Sharman signed contracts last week to coach Oakland and Los Angeles in the ABA. Both formerly coached in the National Basketball Association. Future Looks Good McCarthy said he felt the future of the ABA looked very good. He said Pittsburgh in Connie Hawkins had “one of the greatest” basketball players in the country. He also lauded Charlie Williams, Pittsburgh’s smooth guard. Williams scored 35 points and Hawkins 20 to lead Pittsburgh to a 122-113 victory over New Orleans Saturday night for the first championship of the ABA. Williams scored 21 of his points in the first half as the Pipers moved to a 67-55 lead at intermission. The Pipers led 102-86 after three periods. Game Plan Cazzetta said that was his game plan. “We tried to get so far ahead of New Orleans that they couldn’t catch up,” he said. “We played near perfect ball for the first three periods but then we began to tire.”
New Orleans took advantage of the Piper lapse to pull within five points, 113-108, with four minutes remaining. But Doug Moe, New Orleans’ leading scorer with 28 points, got involved in an argument with referee Andy Hershock over a call and was banished. Moe’s loss rattled the Buccaneers and Art Heyman took advantage of the break to score two quick layups to ice the win for Pittsburgh.

resumes The secret-shrouded Davis Cup series between Sweden and Rhodesia, not quite as anony. mous as its organizers had hoped, resumed with the doubles match today after an opening-day split. The best-of-five series originally was scheduled to start Friday at Baastad, Sweden, but a violent anti-Rhodesian demonstration in the summer resort town forced cancellation of those plans. Both teams were secretly spirited away and Sunday the Swedish Lawn Tennis Association released only the bare results of the opening two singles matches. It refused to disclose either the location of the contests or when they had been played. However, it was reliably reported the series is being contested on a privat court at the Bandol Tennis Club on the French Riviera.

the day with De Vicenzo three strokes back, shot a 72 for a 278 and fourth place. Tommy Aaron, De Vicenzo’s errant scorekeeper in the Masters, and Miller Barber finished in a tie fifth at 279. A1 Geiberger, who kept score here for De Vicenzo, was bunche at 280 with defending champion Frank Beard and Dale Douglass. De Vicenzo and Trevino both said the key to the tournament was De Vincenzo putting out on No. 18 De Vicenzo ran a 35-foot putt for a birdie by the cup two feet. Then he made the two-footer for a par to put all the pressure on Trevino, who needed a fourfoot putt for his par. He missed it three inches to the right.
